The fact people are “coping there will be a JJK part 2” indicates this story didn’t give a satisfying ending, as people are convincing themselves there MUST be more to this story.

there is absolutely no succesful media were people dont want more, only stuff that goes for too long are met with "its finally over" there are so many series that ended to a mix of ppl wanting more/satisfied that simply finished there and that is fine. its the most likely case with JJK the story finished and it finished well, people wanting more are people that enjoyed it a lot but cant deal with it being finished.

The thing that bugs me about the ending is the fact that Gege built up a lot of hype plot points...only for him to then brush them under the carpet and hope that you don't remember those things 😒😒 like I understand if he felt like he needed to offscreen the Hakari Vs Uraume fight because he needed to wrap things up...but WHY TF did they keep randomly bringing up the fact that Yuta was either a descendant of Michazine Suguwara or that he descended from the Fujiwara clan like Gojo?? Also what's up with Angel talking about Sukuna being "the fallen one/the disgraced one" (which would have been a perfect opportunity to throw in a Sukuna Heian era flashback) Also like damn...they couldn't show us at least one panel of a single Gojo clan member other than Satoru?🤔 Because Gege confirmed in a Q&A that Gojo's parents are still alive

editing is fire on this bro What a series, there were plenty of times during Shinjuku showdown that I felt perhaps us fans were more invested with certain themes and characters than Gege was in exploring. I think, Gege's health + Weekly release stress added up. And he has an author knew this was his best exit. I do feel like they closed curtains and kicked out the audience a bit fast, and lore dumping info (le Simple Domain) isnted of resolutions and last moments left bitter taste. But man, week by week as Shinjuku Showdown released, what a thrill. What a fight. I'll never forget you Gege, as long as I live!

I enjoyed your brief breakdown of the end. I don't think Gege was ever interested in answering all our questions or completely fleshing out the world. It was a coming of age story in a shonen setting. How we deal with loss and what gives life meaning were the most important questions to him. However I can understand a shonen/battle manga audience wanting more.

We perfectly wrapped up Yuji, Megumi, Sukuna, and Gojo's character arcs. The ancient evil cursed item was cleansed of its dark nature and, through being taught about love, becomes a talisman for good. Gojo's dream of fostering a strong and intelligent new generation that will overthrow the corrupt system of jujutsu comes true, and because of their camaraderie none of them are forced to carry the awful burden of "the strongest" like Gojo was forced to. Yuji learns the value of life and finally comes to terms both with the circumstances of his grandfathers death and the meaning/purpose of his life. Megumi grows past his despair and suicidal nature into someone who can see value in life/himself and live more earnestly. Sukuna is forced to accept that a life of nihilistic hedonism was not only empty, but the wrong choice, and chooses to go north and be better (if there is afterlife/reincarnation). It felt like a great mix of wrapping up the characters while leaving just enough about the world open to make it feel like a real, living setting.

