I love Rachel too. At first she's a foster sister who wants to have a fun life but is being dragged down by Jamie's trauma, but later in the film takes her out to trick or treat and wants to protect her with her own life from the unknown killer. It made for good growth for her and could've been continued in the next film. But H5 became a piece of mess.

Halloween is a masterpiece, but I always found part 2 to be much scarier. The hospital setting really made everything claustrophobic and because there weren't many other patients, it felt isolating. I also thought the mask, because it was stretched and discolored, it was more menacing. It also did a good job of feeling like it was a continuation, so I cannot think of 1 without thinking of 2. I also prefer that Laurie his Michael's sister, because to me, it makes absolutely no sense why Michael goes after Laurie specifically after 40 years. She is just some woman with no more ties to him than anyone else that encountered Michael and didn't die. Why her? To me, the sister angle made it as if Michael was the Terminator that doesn't stop until he kills Laurie (Sarah Connor). And that made it scarier, because you knew she always had to be on her feet, she had to confront him. Laurie could have totally avoided Michael if he has no specific reason for going after her. It's almost like he's like " well, if I run into her, I'll kill her, otherwise I couldn't care less." But, if the blood ties was drawing him to her, it meant that even if Laurie left Haddonfield, Michael would find her, like he does in H20. Without the relationship, she could have moved and never encountered him again, because he'd only kill in one place.
@AaronCoats-iy5zj Жыл бұрын
I agree with u but I do prefer Laurie not to be Michael's sister I like the idea that she's no kin to him but he became upsessed with Laurie after the first time he seen her is y he always tracks her down when he escapes
@itsalwayssomething7490 Жыл бұрын
@@AaronCoats-iy5zj I get what you're saying, but again, she could just move away and there would be no need for him to pursue her. If he was obsessed with her, they'd have to establish why, and they do no such thing in the movies. But, the sister angle gives him a motive. He already killed a sister, and so he would be after the other one. Makes sense to me. And that could be that I grew up with the sister angle, so I could be biased.

Agree. Halloween 1 and 2 are really the only Halloween movies that I find scary and still enjoy. After 2 the series just lost the plot and went of course and delivered either painfully average movie(4, 6 and h20) or just downright bad(the rest). For whatever reason they just were never able to recapture the creepiness if the first tee we o movies .. the new trilogy is just a mess and 2018 was the only decent entry . And now we are getting a tv series based on Halloween 😳

Never seen the Halloween series personally but I can see the amount of commitment and passion you have for the series. I Am a fan of your channel, reason I keep coming back is because you voice your genuine thoughts and opinions no matter how outlandish it is and don't put on that "KZbinr" persona we see in most channels. Your thoughts at end make me want to keep rooting for you, so I thought I'd give my two cents on what more I wanted from your retrospective. -Why is Halloween important? - what was the Cultural impact of Halloween? -How has the slasher genre evolved and how does old slasher compare to modern. Basically answering the questions a new fan or curious person may have when approaching the Halloween franchise. You could of answered these questions already in the video so I may look stupid in retrospect. I'll have to rewatch it since I did watch in parts over the course of a few days because of the incredibly daunting 5 hour length. Maybe split into parts next time then have a giant combined video of all parts? This post is long enough and I may look foolish but good luck out there man!

Since you mentioned a couple of times that you've never heard a Halloween fan say they like Resurrection, I just thought I'd be the first! I'm a huge fan of the Halloween franchise and there is a handful of Halloween movies I dislike over Resurrection. In my ranking of the 13 movies, Resurrection sits at number 7 for me, so somewhere in the middle. I know it's an unpopular opinion but I just get a kick out of that film. I view it as an "elseworlds" story. I usually skip the first 15 minutes (the retcon of H20 and the death of Laurie) and just enjoy it for what it is, a fun ride with some great kills. It has tons of problems and sure my nostalgia for it probably clouds my judgement but overall I enjoy the movie. Great reviews btw, you've earned my sub!

It's very rare to find someone who can look past the mask in H4 and say they like it. Halloween 4 was the first Halloween I saw when I was a little kid and Michael sitting up from under Jaimie's bed is still one of the most terrifying moments in film for me. I think the mask works in that one specific scene so I don't hate it as much probably but I absolutely agree in that Danielle Harris was phenomenal and she added so much depth in the original series and the Rob Zombie films. Her Annie Brackett made me so emotional.

