IMHO If you compare it to a high quality single skin kite like Flysurfer Peak 5 and add a boom, it is almost the same. Yes, it would be great to have it less than 500 - and still have high quality.

I think BRM knows this is not going to last long at all and they are milking the market of early adopters to the max. They have no patent and they have really invented nothing...the control bar type they use was patented by a german for land kiting and some users posted foiling vids with this kite ( StreetStar Born to kite) many years ago. Gong ,Ozone and many others will jump into the fray soon. So just wait a bit and you will have a short line kite at 500€ or so.

Maybe a less expensive alternative could be a simple sled kite. It's a hexagon with two parallel spars attached to four corners and a cord attached to the other two corners. Normally you hold the cord with both hands, but you can also hold it with just one hand at the center of the cord. You collapse the kite by holding the cord with one hand at the center, and then using your other hand to slide the cord together.

I've tried the 5.1m and so far it's been a total challenge. y'all are lucky with your winds out there... the 2.9m must be a dream to fly and just deal with in general compared to the 5.1m

EXACTLY what I was thinking. The DW/wing board is probably ideal for beginners. But the midlength/bigger prone board may prove to be ideal in terms of float to get up, and size to rip! Would LOVE to try one eventually. Guys like you are invaluable because you've spent the money and help others determine if it suits their needs and budget. Big thanks!

Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. So cool to watch the birth of a new sport from the beginning. We didn't have this front seat KZbin viewing when Kitesurfing, kite foiling or even when Wing foiling was born. Good observations with the lack of depower and angle of attack from a sitting position. Will the Parawing (is that we are calling it?) evolve to a collapsible wing, that stuffs in a Robin Hood style arrow pack? I'm sure someone, somewhere is working on it.

Glad to see your having success. I just received my 5’2 and went straight to the beach in 18 knots winds. Pulled it out thinking it would probably not be enough power to pull me up on the board. As it launched all by itself just like the videos I felt like my arms were going to get ripped out of their sockets and got pullles down the beach twenty feet before pulling myself together. I’m 156 pounds and typically experience 12-15 knots but I think I need a smaller one even in those winds. Good lord I see the potential for sure but that was shocking lol.

@@sadorno Good to know. Did you let go? Were you able to ride it or it was too much?. BTW 18kt creates roughly 33% more power than 15kt with same sized sail. I am always a bit surprised by when i do the math (squaring the wind speed).The energy increase in a couple knots is very non intuitive.

GREAT info. I am on O'ahu. I typically see 12-15 knots up at this one spot and I've had luck with a 4.5M traditional wing I have a 6.5 that I don't even have to try to get up. I was thinking the 5M parawing may be ideal for those conditions. But now that i hear you saying you were overpowered, it makes sense. The 4.5 is ideal ONCE up on foil. The 6.5 is easy to get up but I am always overpowered once up and digging upwind as hard as possible and letting off some power/sheeting out. Really wish I could demo before pulling the trigger.

I surprising how Maui guys are able to start a water sport. This kind of parawing was used a few years ago in the Gorge but ran out of steam, Same for kite and until it was used on Maui it remained obscure thing in France and on snow here in Canada.

I keep on thinking when i see the pumping movement to get the board up out of the water, isnt it possible to make it easy by including a spring and a joint in the mast? Once up it can be locked, But seeing a innovations lately it will be tried later. 😊

Curious to hear on what you think the advantages & disadvantages are of the pocket wing vs para wing. It feels like para wing is more polished & has more upwind ability vs pocket wing seems to be just down wind focused.

I have a 6.2.. and the thing is kinda scary. Really gets heavy with water and is impossible to drain all the water out. Spent two hours trying to deploy it in 10-14 knots.

@@twidmer I found if you pick it up in the middle and work to the tips it helps drain the water out. Just a little technique to dial in.

@@stevesurfs I shot a twenty minute video I may upload talking about my struggles. I actually got up and rode around but was still using my foil drive about 20 percent just to get the feel. I think standing up on the board and grabbing the leading edge and letting all the water out is the ticket, although it really likes to be deployed like an upside down mushroom which is tough to get back to after the water is drained. Plus getting the lines wrapped around my leg or nose of board completely shuts me down. I have about 5 seconds to react or else I am shit down till I get to shore.

I have used similar products for snow and Ice kiting dating back at least 40 years. We had snow kite rigs like this before we even had kites. I even put 6 to 10 foot extension lines on them to get into better wind stream. This might have even before we had inflatable kites.

Why would you use this wing instead of a common wing ?

@@achilledup1121 the main advantage is that you can collapse and deploy the wing on demand, so for wave riding you can get on the wave and stow this away allowing you to ride the wave without a sail. Same concept for downwinding

@@stevesurfs each day I go out I get less frustrated.. it seems like it has such a smaller power band for the sizes. I can ride a 5.5 in almost 25 knots easy wingwise, but my 6.2 would have cut me in half if I tried it.

Maybe a very narrow prone board with volume to make getting up easier and then a smaller foil so your not overpowered??? 6 ft x16” volume 75 liters and a 700-900 cm2 foil?

I think a little shorter and wider will be ideal. Even with my 90 sqin foil I was overpowered, but I’m still trying a bunch of stuff out