@@pmanattack7363 Nice wall of text, is it ChatGPT? What do you think is the most common opinion on this? Do you support said common opinion held by the majority? Are most people wrong to feel disappointed? Do you approve of recommending better stuff to the JJK fandom?
@pmanattack73633 ай бұрын
@@nelisezpasce why the chat GPT accusation? lol, was what I wrote too complicated for you to understand? I think the common opinion is that JJKs ending was bad. I think the common opinion is also wrong, and that most people who read the manga rotted their brain through spoiler/leak culture and agenda posting while never actually considering the story they were reading. It sucks that so many people are disappointed by the ending, there's things I'm disappointed by too, but most people went into the ending expecting the complete wrong things, so I don't feel bad for them being disappointed. If you jump back a few months in time, you'll find massively upvoted reddit posts with thousands of engagements talking about how they "have no idea what this story is even about." Of course, those people would be disappointed by the ending. They had no idea what they were reading. How could Gege ever give them something they would like? 🤦♂️ Take Gojo, for example. He's the favorite character of the community, but most of them have no idea what his character or story is about. They unironically just like the "aura" moments. Whenever Gojos loneliness, sadness, isolation, and dreams for a future without "the strongest" come up, they get confused and angry and riot that he's "out of character" and "gege hates him." They complain that there was a "strange absence of Gojo" after Sukuna lost, when the very first thing we do is have our main trio read Gojos letters. Then we see a coalition of strong and intelligent sorcerers, the very thing Gojo committed his life to cultivating assemble to discuss both their actions in the past and what steps will be taken next. We LITERALLY got to watch Gojos dream be fulfilled vefore our eyes and people complained that Gege was "neglecting Gojo." Yuji ends the story by finding a strength that "won't be limited by special grade" like Gojo wanted, while showing the same kindness to a new down-on-his-luck curse user/jujutsu sorcerer like Gojo did for Yuji and Yuta, and people STILL complain that there wasn't enough Gojo in the final chapters, despite everything being a fulfillment of Gojos wishes and legacy. People simply don't understand the story they're reading, and instead of trying to understand get mad at the author. I approve of recommending different stuff to the JJK fandom. I think they should go and watch crash courses literature modules on KZbin and go pick up some of those books and learn how to read a story, then come back to shonen action. This is going to sound super condescending, but the joke about JJK fans not reading their own manga was true. These people are only ever going to be disappointed by what they read next since they clearly lack the ability to understand what a story is about, much less appreciate it. The ending isn't perfect, but it's a good ending, and most people are wrong to feel as angry about it as they are.
@nelisezpasce3 ай бұрын
@@pmanattack7363 I understand. Accessible "entertainment" (call it "media" or "content" and to some that is disrespectful) attracts way bigger audiences than niche ones (you can start reading a manga on chapter 1, unlike other stories that require 2 whole manuals before you can have fun). The "mindless consoomers" who only engage on a surface level and the ones that enjoy inspecting it closer, both are reading the same work, but getting different experiences out of it. However, the author can also be at fault by not presenting his thesis more clearly. Writers should know their readers well. A popular shounen title that earned its mass appeal through "aura" should keep delivering what is expected of it (alongside stuff the fans didn't know they wanted, but only as a bonus). That's where creative vision and executive demands clash. With lots of money at stake, should the magazine force him to revive Gojo? Make it all about Gojo? Greenlight a Gojo spin-off? I recently saw that video essay about Naruto's editor by CorvuSphere. Said editor pushed the mangaka to hurry up and introduce more characters, start a tournament arc, and so on. The author wanted to send the main trio to more missions across the villages, but plans changed. Makes you think whether Naruto would still be going like One Piece does, only replace villages with islands. There are many factors like greed or agendas that negatively impact serialized writing. It's like gambling to keep up with unfinished works. Everyone should be aware they can always be let down. Anyway, do you have anything you wanna recommend? It can take a decade or more after something comes out to judge it fairly. To evaluate its pros and cons, see if it still holds up. Recency bias may be as bad as nostalgia. Do you believe in timeless stories? Do you agree some will age horribly? Are you optimistic about future masterpieces? Do you even care when we have enough masterpieces to last us many lifetimes already?

Been fighting for my life defending this ending. Glad to see it covered in a positive light. My view is that the flaws in jjk only come in what it did not get to explore. In return we got to see the story of yuji fleshed out fully. Starting with saving people because his grandfather told him to being filled with rage and wanting to kill every curse he came across after his fight with mahito in shibuya. The story ends with yuji learning the cog mentality was flawed and he needs to be companionate. Being compassionate (like he was with the curse user) ties with what his grandad wanted AND mirrors how gojo saved yuta and yuji. JJK is yujis journey, it is sad that other parts of the story are not as in depth as yuji, but I think it’s fine.

The last chapter is decent (Gojo and Sukuna parts carried). But the ending as whole has too many things underdeveloped to be satisfying, so underwhelming. I would have traded the simple domain lore for more character focus from the main cast in the battle aftermath. Better transition off the heaviness of the war and more acknowledgment of fallen comrades' sacrifice, like Gojo especially, before the lighthearted tone shift.

