I think the most amazing part of this video is you were able to find a X100VI 🤣Makes me wonder how sensitive other camera sensors are to IR if Fuji's can achieve this.

My old Nikons were great. Any of my M4/3rds have worked. Just have to watch out that some lenses will give you a hotspot at the centre of the image. I believe there’s a website specifically dedicated to this.

Pretty much all camera sensors are sensitive to IR & UV, though some cameras have a “tighter” hot mirror which blocks these. Fuji doesn’t, which is why this works so well for him, but newer Sony, for example, might not work so well. Usually for IR photography you’d want to remove the ir cut filter from the sensor & use the same ir pass screw on filter he used, as this will allow you to shoot at normal shutter speeds.

Same same, I've been wanting to shoot Infrared photos for the longest time. I know on Fujifilm cameras you actually get recipes that can take Infrared with R-72 Filter jpegs straight out of camera.

Is that so? I can’t seem to find one!

I had the Fuji X-S10 then the X-S20 with a Hoya IR filter but the exposure times were very long, several minutes! At the beginning of March I managed to get the X100VI and with the same IR filter my exposure times are almost "normal" .... that changes everything. On the other hand you should try black and white photos with your filter ..... I love the results and no reprocessing afterwards.

I had to subscribe after seeing this.👍 I recently switched to GFX from full frame and figured out pretty quickly that I can shoot IR without a tripod and it looks great. My old Canon would need like a loooong exposure and looked awful at high ISO. I've been on the fence about getting an IR converted camera for years, so that was an extremely exciting surprise. I"m amazed that this is the first time I've seen anybody else mention it.

Thank you! super cool that it works on GFX cameras as well! I"ve actually bought a converted camera now so I've got some more infrared videos coming 👀

Thanks for a very, very interesting video. I have already taken IR photos with my X100VI but only in B & W. They came out great. I tried the same with my Nikon Z7 but auto focus wouldn’t work and the viewfinder was black so I couldn’t even manually focus. I love your colour IR photos and will definitely give that a try with the aid of your fabulous video. This is so good. P.S. I had a X-T2 which also worked with IR. Greetings from 🇬🇧.

I've been experimenting with this too. The 720nm filter is too strong. Try this on a 650nm filter or a yellow filter. You're lacking some visible light from the spectrum, that's why you get so little color and you need all this heavy editing!

How do you get your focus behind this dense filter, do you manually focus or prefocus, and what about the exposure!
@futc.photography4 ай бұрын
I just used autofocus and that seemed to work. I set the aperture to F2 and ISO to 400 for most of these shots and had my shuterspeed on auto. I had relatively long exposures because of that, but the IBIS in the X100VI made it possible to still take photos hand held.

X-T5 work with this process?
@just_eirik4 ай бұрын
Would love to try this on my X-T5, I assume it lets through the same amount of IR light. Do you know if GFX cameras also let through this amount of IR light?
@futc.photography4 ай бұрын
I'm assuming it should work well on the X-T5 as it has the same sensor, but make sure you check if the lens you plan on using works for IR photography, the Rob Shea Photography website I have shown also has a list of all Fuji lenses that were tested for IR. I don't know about the GFX, but you might be able to find some information on that on the website as well.

best camera for infrared is the Sigma SD quattro (or Sigma SD Quattro H, basically the same camera with APS-H sensor instead of APS-C) It has a removable IR cut filter, so you can take IR images without the drawback of having to open super wide or use very slow shutter speeds. And once you're bored of it, just pop it back in ! Sigma DSLRs (SD9, SD10, SD11, SD14, SD15 and SD1) also have this ability, but those cameras are DSLRs, and they don't have Live View. So when you're puttin your R72 filter on your lens, you don't see anything in the viewfinder. You need to compose and focus the shot in the viewfinder without the filter, then screw the filter in and then take the photo. That's why IR conversions were much more popular than full spectrum conversions back in the DSLR days. The SD Quattro is a mirrorless camera, so no such problem, you can compose and shoot with the EVF even with the R72 filter on

I was thinking it does that out of the box 🤣with the Hoya Filter it's possible with a lot of cameras, that's nothing to get excited about.
@futc.photography4 ай бұрын
I heard that it works especially well on Fujifilm cameras, and to me it’s exciting that it works on the x100vi because it’s a fixed lens camera without having any issues. Some lenses aren’t any good for infrared photography due to hot spotting etc, and it’s pretty cool that it just works on the x100vi, gives a lot of people a very low barrier to entry on infrared photography. But I agree it’s definitely worth trying on other camera brands as well!

When it’s all just editing why are you even shooting in IR, just make a normal photo and edit it to these blue red colors? Oh you mention it at the end. Yeah pls experiment and explain it a bit more
