We about to sign a deal with Honda to produce EV's in Alliston, and EV batteries in Windsor. Ontario has an electric vehicle future. How is a family with a couple of driving teen age kids and or a 30 something living in the basement, going to be able to charge 4 or 5 cars? Go to public chargers you say? In a no fossil fuel future you would need as many chargers as there are gas pumps only IF you could do a 3/4 charge in the time it takes to gas up. If the charge takes twice as long, you need twice the chargers. 40% of Canadians rent, the vast majority will need public chargers. It's a scam of epic proportions.

@@panagiotischristo Those commercial charges are supplying in the range of 250kW. For context, your average house might - under full load from the grid - cap out at like 50-60kW draw. Think about the weight of a 220V line to an oven, or perhaps your washer/drier - and that is thin, and light in comparison to the type of cabling you need to supply 250kW peak draw. We are talking not commonly made, extremely heavy duty wire, that has to be up to par with no issues that would result in unwanted heat generation in the wire. That cabling is not cheap, and then - you need to get a technician that can deal with high voltage. The reality is, electricians certified to deal with high voltage equipment aren't exactly common. So you have expensive materials, expensive labour, and time. Once the repair is done, you are going to likely need safety certification from the manufacturer - because last thing the company is going to want, is someone to plug in, use the charger, have the charger fry the car - and be liable for the repair of the car + charger. The current state of things is a bloody nightmare.

In some places it is already free, or very close to that. Spain at times has prices as low as 1 Euro per Mega watt hour.