Forget the ending. There are too many plots thrown out there that weren't explained, no closures amongst the most asked questions such as Gojo's background, the pupose of 6 eyes and why Tengen wants to kill it? Tengen's background and evolution, the JJK society itself. Sukuna's background and why he was an unwanted child, Sukuna's powers and how he became the King of Curses and his evolution. Kenajaku's 1000 year plot and its closure? Is he alive? How can he have a change of heart just like that? Got wrecked by a side character? Damn. A thousand year of malicious planning on destroying humanity was changed by "friendship" that's Fairy Tale sh*t right there. Megumi's useless a$$ never got a chance to redeem himself. Toji would kill him if he knew how useless his son is! Yuji? What's his domain? How did he gained such power? And why didn't he used it early while they were teaming up against Sukuna? Speaking of teaming up, if Maki, Yuta and Yuji can keep up with Sukuna, why didn't they just jumped on Sukuna early and beat him? That would give them 100% chance of winning! Especially when Sukuna was hit by Unlimited Domain and got stunned, they could have prepared a team teleported by Ui Ui nearby, like Maki that will ambush Sukuna since she can't be detected as we saw in this arc. Hakari vs Uraume? WTF? What's gonna happen now that the rest of the world knew about curses? USA won't just sit and do nothing about it! I mean if you pick all inconsistencies in this series, you'd probably publish a series of your own. Gege's one heck of a con-artist!

Reminder that the manga was going to be potentially cancelled around the time of the detention center and Gege wrote Yuji dying as a way to make the story more interesting. It worked, but it also shows there is maybe not as much planning going on as something like MHA; where the manga is a literal storyboard for the anime, the manga+anime are made in tandem, lots of writers planning all the character moments. You got a cool combat manga with some flaws and what Gege does next will probably interest you more if he can learn from his mistakes.

5:35 - I think it's more that Gojo wasn't an egotistical idiot, so a contingency in the event of him losing. Not that he thought he would inevitably lose beforehand (there's narration later on in the fight of him realizing he really could lose while in it in ch 233 like that was him actually facing that reality initially then). But he knew that it was more wise to invest in others in the long run than just himself, so he did those things in advance for them. He didn't have complete ego in himself like before - thus his confidence is less in himself than normal for his usual ego and more in the others, in particular Yuji, for the future. A last bit of great character development from Gojo.

People hated on Attack on Titan’s ending… I’m not taking anyone serious after that😭😭 the world feels incomplete because it is. It’s just OUR end THEY will keep living in this world, so why would there be a conclusion in their story. The little trio mission was a sneak peak to how their lives will continue. I liked it but didn't like this chapter as much as some others in the five chapter finale, but at least Fushiguro lived. I had feared his death and knew it would send me into a tailspin as I wanted the younger generation to be successful in changing the 'doomed' nature of the world of curses and sorcerers. Now that the trio is back together I'm just sad that I can't read them and Higuruma's adventures on a monster-of-the-month sorcerer mission series :( Thank you for your heartwarming videos and sharing this interesting journey with all of us.

