Part 7’s house explosion is legitimately INCREDIBLE. Its so good it seems like it’s from an effects studio that specialises in it. Great video, sir! And can I say, in all seriousness….it’s a breath of fresh air hearing someone say ‘oh, she was really pretty’ or whatever it is. People aren’t allowed to objectify people anymore, which is correct, solely objectifying someone….bad. however, iis saying an actress is pretty objectifying ?. I don’t see anyone as an object, and saying that someone is pretty isn’t an objectification, it’s a compliment, especially in film. People like pretty, boy or girl, man or woman. It’s the whole reason studios usually want pretty women and handsome guys in their movies. I like that you point out stuff like that.

Much like how Freddy says “Every city has an Elm Street”, which makes it reachable and relatable no matter where you are, so to is there both a Halloween every year and Friday the 13th(s) sprinkled sporadically throughout every year. 40:03 Also cable tv came out soon after and boosted the popularity of the franchise. Cable tv is where I first discovered the first 4 FT13 movies in the early 80s. It was a great time to be alive.

My favorite horror franchise. Part IV: The Final Chapter is my favorite film in the franchise, and while there are some weaker installments as the franchise goes on, there are enough entertaining things to happen in the films that I’m able to enjoy them all. Seeing the reboot in the theater in 2009 was amazing and then seeing the original on the big screen for its 40th anniversary 3 years ago was great too. I love these films and I hope to see more of them in the future. Thanks for the amazing retrospective Ryan, take care!

I totally get what you mean. When I was a kid, I would ride my bike to a local video store in my hometown during the summer, rent one of the Friday movies, and then ride my bike home and try and sneak the tape into the house without my mom catching me. I saw all of the (at that point) nine movies that way, though not necessarily in order. Also, all the tits in these movies were the best thing in the world for a 12-year old in the pre-internet days.

I finally got around to this one and it was great as usual!! It's hard to believe I came to like the series since the first one I ever watched was JGTH. I remember catching part 4 on Spike TV on a Friday the 13th when they had a marathon going on. I immediately loved it and it's easily my favorite of the series. After that I remember seeing all the VHS covers at Video Circus and being so intrigued by them. Once I had seen all but 7/8/9 and had upgraded to the DVD versions I rented 7 and 8 and Loved 7. Like you mention, best design by far. My grandma used to have a membership to Columbia House so thats how I got all the DVDs up to Manhattan. It really is a shame how the MPAA made them butcher the later entries. It's also a shame the footage they have cannot be restored. I'll keep hope. They said that forever about the Halloween 6 Producers Cut, only to finally be officially released with the Scream Factory Set. I had a couple bootlegs with mehh quality lol I'm ready for a new Friday though. We've had 4 Halloween movies since the last Friday movie. Kind of ironic when it was sort of the other way around in the 80s lol

I'm a fan of Jason Goes To Hell. I think it's a really good time if you know what you're getting into. Kind of like Halloween III. I always tell people before they watch Jason Goes To Hell that Jason is barely in it, and that it's a new concept for the franchise. If you go into it with that in mind, and you aren't blindsided by it, the movie, in my opinion, is so much more enjoyable. It becomes another cheesy 90s horror movie. The same goes for Jason X. As long as you know what you're getting into you're going to have a great time. Loved the video as well as all of your other retrospective videos. Keep up the good work!

THanks for briefly reminiscing on video rentals ... commentaries on these '80s horror series rarely cover just how vital they were to mom-and-pop video rental stores in the '80s. These franchises were HUGE, reliable revene generators for *every* video store. I remember seeing these movies and posters for them year after year, for a couple decades. Going to see the latest Nightmare, F13, Halloween, and later, Scream, was a foundation of the pop culture of the time.

here is a good explaination of Jason from 6 onward. Revenants are obsessed, undead stalkers who arise from their own murders and are driven by only one thing: revenge against their killers. The common wisdom is that revenants arise only from individuals who have been utterly betrayed or abandoned to die a grueling death, but even then such victims might not rise from their graves. In other cases, revenants might even rise from what might legitimately be considered an accident if the revenant doesn't understand the full circumstances of their demise. In such cases, it doesn't matter that the “murderer” may not have intended to kill, for revenants understands no pity and can never forgive.

Friday the 13th Part 5 makes it very clear that the killer isn't Jason. Not only is the mask missing the axe wound, which the dream sequence reminds you about, it has different colored markings. You'd have to be stupid, as the viewer, to believe it was Jason.

My ranking of this series has changed massively over the years. They are also mega hot take territory but they are what I enjoy most. But my love for this series is 2nd only to Halloween. Also my top Friday film has and always will be Jason Lives. It’s epic.
