I have made my own self-watering containers for each of my planters and garden boxes! It's so much cheaper and easier!

​@pwcolorchoice planters are a plastic bowl with snap lid, makes several small holes in the lid with one larger hole the same diameter as your fill pipe which I use 1.5 inch PVC with a 45* angle cut on bottom, a cap is nice too. With the leftover pipe cut 3/4 inch feet, I used 3, for each bowl, hot glue on. 1/4 inch dowel stuck into a 3/4 inch cork is your water gage float for the fill pipe to see at a glance if your bowl is empty or low water. The pipe sits against the edge of the pot. Little soil, place your bowl, fill with soil, fill your bowl, plant your plants! The roots will grow deep to find that water source!!

Merlin sound ID app sounds so cool. We have mockingbirds in abundance here … they are the official State Bird of Texas. I’m curious now if the app will be able to detect a mockingbird pretending to be a cardinal, etc. I’m totally going to go get that app. Thanks for the info. Another great show this week. I use this app all the time, and it is very good at identifying what’s out there. You can also record a list of sightings. A must have for bird lovers!

I’ve had spearmint and mojito mint, each in their own large containers survive for many (7+) years in 7a N Utah. They survive our winters outside in a protected area, as do my many containers of hostas. Each year they all come up onto our front north facing deck, hostas next to the house in the shade, mints on the edge of the deck in the sun!

Thank you so much for watching our show! Bluebirds like open areas with low grass and areas where they can perch for hunting. They love mealworms so if you're able to add those to a bird feeder, that would help as well! And, of course, having some trees and shrubs helps give them more perching and shelter options ☺