I think the issue with the entire community reactions (aside from the fact the JJK community varies wildly from toxic af to chill af) is that for a lot of people this is their first manga they've followed week-by-week. What other mediums give you a tiny snippet of content every week? JJK manga will probably always be cursed by the fact that so many people first experienced it in the Gojo Sukuna fight. I've found the ending of JJK to be really enjoyable. I liked the NSS lore, it answered some cool questions about how Yuji learned it and some hints Meimei dropped. I feel like people feel underwhelmed because they were barraged with hours of theory crafting and reaction content between each chapter, how could Gege actually live up to that? Everything was a hint to something else. Every tiny detail was exposition. My view on how the manga would end has changed so much and I've been so wrong with so many things, but I enjoyed the story as it unfolded. Gege placed some cool hints (Gojo return, Yuta not dead, who actually predicted Yuta would copy Kenjaku's technique?) throughout the story and, I'd say, the vast majority of actual hanging questions posed by Gege have been answered. True there's a few unanswered questions, and a huge number of potential directions to go, but there's never shame in leaving a story hanging. I think everyone who's complaining would also say they've enjoyed the story of JJK in its entirety. If someone's only issue is what isn't in the story, then I just think they need to reevaluate their perspective away from consume consume consume. Also, content creators and readers in pretty much all JJK communities seem to forget that we aren't the target audience. The money JJK generates and the primary audience is in Japan. Gege isn't motivated by the English speaking fandom and I'd be astounded if he was even slightly aware of the reaction in the English speaking JJK community. It's almost laughable when people who literally consume JJK as leaked content and don't actually pay for it somehow think they're the customer here 🤣
@shakti12193 ай бұрын
I really hate how you ended with the "target audience" Bs because it doesn't matter who the audience is a good story is a good story. And the whole "week to week" part is relevent for the "sukuna cycle" or the sukuna gauntlet being hated on but the ending is a absolutely not affected by that. Often people defending the ending say "we got a conclution for almost everything" ..... but the main issue is that we didn't get it in a satisfactory or properly developed way, hence feeling extremely hollow - And the reason why ppl think we will get a part 2 or ppl still not being able to cope that it is over because the ending just doesn't have the weight and ended up feeling hollow.
@HeyHaydn3 ай бұрын
@@shakti1219 if you read my post, I'm not necessarily defending the ending. JJK is a story I enjoyed, and the ending it had I enjoyed. I could choose to feel like I want more, or I can accept the story for what it is and enjoy the parts of the story I liked. Everyone has things they wished happened, but the ending can only feel hollow if we let our expectations dictate our enjoyment of the moment. I think the last chapters set up some interesting future plot points, but also ended it in a way that let's it end now. It wasn't long ago Gege had a month off for sickness. For all we know he's decided he wants to do the manga he's always wanted (he's always alluded to this) before his health deteriorates.

Oh my gosh, I COMPLETELY agree with you on the "consumption mentality" so many of the fans have. Criticism is fine, and there certainly is a fair amount of stuff to criticize, but a lot of fans just read the leaks online and then shit on Gege himself instead of framing their criticism in a constructive way. Some (not all) of it is also just super petty (think "but what was Yuji's domain name???"). Personally, I liked the ending and am fine with the unexplored plot points, because none of them are actually plot HOLES. Not everything possible will or even can happen.

Man, I too loved the ending for me Yuji's use of that line, cemented his position as the strongest of the era. Gojo was a bulwark, and the antithesis of Sukuna, in terms of how they both handled the responsibility of being the strongest. Sukuna as we know it imposed himself on others, Gojo did the same albeit for the sake of preserving the balance, until such a time he found that a new era could be fostered and upheld by his students. I feel his last words to Yuji cemented the fact that Yuji would be the inheritor of the onus he once bore, though with his own unique twist, his empathy being the most prominent dimension of his character.

The story is a 10/10 but the ending is 4/10. 1. Gege brought up shadow style technique in the end moments of the chapter, what happened to that? no more information about it was given. 2. The recent chapters gave information about clans in jjk world fighting for power. Again no more information related to that after Mei killed the old woman. 3. Tengen's barrier collapsing is a threat to the entire JJK world. All curses will eventually leak into the world once the barrier is broken. This is like a Sukuna level threat and yet no information was given about it. 4. What really happened to Gojo's body? the last time we saw his body was during the time Yuta was using it and fell because of exhaustion while fighting Sukuna. 5. Kenjaku looks like a fool when trying to attempt to cause the "merger". No information was given about the merger during the end moments. While the Cursed World (something that Kenjaku mentioned) was never brought up or explored after Kenjaku mentioned it. There it is. JJK was truly the best anime i have ever read. But the ending just doesn't do it justice. Sukuna's conclusion is good and it made me happy knowing that he chose his path. But that is the only good thing about the ending.

