"the cars have outgrown Spa" Never truer words
@blackjacktrial6 ай бұрын
They've outgrown tarmac and each other. They might as well be 75% the width of the track and just park up most of the time because passing is nearly impossible in these cars (too big, too planted, too flat through corners to allow overtaking). The cars need to be smaller and squirrelly like the lower formulas to allow overtaking - if you can't have mistakes, and you can block the whole track up, good luck anyone trying to pass.
@Alex-md6bu6 ай бұрын
They naturally have too much downforce, remember when talking about the new aero for 21 and they said how you need the rear wing to provide the slipstream to cars behind, now the underfloor is providing so much downforce they are running tiny rear wings meaning the tow is not significant enough to make for good racing, I know they’re changing rules next year so not much need for any changes but they should be looking into reducing the floor size/ Venturi tunnel size in order to reduce downforce and encourage the teams to run larger wings again

@@teufox842 you also can’t tell me a heavier car over 44 laps wouldn’t have been slower with more tyre deg? He prob wouldn’t have been able to pull it off to begin with. So you yourself agree that there is no way to know for sure. I agree that this sucks. And thats why there is no alternative to a DSQ whenever a car doesnt meet the technical regulations. But you cant just say "Russel tried something and it backfired". Because we have no idea why his car was underweight. It may well be that his car would also be underweight with a 2 stop strategy. Lewis drove a great race and managed to beat every other 2 stop strategy driver on track. It doesnt take anything away from him to say he inherited the win. Because that is what happened. 1.5kg under the weight limit at the end of the race makes a massive difference in both tyre deg and total race time - at the end of the day he gained a few seconds over a race distance and that's the diff between p1 and p3 (or even p4 seeing a Leclerc wasn't that far behind). So a bit of a fuckup on Merc's behalf just like running Lewis' car too low at the US GP last year - it's marginal things but it makes a massive diff at the end of the race.

As a McLaren fan, the bit at 7:20 is pretty much how I feel. Yes, they arguably should have more wins than the two they've got so far, so it's disappointing on that front, but on the other hand, the fact that they're even in this position, proving that the step-up in performance last year wasn't a fluke and that they have genuinely built a strong frontrunning car for arguably the first time since 2012, is great. It's just unfortunate that the car seems ready for a title fight before the team and drivers are! They're essentially having to relearn how to operate as a top team rather than as a midfield one, and it's shown on several occasions this year. Having said that, they'll surely learn a lot about themselves as the year goes on, whether they win more races or not, which will hopefully bode well for a crack at the title in the near future.