So I just finished this magnificent video over the course of today! I just wanted to say from another huge, loyal Halloween fan, thank you for the dedication and time you put into this video!! It also seems your dedicated followers appreciate you branching out into other topics, which is amazing! My teenage years were a lot like yours. 4-6 were the ones I always had in my DVD player watching. Jamie and Loomis were my favorite characters, and their journey was so fun to watch. As I've gotten older I'll admit 5 and 6 do not do much for me anymore, but 4 is still up in my top 5 easy. It made me incredibly happy to know that you enjoy Halloween III. That's another top 5 of mine. It's just so different and if it were just titled Season of the Witch, I think it would have been a lot better off. While I agree with most of your analysis on the series, I am in the crowd that thinks 2018 is the best sequel. I had the same complaints as you initially, why 40 years later? Why skip Halloween II and erase a lot of the carnage of that night, and erase their family connection? Why not take the chance to bring back Jamie? All of that, for me, at least was put to rest easy as I sat through the movie on opening night. I'll admit maybe I'm still bothered at the fact that Michael is still after her despite no connection other than he chose her the minute she dropped those keys off. Halloween Kills is a hell of a ride, and it's great to see some love for it. The only issue with the movie for for me was the whole scene with the other inmate and the mobs' chants of "Evil Dies Tonight" I think I heard it in my head and in my sleep for a week or 2 after 😂. Halloween Ends was the biggest disappointment literally ever for me. Worst movie I've ever seen and I think I'd rather watch Resurrection a thousand times before I ever watch Ends again. Resurrection was bottom of the barrel for me but this somehow goes further beneath it. It was just such a kick in the dick, between the advertising and hype i had built, which was absolutely my own fault. I remember finishing the movie and just sitting in my living room in complete silence wondering what the actual fuck I had just watched 😅. I'm not sure if you'll read this but have you read Taking Shape: Developing Halloween from Script to Scream? It's such a great read. There's also a part 2 titled The Lost Halloween Sequels that's a super fun read into a lot of the scrapped ideas from the series. I'd 100% recommend checking out if you haven't! Ever thought of maybe doing something like this for Friday or Nightmare? Thank you again for this awesome video. I'm thinking a rewatch of the series may be in my future!

In a way, this *one* video is essentially a supersized collection of different videos other reviewers might do, put into one. And I appreciate the way you try to tie all the content together through the editing, breaks, and consistency. While not most can get through it in one sitting, it also makes for a nice background listening and doing other things. Great points and analysis on everything. *Theory:* (edit: it's quite rough ideas) I'm glad you talked about the way headcanon can work to fit H20 and Resurrection as part of the original timeline. I usually always think of it that way, even if they are considered separate timelines. But I find it works if you consider the trauma Laurie went through and the lengths she'd go to remain off the grid after an experience like that in 1 and 2. Jamie is arguably a better character, but I do like what they did with Laurie in the 2018 timeline far more, which makes her a better character in the end. Part of me wishes now they'd give Halloween 4/5 a chance to stand on its own as a baseline and completely redo/remake Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers to close out the trilogy in a far better way. Given where Halloween Ends went, I could see an alternative treatment being made to give Jamie surviving from 5's ending for years to come, much like Laurie's depictions in 2018 or H20-off the grid, but they redo explaining the Thorn cult and all that-perhaps getting their hands on Michael from the jail cell at the end of 5, he's kept locked away by the cult in order to manifest a greater evil(which would need to be explained), and Jamie is roped into this timejump sequel to properly conclude her timeline with her defeating him in her own way. Maybe Danielle Harris reprises her role as adult Jamie(with Laurie either being dead in this timeline as established in 4/5 or she's brought back somehow through explanations derived from H20). This can also further separate its way from H20's timeline to give the original timeline a definitive ending with Loomis passing from old age or trying to find Micheal and the demise is explained in this film and tied to Myers' capture from the Thorn cult. In a way Jamie saw her emotional connection to Michael in 5(him shedding a tear), Jamie reciprocates a full redemption character arc and takes pity on her uncle to free him of his curse once and for all. Their psychic connection is likely how she is still able to find him(meanwhile, Michael is killing all the cult members and perhaps other people), but Jamie retains this aspect of her childhood only through certain triggers like location setting(Haddonfield) or objects she possessed like a kitchen knife or finding a part of his mask(maybe torn off?). Those are my thoughts on a potential sequel I'd like to see having seen this video. And I quite like 4/5, it's Halloween reruns on AMC or such on cable TV every Halloween was how I grew up with the franchise, and still love it to this day.

My first time watching one of your videos. I love the style. It is clearly a ton of work, but it also feels like hanging out and talking about horror with someone as passionate as myself.

I like the first Zombie remake simply because he was ballsy-enough to present Meyers in a different way.

When Laurie shot out Michael's eyes in H2 1981, obviously he couldn't see where she was because he was blinded

The fact that it’s 5 hours shows you gave the entire franchise the respect it deserves. I looked at some and felt anything trying to some something like this up in an hour or less is lazy disrespectful when you could easily spend 30-60 minutes on each movie. I watch all of the Halloween movies every October in order except for Season of the Witch. I’m a year late to this party but I figured adding a documentary or 2 to the list wouldn’t hurt. Thank you for your time!

I'm fairly new to your channel, so I'm watching things out of order but I have to tell you the rant about Jamie Lloyd around the one hour forty minute mark is my favorite thing I've seen on the channel since the boxer rant in the Elm Street retrospective 😂