@pmanattack73633 ай бұрын
These are my takeaways from the bullet points you listed, hopefully they give you a better appreciation of the final chapters (or at least something to consider lol). 1. Gege explained the new shadow style because it had been a hanging mystery since it was introduced. "What are the binding vows these characters allude to?" "Why aren't more sorcerers (like nanami for example) taught this essential anti-domain technique?" It was Gege's way of answering questions and showing on-screen how the new generation (without Gojo's help) usurped the more selfish self serving old guard for a better future. 2. There's no more fighting for power. The Gojo clan is powerless without Satoru, the Zenin clan is dead (with the remainers lead by megumi), Noritoshi is the leader of the Kamo clan and he's chill and a good guy, and the shadowy new shadow style group is finished. The good guys beat the evil shadowy clans. 3. I think Gege used the looming worry of Tengen's barriers and Gakuganji's seeming dismissal of their threat to cap off Gakuganji, Yaga, Gojo, and the higher up's arc. Gojo wanted the young to be able to live out the best years of their life unburdened by the threats the higher ups place on their shoulders (like in hidden inventory). Gojo spared Gakuganji because after the events with Yaga, he saw that Gakuganji had changed for the better. Gakuganji sparing the young from the turmoil of this threat that, though looming, won't be a problem for a while, shows that Gojo's ideology won out and that the Jujutsu world is both taking more responsibility for itself, and that it's being kinder to its younger generation. 4. I think the implication is they cremated it (after Yuta switched out), since Shoko berates Gojo posthumously for not taking the proper rituals with Geto's body. It doesn't make sense for them to draw attention to it in Geto's case and then not fix the problem for Gojo. 5. Yeah, the merger and how it was handled was a little weird. I was always 50/50 on whether or not it was going to happen or what it meant thematically for the story. I think it has something to do with boredom and entitlement, but idk. The cursed realm was an interesting sounding concept and I wish we got more about it.

You are gonna tell me with a straight face that sukuna kicking and screaming that he lost before turning into dust would go back into Yuji for a new life. However the next chapter we see sukuna he’s okay all of a sudden he lost? Where is the transition point? The big point is Gege never executes on any themes that he brings up. Which is why the hate is coming in. Why waste people time with these different concepts if you aren’t going to address them or show us validate transitioning of the character development. You can cope and say the central theme is moving on(which that was not the original central theme. The original theme was the point of life before death, and being a good person as said by Yuji in the beginning) but doesn’t change the fact everyone see this for what it is as a mess and repetitive going back to the shinjuku showdown.

Sukuna literally told Gojo only the strongest should get to decide how the world should work and seeing that he lost to yuji both physically and ideologically guess what he's keeping true to his word. I thought the story was fantastic, and enjoyed how the story closed out. I feel like the modern consumer of media is so giga-cooked that they've completly forgotten the nuance of an author not showing all their cards even in the very end to uphold a mystery. No good story reveals to your the mechanizations of how it works, and a truly great story never will. Tolkien for instance doesn't explain shit, he doesn't explain even how magic works in his fantasy world, magic just. Is. And you as the reader accept that and continue on reading one of the best fantasy stories ever written. You don't learn every characters motive, or every characters ending, some just fade off, some receive a proper ending and some even transcend the bounds of the page. But Tolkien never just hands you the story on a silver plater, ever. That is the mark of a good story-teller, to tell a story with just the right amount of mystery to where the story itself transcends the page and walk forward without the author at all. People will be theorizing for weeks or even years about JJK, that in my eyes is a good story. (No I'm not comparing LotR to JJK, just making a comparison about the process of implementing proper wonder within a story and withholding all the answers as to not kill that wonder you've now started to evoke as a storyteller.) My experience? I'm a professional storyteller and have been for half a decade and will probably be so to complete that entire decade worth of doing my profession. I've told stories that span years, who's endings were good for everyone involved, giving them proper closure but keeping just a bit of the mystery as to allow for those individuals to carry those stories forward for years to come. During my time doing what I do, people got married, had kids, and told their kids the stories I created. So. I know a thing or two about what I'm talking about, I personally think JJK in it's entirety is a good story. Fundamentally, it was a story about cycles and with the final chapter we can see the cycle is now finally broken and the students of JJH can live on as originators of this new cycle and bring in a new age of jujutsu, which was Gojo's goal since his first conversation with Yuji & Yuta. Thanks for the vid Weeb, I can easily see what you do in this series.

