I use my hay stacks as feed pins for bulls if I'm low on hay. A simple hot wire and a empty mineral tub as a water tank and it works good (one head) some times I'll do 3 bulls but then I need a small stock tank.

That Diamond Brush Mower is impressive! I'm a Bush Hog guy, having been born in Selma AL, their home. I even played on their little league baseball team about a hundred years ago! Nice of those folks to bring that unit out for you, it should stay on the farm! Impressive work today! You ain't sitting on the couch playing video games while Mom and Pop are on vacation!

What a bad string. Critters on the wrong side of the barbs, gator getting sick, and meatloaf gettin over done!! That's a BAAADD sitiation!! Hope the gator woke up in time to save the meat loaf. I was just about skeered to go make my burger after that. LOL Ya put in a good day Cole. Ya deserve better than that. I almost think that mower might be some fun. Nice to see all that standing stuff down to the ground after you mow it off. NOW, when it dries, it will not be a fire hazard!! I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks again.

I’ve been to a few rodeos and am always amazed at the skill ranchers and cowboys have with roping cattle. I don’t ranch or farm but do see how stressed calves and cattle can get with the roping technique. Even gathering up cattle to send them through the shoot to administer vaccines is more stressful than darts. I’m definitely for darts.

Great job Cole, I think there's nothing wrong with using a dart gun. You did a good job with that Diamond mower, nice piece of equipment, love to have one, but I would need a skid steer/loader with it, so that's not going to happen. Anyway, I am very impressed with your can do attitude, that slew was pretty nasty and you just got in there and did it. Thanks for the video, hope you all have a great week, stay safe.

The herfords look great. Get them trained on single strand electric fence in the feedlot. They would love the grass and respect the wire around the hay. That mower sure does do short work on yard maintenance.

I never new that dart guns were available to non vet personal until I saw you a few years back. I bought one this spring and it has paid for itself many times over. I've done the "Roping" option before and tied it off to a tree. But the calf is stressed and bellerring, the mom and all the other cows get worked up. The dart is quiet, quick and very effective.

Many years ago when Brain was still in short pants the farm I worked for growing wheat and barley would harvest according to the lines at the silos and even leave trucks overnight in the silo lines. The latest gadget back in those days was big mobile drying bins in the fields that we'd load from. The worst job was getting rid of thistles because that meant digging them out with a mattock. I can remember starting some large paddocks where I thought I would never get to the end of the thistles.

Pro tip: Run the front down more than the back of the mower... that will give the cut material a place to fall out as you move forward. I've run one for about 12 years, and finally found that tip in the mower manual. works great!

Darts are much safer than a rope. Many years ago my father decided that we should tattoo the ear of a calf that had just dropped the day before. It was the heifers first calf and she wasn’t having anything to do with anyone getting close. I brought this fact to the attention of my father but common sense never got in the way of my father especially if it only pertained to my well being. His plan was for me to rope said 800lb. cow and tie her off. Well the heifer didn’t get the memo because as soon as that rope landed on her neck she charged the only person that could have thrown it. I don’t know if you have ever tried to push with a rope, but I can verify that it doesn’t work. I was lucky and young so a quick vault over the gate saved my bacon. I vote for darts.

Roping is grand if the animal has horns, dart gun is quick, effective and less stressful to the animals than if you had to run them all to a collecting yard to treat one or two. A friend of mine uses a weighing scales on a water drinker to measure weight gain of housed animals..all animals have an electronic neck collar..he said it can take up to 2 weeks for animals to gain weight after the stress caused due to moving or working them.

Save a horse ride a gator. I’m with you Cole. Like my cattle nice and gentle and come to the feed. I asked an old rancher in south texas why they still did the cowboying? He said if your cattle came to a feed call that you would end up getting your cattle stolen. But I like the saying “do it how you like to do it and what works for you” meat loaf is one of my favorites. Especially left over for the old morning sandwich

Cole it's always good to get out and trim and mow in August because any grass or weeds have a tendency of snow drifting from the pile of weeds that you didn't mow in August when you had the time to. Another. must do for your checklist is is to check your burners on your bins cuz that's Another fine place where mice like to gather at and destroy the wires, I usually checked them over but if the wires looked like they were out of order or messed with then I would call the bin guy cuz we had a burner that stuck on during the night and the neighbor called the fire department and they dumped a lot of water on top of the corn in the bin but we ended up losing around 10,000 bushels of corn and it ended up burning down in the bin like a layer of sand on the bin floor.. After going through that ordeal I always remembered that if you ran out of wood for your fire you could always use corn to stay warm with. LOVE the looks of the herefords can't wait to see there calves.

Our farm is a mix of timber and tillable. When we got it there was 60 acres of CRP out front. I mowed all 60 for the most part with a brush mower I bought for our skid steer. Great attachment, but where it really shined was mowing the honeysuckle bushed from underneath the canopy of the trees. It'll mow trees up to about 4 inch if you ease into them. It's a bit more robust on the bottom side compared to the Diamond. We bought a SkidPro HD4. The company turned out to be a little shady in practice, but the product we bought is solid.

I’m thinkin’ I’d like to do some mowing with that great mower you’ve got Cole! How fun to operate it and satisfying it looks! Everything looks so good when you get done. Did the water completely drain? The cows are looking good and calves too! Thanks for raising beef to feed folks. Thank you for sharing your day. Storla Station

Hey Bucko! glad you are surviving without the boss man. So, I was thinking (a rare thing indeed) you mentioned that you would normally graze off the weeds etc so given you are lean on feed could the stuff you mowed off be grabbed up and fed to the critters? Loading the corn looked like a bit of fun with you sprinting to and fro and the belt overflowing. I seem to remember you had a tractor mounted backhoe for doing drainage bits? Stay safe buddy.

Love all your videos! Greetings from houston! Hey, could you make a video about barns? Like for people starting out, what is needed. What you have, what you would change on them to make work easier… etc
