The Fruit (By Christopher Yabsley): In 1884, Thomas Whittaker departs to the remote town of Ravenshollow after receiving a peculiar letter from his estranged partner. Bathed in a pale fog and lit by a sinister glow, Thomas quickly finds himself hunted by the deranged locals. He must evade the townsfolk and unlock the secrets of an ancient language if he is to have any hope of finding his beloved. Featuring an interactive reload system, players must battle not only the townsfolk but their own nerves to survive.

@@TheClairesable It is a popular hymn written in the 1800's and recorded for the game by a student choir at the music college I work at. There is a full OST and credits on my channel.

I think you missed a note (or I missed you reading it), but there's one written by the man who tried to cut down the tree that explains he feels responsible for the situation because he is a hunter who tried to shoot a stag, only to discover it had a human face. In a panic, he buried it under the tree, only for the tree to revitalise and start bearing the fruit, sending the village into chaos. Feeling guilty, the hunter decides to go into the forest and cut down the tree… And we see how that ended. It's a nice little tidbit that completes the story/circle of this tragedy we arrived late to.

The makers of this need a grant. The ingenuity of their combat ideas, mixed with the puzzles and how they play into dismissing the skulls. I feel like if they had a good chunk of dollar they'd make an exceptional product.

I liked this. Real glad that I've backtracked on your past gameplays and found this. I gotta say though, that I'm somewhat feeling bad for William, despite their relationship being taboo during those times. The man left heartbroken, ended in this place with all these loony villagers, got bit by the creature, and just when his lover unexpectedly shows up, he's already turned. Add to that, with this kind of ending, Thomas looked like he betrayed William by telling him that he'll be right back... only to walk away from it all and leave the latter to his fate. Hence, it's no surprise that Thomas met with such an end. All this weighted heavily in his heart.

This game conjured a ku-ku-ku-kuul eldritch atmosphere. ツ I liked the storyline, which held together; the gay protagonist (although the concept of gay marriage was anachronistic); the mechanic of the breach-loading rifle; and the constant threat. I hope you tell us, Chris, if there was an alternate ending--I'd be interested to know how it turned out.

​@@skylx0812 Absolutely! 👍 Same sex couples have been cohabiting since the emergence of homo sapiens, probably. 😊 And it has been sanctioned, at times, or at least tacitly accepted (e.g, a Boston Marriage between two women). But legal marriage (vs. domestic partnership) is a modern thing. (Of course, not being a historian, I'm not 100% sure it wasn't legal somewhere in the past, at least for a brief period of time.) Anyway, thank heaven things are changing for the better, imo. 👏 🎉

Ah...a nice bit of eldritch horror to unwind to post-work on a Friday. The games gets a good tense mood going and certainly at first you don't know just what to expect. Also love the gay romance sub-plot; a pleasant change of pace and makes sense in terms of the story and motivations.

Gotta say I like that this new Dread X Collection is focused on Shooting, so far to many horror games in this current generation have been mostly walking sims or run/hide games. I mean nothing wrong with that, but lots of developers seem to ignore the idea of horror games that make you have to choose/worry about combating the deadly nightmares, so glad the Dread X Collection The Hunt is asking these devs to try and explore some combat in their horror games.

I really wanna know if theres another ending to this. :0c cause it seemed like the protag was kinda on board with offering blood for the most part. Whats odd to me though, is that it never really said when exactly the people who ate the fruit became violent, unless I've already forgotten a note? I think the only mention of someone becoming violent was the non-fruit-eating sister. Don't get me wrong, shoving people off to be exiled in a swamp because they don't wanna join the fruit is still dickery, but not so much more so than the weird shit that goes on with non-eldritch fruit religions i think. Honestly tho, the story is damn good. This totally could have been a short film or a great book. Heart wrenching love torn apart by forbidden magic.
