Cuba Gooding Jr. and Laurence Fishburn were close in age when they starred in Boys N Tha Hood, hence the joke on their age differences 🤓

I'm loving these re reactions. This movie is not only one of the greatest parodies of all time but it did put an end to all those trauma filled hood movies. The joke with Ashtray's dad being a few years older than him is because Laurence Fishburne is only six years older than Cuba Gooding Jr. They were father & son in Boyz N The Hood. People said that Cuba Gooding Jr. looked older than Laurence Fishburne. The Grandma was played by the late Helen Martin. She appeared in a lot of movies & shows back in the day. Here are some fun facts: Omar Epps, Marlon Wayans & Mitch Marchand who told Grandma she had the Juice in the end all went to high school together. The driving instructor was also in South Central. He died in a car accident.

"You bound to drizzown" Btw, the theory of jumping in new gang members is that if you can stand your own against a bunch of m'fers (enemies) jumping you, you can stand your own against like one or two m'fers that try to catch you slipping. Kinda moot though, when everyone in that lifestyle has burners 🔫🔫

I actually like this kind of rewatch. You're rewatching with fresh eyes after the knowledge you gained from those classic hood movies. It's kinda like watching Scream before watching all the movies it parodies, you won't get the humour or satire, but will def enjoy it more after watching all those classic horror movies. There's a certain scene in Coming to America that's similar. If you watched it before watching Trading Places, you won't understand the significance of a certain scene that links the 2 movies together. Then when you rewatch CTA again after watching Trading places, you immedietely see how both universes connect with no explanation needed. You'll also find yourself with a big smile on your face.

5:10 When the original movie Boys in the Hood came out, Lawrence Fisburne and Cuba Gooding, Jr. were "father and son". Gooding (Tre) is actually six years younger than Fishburne (Tre's dad). That's the joke in this part of the movie.

So the dad being younger than Ashtray, I believe that's a reference to Cuba Gooding Jr and Laurence Fishbourne being close in age. Another parody makes fun of that same deal with Collin Farrell and Angelina Jolie being mother and son in Alexander.