I mean i get what you're saying, and i agree that an author not showing all their cards to uphold a mystery can absolutely be the way to go....but if that was the goal with jjk's ending then imo was just not executed well at all. While tolkien of course doesn't hand you the story on a silver platter like you said, he also doesn't just set up a ton of plot points only to never mention them again, and then ramble about on completely different, and honestly quite irrelevant other things in the end. Like, i really doubt that upholding mysteries is what gege was going for with this ending, because if that is the case, thats gotta be the worst execution of it that i've ever read. It just seems to me that gege falls into that category of authors who are fantastic in the build up, and setting up plot points, but mediocre at best when it comes to bringing them all to a satisfying conclusion....George R.R. Martin comes to mind here.....but honestly, i still think that Gege was simply burned out and wanted to finish this manga as quickly as possible, so in the end i think the horrifying working conditions that mangaka are forced to deal with in japan are to blame for this, because i am still 100% convinced, that if gege had the time and the energy he would absolutely be capable to write a better ending than this.

Yuji and gojo's convo for me really showed how free gojo was in his final moments and in his journey. And Yuji saying the same line gojo said to the dude. Everything great about the character will be carried on. His strength, his ideals. People complain about chapter 269 a lot also. I have a different take. Simple domain conclusion is also a hint at the future about how the old ways of the elders and hierarchy are going to change. It's basically confirming what the series has shown in it's shadow for a long time. How the selfish and old and traditional ultimately bring harm to the future and ripping it to make a clear future where community, sharing and support reins over all is the most important. We suspected these old men from the clans were all vultures, as the old drunken Zenin man from the Shibuya Incident cost us so many people, and the whole Maki arc, but here we see it plain to see, they were LITERALLY parasites sucking away at the energy of these jujutsu sorcerers for their own gain, making them weaker. And when an emergency actually hit, no one was prepared. A shit ton of people died, and these old men were still safe in their own hideouts. The only people who actually stood up and got it done were the people Gojo kept close to him, the people who understood what he wanted for Jujutsu society. Not a group of selfish isolated strong individuals, but ones who supported each other and covered where the others lacked. This lore was literally a sign that gojos dream was coming true and a new world will be built by guys who are kind and passionate and not leeches. Overall the ending didn't live up to the massive potential it had but it's still a solid ending.

Instead it was like 2 chapters, and then we just skip to culling games, which were interesting for a while then the final fight just... began. And then that fight lasted like 200 chapters, wtf?

I love the story therefor I’m happy with whatever, but anything enjoyable we always want more. Bc the story was so amazing is why we would never be happy about any ending, is how I feel

I don’t think the ending was bad per-say but it definitely didn’t live up to the standards everyone had for the series. Think about it like this: From a scale of -100 to 100 The average series is at a 0 with its highs and lows reach maybe -15 to +20. JJK on the other hand was almost constantly a 80-100 so whenever the chapters became anything below a 40 people exaggerated how bad it was when in fact it was really good. Basically in my opinion we went from a 95 all the way down to a 5-10. Which if compared alone to other endings it is actually decent, but if we are curving the grade like a college exam then it’s kinda like if it was horrible since it wasn’t consistent with the rest of the series. Though I also think chapter 269 was the one that really ruined everything (give us something else and put that in a volume extra, you literally gave us the most useless character in Usami) Other than the fact that the ending just felt wrong and out of place and inconsistent, it wasn’t too bad.

The thing im happy about the most is to be on the sukuna train. I knew sukuna was an anti villain not a villain ive been the only person whos said that since the beginning. GOAT

Weeb... what a wonderful video. You have certainly earned a break! By chance do you have the song title playing during the video? I really enjoyed the music

It’s definitely not a completed story, but it’s an ending for sure
