Hey Vusi, I am South African studying at Harvard as we speak. I think you would be a great guest lecturer next year for the summer school at (Harvard University). It is sad because most African business icons are not invited to lecturer/or present ideas which as a result makes more potential students at Harvard assume that there are no great business ventures in Africa. Ill even organize with the lecturer. Please Grootman....

Vusi you struck a cord on two main things. One I have being mulling on while discussing a biz idea with a friend who resides in Ghana. I was appalled to hear how much charges are levied at the ports for e.g. Importing new cars. It's as if the system is designed to promote pollution and other externalities that comes as a result from driving old vehicles(I just can't get my head around why the government doesn't see either the complete abolishment of levy or taxes for such goods as a must for the benefits that comes with it). You touched on another point regarding removing the borders in Africa to promote trade. This idea was seeded by Kwame Nkrumah (the first President of Ghana) where he proposed the United States of Africa. Unfortunately he and my grandfather who was his aide de camp paid the price of death. " United we stand divided we fall as the saying goes"...this is what Africa needs to aim for to catapult it into GREATNESS. Vusi keep doing what u do best. I need to introduce u to a very good friend who is very similar in ideology and entrepreneurship (if interested do let me know)

I love your energy and need to empower our people, Vusi! I have a major problem though with your view on the historical context of wealth. It reminds me of Nail Ferguson's "The Accent of wealth" - which is a conservative, neo-liberal view. It makes it seem asif the West became rich from their own ingenuity. When in fact from the Italian Renaissance (15th century), Europe had not known wealth and set out to acquire it through their endless conquests. Let me end it there and point you to the work of Eric Williams who extensively researched the history of finance who said that "the origins of all the capitalist wealth of London were to be found in the slave trade" and their research found in "Capitalism and Slavery", C.L.R James & Eric Williams eloquently unwraps the sources of this highly contested history.

I totally agree with you on the clip. I have been watching Vusi on youtube and his presentations are great and very interactive. In this particular one, he refers to a graph, and the camera does not navigate to show the graph. Instead, they show a screen showing him talking, yet he is in front of the screen!
