As a model builder, it does my heart good to this work still being done. Certainly CGI has its place, but nothing beats a physical modeler. You folks do beautiful work. 👍👍👍👍
@TinkerTailorSoldier13 жыл бұрын
Nothing? I don’t know about that. While model building may keep up with the times (doesn’t look outdated later)… CGI definitely offers some visuals that models and practical effects would not be a proper substitute for. I think the direction and style of the director also dictates what would be a good fit for the movie.
@cchavezjr73 жыл бұрын
Physical models and Matte Paintings. They can make a scene have warmth that CGI still hasn't been able to.
@GillesvanZeebroeck3 жыл бұрын
Movies made entirely out of CGI feel cold. The sizing of objects is often wrong, look at transformer movies, where in one scene the human fits in the hand, the next scene that same human is half the size of the robot??? The colours are off and often too bright, the depth perception is off, the granularity is off and I could go on and on. You are right and CGI has it’s place but it should be limited to things like back drops, vista’s, etc. Don’t (s)tell a story through a computer…
@VideoCesar073 жыл бұрын
I am just a amateur hobby builder and seeing this stuff inspires me to keep building. I agree that CGI has allowed scenes that might've been impossible before but frankly it is too overused in places where a miniature or bigature would do just as well, if not even better. A good example of a good blend of physical models and CGI was Netflix Dark Crystal Age of Resistance. They used puppets, sets, props, etc and CGI was used to smooth out and refine certain details. I feel for the SFX artists who poured their heart and soul into the 2011 The Thing cause they were told it would be mostly practical effects with CGI for only certain scenes but during editing they saturated the movie with so much CGI you could not appreciate their efforts.
@TinkerTailorSoldier13 жыл бұрын
@@GillesvanZeebroeck Did the movie Avatar feel cold? What about Star Trek? Interstellar? Even when models are used, CGI is used to bring the live action together.

Miniatures in Wes Anderson films are done in such a way you can't tell they're ''real'' but you know they're not cgi. sort of inbetween state that suits his aesthetic perfectly. Thank God for filmmakers like him keeping these artists in work.

@brobinson86146 күн бұрын
Sadly when Peter Jackson made a 3D movie, (the Hobbit I think) the duel cameras lenses couldn't get close enough together, as need to be the same distance apart as our eyes, but when scaling down to the ratio of the model the lenses need to come closer together by that same ratio too. But they couldn't physically do it. So the 3D footage they filmed gave away that models were tiny. PJ decided to go to CGI and that caused a major shift away from model making in the entire film industry. Even though most films still aren't 3D. I personally think with the way small lens technology has improved in recent years, that means those smaller lenses could get much closer together for scale for filming models in 3D. So miniature models could become a reality again.

my favourite thing about these miniatures is that theyre allowed to look like miniatures, they dont have to be hyperrealistic but are allowed to have that slightly cartoonish quality to them that makes it all the more perfect.

CGI has its place but has been overused and directors and producers that have an artistic vision can get the best out of both due to their creativity. Dune recently used both CGI and practical effects. I think that there has to be a move towards making films with a lower budget so that they then do not have as much pressure at the box office and it means more profit and then more films get made.
