Really wish Rockstar would add more roleplay elements to GTA, or just exploration things, the little things that GTA was always good for that added longevity and fooling around. The Hatters fooling around on the boat and with the firetrucks is exactly what I mean. What other game could you do both in? Rockstar started with good intentions, but ever since that controversy over at Rockstar where one of the lead guys was let go, the game seems to have devolved into a senseless killing shitshow. They keep pretending to be a much worse, and much more imbalanced Battlefield. They're killing their own game. People are absolutely tired of all the constant horseshit pvp in free roam. Being able to kill other players was supposed to be a possibility but not the be-all-end-all goal of free roam... look how that's changed. I remember GTA 4 online free roam... yea there was some pvp but most of the time people just chilled and did some incredible stuff when everyone in a lobby didn't shoot on sight. The playerbase was much more mature back then, GTA 5 seems to have attracted alot of angry little shits.

GTA 4 had freeroam? On what platform exactly? PC got absolute jackshit, no character customization, awful matchmaking.

On all platforms, I was playing on the PS3 at the time. The online portion of the game was accessed through the cell phone menu. From there you could join various game modes, including cops and robbers which was AMAZING fun, but there was also the Free Run option, which put you into beautiful Liberty City with everyone else. You got to pick from various premade character skins, and then some minor customization of headwear, shirt and pants. It wasn't extensive but it was good enough, especially at the time. The racing was also infinitely better, as the vehicle physics were actually pretty amazing. Proper oversteer, realistic understeer and braking distances, and the suspension, oh my the suspension. Hard to believe when you play GTA5, but even the motorcycles behaved realistically. Racing lines actually meant something if you wanted to compete online, and creating racing lines throughout a busy New York style city... incredible.
