For years I had seen all of the reports of Axl Rose being an asshole, but my family's old dietician who used to have a clinic in Chicago in the 90's once had him come in to get checked up. He had no idea who he was until he heard a girl screaming in the lobby. Later that day, something happened with GNR's hotel and my dietician offered to house Axl. He told me that he was legitimately the nicest houseguest he had ever had, played the piano for them, was super sweet to the doctors wife and kids, and apparently still occasionally stops by the bar that the doctors son owns. It's been a while since I had this story told to me, so hopefully I didn't get too many details wrong, but I just always found that story interesting considering how Axl is always talked about.

It's interesting how regional a lot of rock aesthetics and what is considered cool are. Being from the northeast, a lot of what I guess would either be Red State Rock Festival or Inland Empire fashion came off as incredibly uncool. I was a big Avenged Sevenfold fan until my friend made the comment that "Their music just sounds like the soundtrack to a 10 year old daydreaming about being in a motorcycle chase" and I couldn't unhear that. To your point about Slayer, while they're Latino, there are tons of white Cubans and Chileans. Southern cone countries have a lot of people with basically 100% European ancestry. I think like 65% of Cubans identify as white (although "White" in the Latin American context is a bit more socio-cultural than it is in America and a lot of people who identify as white have some mixed ancestry). Countries like Brazil and Mexico have much higher rates of mixed ancestry. I studied in Buenos Aires and the vast majority of non-immigrants had mostly Italian(Genoese in particular, so even whiter looking than Italian-Americans) heritage. IDK any specifics about Slayer, but a lot of times American conceptions of race don't map neatly onto Latin America,

It's true what you say about song writing. Even look at the 3 greats of the 70's-Sabbath, Zeppelin and Purple. They all got their big breaks from simpler, catchy, radio friendly hits. Paranoid Whole lotta love Smoke on the water. Don't get me wrong, I am heavily into all their intricate, complex songs. I actually dig those more. But without a mix of simpler, catchier songs, they wouldn't be as successful.

It's funny that Zach from rage against the machine the man went from fighting the man to fighting for the man.

Being anti Republican doesn't mean he fights for the man lol. He is against Democrats and Republicans and has been consistent in his opposition to both. Trump and other conservatives may position himself as being "against the machine" but being a hypercapitalist elite is the definition of the man/the status quo.

I’m going to assume you are somebody who assumes that being pro socialism means you are contradicting yourself by making money. If so, proving you don’t know what socialism is or isn’t. Business and the profit motive are separate to capitalism. Socialists don’t say that people can’t make money, they just say that the people who should make the money are the people actually producing the wealth and doing the work, not just the jackass who had the idea and the initial investment who gets to run his business like a little dictator.

Call me a Deft-ones punisher all you want, but Chino should be higher. His voice is one of a kind, and he's one of the few vocalists where it's totally fine and acceptable to rip him off. You won't sound like him at all, but your vocals will most likely get better.

It would be really cool to hear your opinion on Atreyu, and how the drummer Brandon is also the frontman and singer. Hella underrated.
