Actually, Terrence (or Terry) went on to live Finn's dream life. He became a dad and had 2 kids. Appearently he had his own little re-union with Vinnie Paul of Pantera back in 2010. By the looks of it he's doing fine, he aged pretty well and his singing actually improved since then.

Agreed. I'm surprised he's so generous to Hollow when Cemetery Gates is so much heavier and more technical. I'm also surprised he dissed on The Sleep, which is an underrated avant-garde song with a jaw-dropping guitar solo. Overall, I agree with his album rankings though.

@@concernedliberal4453 I love the whole album. It’s the only one in their discography that I enjoy all the way through. Each song has its own character and doesn’t sound like anything else. The Sleep does indeed have a great solo! Phil has gone on record saying it’s his favorite. CFH is a perfect blend of some of their favorite early influences. You can hear Judas Priest, Metallica, Van Halen and ZZ Top all woven into it. Phil’s voice was also at its peak in terms of versatility. Btw… No one can deny that “Hollow” is bone crushingly heavy at the end!

At the time, it was kinda meh, but 20 years later, it shines. It was Pantera locked into what they did best. It was the first of the "real" Pantera records to not be radically heavier and different than the last. They didn't break new ground at all, but they didn't need to. Had they kept going, it would have been the last album before a string of 1 or 2 skippable records. Side note: throes of rejection is meh, but... The solo is the best Dimebag solo. Hands down. Saw em 5 times. Miss em... But I'm torn on the Zakk/Charlie tour. Especially given the current condition of Phil's vocal chords.

Trendkill is the pinnacle of Pantera for me also. I saw them on Vulgar, Driven, and Trendkill tours, and the live show was an improvement each time, and by Trendkill they were destroying it. Also, think that #1 on Billboard was top 200, so not quite the same, but still a huge accomplishment for a heavy band in the '90s.

Suicide Note 2 still puts goosebumps on my arms. The opening track of FBD is…it’s perfect. I objectively rank the albums the same. Personally, subjectively, I go RTS, CFH, TGSTK, VDOP, FBD. FBD vs VDOP is close. Listen to the first four tracks on each. But VDOP is so iconic it borders absurd and has to be #1. Oddly enough, I’ve probably listened to TGSTK the most (living in NOLA, Floods get a lot of spins). While it isn’t their best, it’s certainly their heaviest. That said, there are a couple of slower songs too that still throat punch the listener. In a weird tonal, mood, atmospheric way, it might be the most consistent album.

When the 1st song started playing and it opened with that short guitar riff and blasted into the utter hardcore fast song that it is, he and I immediately looked at each other and burst into laughter. So happy someone finally mentioned how damn heavy and amazing ''slaughtered'' is. I remember being 9 years old digging through my older brothers CD collection just to listen to that album and slaughtered in particular. Always thought I just consider it so good because of nostalgia. love your second account deep dives! Best regards from Germany

The first four records are essential to understand their journey , also the developping musical options . The thing you like only hardcore metal and skip a song once its more melodic or more deeper doesn't mean that suck .

Dropping the rhythm guitars in the solo is Dime repping early Van Halen. The early VH records which he and Vinnie were heavily influenced by had Eddie panned hard left and the bass on the right with Ed (pretty much) doing everything without overdubs.

For me both Cowboys & Vulgar Display are no-skip albums. Also speaking of no-skip albums for me The Jester Race/Whoracle/Colony/Clayman by In Flames fit the bill perfectly, along with Rust in Peace by Megadeth, ...'Justice by Metallica, Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park, and Holographic Universe by Scar Symmetry to name a few.

I used to love Jester Race and Colony etc when I was 16 but nowadays I can't really listen to those albums, I don't think In Flames held up all that well with time compared with other bands from that same time. Dark Tranquillity, Sentenced, Amorphis, At The Gates all aged much better I think. The first Haunted album as well is stupidly good.

It’s weird because there are distinct phases. The pre-CFH, peak, and post FBD. It took me a long time to appreciate Great Southern Trendkill but I loved Reinventing the Steel right off the shelf. Great video! Also worth mentioning- Trendkill was them at their most messed up. IIRR, Phil didn’t even leave New Orleans to record vocals because he was so strung out and ashamed. Reinventing the Steel was supposed to be them with all of their issues worked out which worked until it didn’t.

Right away I'm intrigued and want to hear more about your love for 311. They were one of the first bands I got into when I started looking for music outside of my parents' collections. I'm not very familiar with their more recent output, but I still occasionally listen to Music, S/T, and Transistor to this day. I remember their early albums as positive, fun, and interesting musically. They are a band who I think successfully managed to blend genres without veering into parody or cheese. They don't get a lot of love these days, though!

FBD has my favorite sound of all their records, and Becoming, 5 Minutes Alone, and Strength Beyond Strength are my favorite Pantera songs. I politely disagree, and it’s probably because I really got into them when Far beyond driven came out. However, I first got into them via their home videos haha. Anyway, I love cowboys and vulgar but I have really come to appreciate reinventing the steel. Tracks like ‘it makes them disappear,’ ‘I’ll cast a shadow,’ and ‘yesterday don’t mean shit’ are so under rated.
