Siem Reap looks to be an ideal location for retirees. Thanks for a great report.

It's a great place to live and retire. It's a laid back place, lots of things to do and enjoy. I really enjoy it there

The food there looks delicious. I wish we had healthy selections like that here in my small town in Alabama, USA. One day, I hope to retire in a place where I do not need a car and can easily walk to coffee shops, markets, bakeries, and eateries every day.

I lived in a small town in Canada and had the same issue. Most of the food available to me wasn't healty and if it was, the prices were way more than I could spend. That is one of the main reasons I wanted to come to SE Asia and Siem Reap in particular satisfied all of my needs and continues to. I absolutley love it here. I hope you are able to find a place like this for yourself someday. It makes a huge diifference.

I've eaten there every night since arriving last week. There are over a dozen stalls serving different dishes. All are good but I prefer some over others. The calm atmosphere here is probably the best. I haven't had any stress since arriving and I am loving it here.

Looks great there mate. It truly feels like another place once you emerge at night and walk down the river with all the lights and such! Really glad to see you're enjoying it!
@FrugalWanderer10 ай бұрын
It really does feel like completely different places. I've wandered it during the day and the section that I eat at is just a bare sidewalk until after 3pm. Then you start to see everything start to come together. Once the lights come on it no longer resembles anything I'm used to. I'm digging it here completely.

I'm from Fredericton New Brunswick, which is just east of Maine. I think I'm an hour drive from the border. Well, I was when I was in Canada. Haha. I'm glad you are enjoying my content. I hope the winter hasn't been too harsh on you and that spring shows up sooner than later. February was always the longest and worst month in the winter for me. I'm glad I'm enjoying it here instead. I'm surprised it's mostly non-natives in the background! Looks like a cool place to be.

The area that I have been eating at is very tourist oriented. Later in the evening it's full of tourists, but when I go earlier, just after they open, the majority of the folks seem to be locals grabbing a meal before going to work. It's a great mic of people here and very comfortable.

Not flickering much 👍.

Looks pretty chill. Always wanted to visit Angkor Wat, so I'm very jealous of that. That's definitely on the old bucket list for sure, together with Hoi An in Vietnam and countless places and islands in Thailand (James Bond island and Maya Bay, etc ...) to name a very few. I always felt a real affinity to that part of the world but sadly I've never been anywhere near it.
@FrugalWanderer10 ай бұрын
I have had the same affinity for it since I was a kid and I'm so very thankful that I not only took the chance to come out here, but that I had the ability to do so. I haven't visited Angkor Wat yet, but I should be going tomorrow. If I don't get to it this trip, I will make sure to do so when I come back, and I'm definitely coming back. Siem Reap has been one of the best places I've ever visited. It has been a breath of fresh air for me and has motivated me more than I have been in ages. I'm so happy that I chose to come here.

I'm jealous ! -- Been searching for over a year for my cheap comfortable but frugal retirement destination - and your in it !!! -- Watch everything I can about SR. -- Found an expat whos been there 6 or 7 years & loves the place ! He contends quite a comfortable life for about $800/mo. with some frugal choices. Also some really cheap rent can be had like for $50/mo. for just a room. > If you rent very long term & fix it to suit you - much can be saved and it's a win win ? You can stay put with their fantastic visa laws over 55 !!! No visa runs or requirements to meet either. --- It's my kind of place -&- your seeing the food selections available there with the prices . Bangkok is a cheap 1 hour flight away too for some fun or quality medical services. ❤ 🙏
@FrugalWanderer10 ай бұрын
Frank, you have nailed all of the points that I have enjoyed here for sure. I did go and look at some apartments the other day and for the $200-$250 range, the quality was outstanding. I have been looking for the spot that has a balance of inexpensive and comfortable. Siem Reap has ticked all of my boxes. Add in the great visa options and I am pretty much sold. I only booked 10 days for this trip and I am leaving tomorrow. I am definitely coming back and the next time I make it permanent. Haha

@@FrugalWanderer-- I'm happy for you ! -- It's not perfect - no place ever is. HOWEVER - it certainly will suit me as the few tradeoffs seem well worth it ? -- PP the capital I hear is like 30% more expensive. Much too chaotic cluttered crowded and polluted air for my liking. Maybe just a visit but not permanent. --?-- That bus ride from Bangkok would do me in / 12 hours ? I'd have to fly. A 6 hour bus ride w/ac to PP would be much easier for me to handle. -- All the best - hope you get back there Sean and settled somewhere to your liking ! 🙏
@FrugalWanderer10 ай бұрын
@@frankkluz9787 the bus here from Bangkok was just around 8 hours including the border crossing and the seats were way more comfortable than the flight here from Canada. I do plan on a trip to PP when I come back the next time. My understanding is that there is an overnight bus. That could be fun for me to sleep overnight and arrive fresh.

Is the flickering possibly because Cambodia uses 50Hz electricity?
@FrugalWanderer10 ай бұрын
I thought of that before coming here, but I have an LED bulb back in Canada that does the same thing. I assume that they all have their own refresh rate and sometimes the camera picks it up. The funny part was that when I was filming, I could see the lights in the background flickering, but when I went back to edit it later, the flickering was mostly the reflection of the light on my face. Haha

@@FrugalWanderer Pal -ntsc and 50hertz - 60hertz and frame rate can cause flickering

@@heymaddo you are correct. I only seem to have the flickering issue with some LED lights. Not all of them. Luckily my software helps get rid of the flickering if it does happen. It's not difficult to correct. At least now that I know how. Haha
