I started on Day 17 and liked it so much I am starting on Day 1. This theory and practice works great for me. Best language learning advice ever: "There are no subtitles in life, and people won't make the effort to speak slowly"

Colonel, that was the sentence which resonated with me also. Like I recently heard from another good KZbin French speaker, while using subtitles (in French, not English), I still read more than I listened. Now, a year later, I am good at reading French and knowing roughly what it means, but still not so good at hearing French at a regular pace and knowing what they are saying. I have decided no more subtitles, in Eng or Fr.

@@anthonys2021-BD This is the problem with subtitles, we tend to rely on them way too much. 🫶✨

Thanks a lot Lorraine! I personally think it's a great way to boost your French. Most students struggle with understanding spoken French because they don't practice, or they don't know how to truly listen. This challenge helps you work on your listening skills every day. These daily practices are full of useful vocabulary for navigating daily life in France with confidence, they're challenging and they help you build consistency. And consistency is key to learning a language! Here's to more challenges in 2025! 🥂

Wow! This is just what I need. I am at the B1/B2 level in grammar, however I have noticed that my oral comprehension is at a much more basic level. This method works. The first time I listened I understood only from a few words that the story takes place in a shoe store, the kind of shoes he wanted to buy and the size. Other than that I was clueless, BUT by the time I was on the tenth time of listening I had filled in most of the gaps. Then I wrote down the phrases that I wanted to memorize. This exercise, however, is not for beginners. It is perfect for intermediate learners. Reminds me of the way I practice the piano. Repeat, repeat, repeat, phrase by phrase. Merci Lexie !
@LearnFrenchwithLexieАй бұрын
Thanks Catie, so happy to hear that you're finding the challenge useful! 😄 For many students, oral comprehension is often at a much more basic level, because we were never taught how to properly listen. There's a BIG difference between hearing and really listening. Listening takes concentration and practice: it's a skill, just like speaking or writing! That's why I created the Listening Challenge: it's all about training your ears to listen better, understand real conversations and feel more confident. It shows you that if you really listen, you can understand a lot more than you thought. Then you'll get used to the rhythm and sounds of spoken French... And eventually, you'll understand more and more. The challenge is also beneficial for beginners. Some even do it, it's more difficult for them, and the exercise takes longer, but every effort they put in today will make a huge difference tomorrow. Have a wonderful Sunday x

Finished day 1! really fast for beginner😂 Should I repeat the same video until I can hear all clearly or should I just go with the flow, like focus on finishing the daily task?
@LearnFrenchwithLexieАй бұрын
Have you done all the steps? How many times did you listen to understand the context and topic? How many times did you listen to write as many words and phrases as possible?
@ssunnyym9950Ай бұрын
@LearnFrenchwithLexie I watched this video one time doing all the steps, but I couldn't understood at all until saw the last part. Actually I just went through very basics french like alphabets, numbers, days etc. and very basic grammers like forms of the verbs, plurals etc. . Is it too early for me to start this challenge?
@LearnFrenchwithLexieАй бұрын
@@ssunnyym9950 It's never too early! What I would recommend, for tomorrow. Don't rush, and don't hesitate to repeat the chapters! For “Context and Topic”, listen as many times as you can to try and understand! Even if the video only plays the dialogue 3 times, feel free to go over this chapter again and again, until you grasp a few key words that give you a little idea of where/what/who. To “fill in the gaps”, listen as many times as you canas well - 20 to 30 times if necessary - the more you do, the clearer it will be! Even if you only manage to write 5 words on the second day, it's still better than nothing! Then, for listening and reading, try to do it 6 to 10 times. So repeat the chapter, at least twice! Focusing on completing the daily task, ticking it off, will get you nowhere. Do the steps as best you can, and repeat them if necessary! Your efforts today will make your work much easier in the future. Have a wonderful day! 🫶✨

Agreed. But after traveling to various regions in France, especially smaller towns where English was not spoken as well, I found his pace a reality. And I found that many just don't want to slow down or repeat; they aren't mean about it, it is just that in a good boulangerie, with a line that is perhaps 6-persons deep, they just don't have time to coddle my broken French or repeat things 3 times slowly. Sigh... So we gotta hear it fast!
