It's good to search for things sometimes that you are not interested in at all. Maybe, like the study of flies. Throw the algorithm off. Also. Shut the phone off. I agree. Fun fact: I taught 16-19-year-olds for more than 40 years. I always cringed at the inflexible system, but did everything in my power to focus on the only thing that matters: guiding young people into the wonderful realm of thinking for yourself as free, responsible, critical, curious, flexible human beings. There are, and have been, many of us teachers who have done this through the the years. Not all soldiers in the army of indoctrination have only obeyed orders, but we have used school as a platform to do what is possible. If you haven’t met teachers like this, I feel sorry for you. It IS possible to do a lot of good from within a system. A bit tricky, perhaps, but hey, everything that matters is. At least people should try to do what they can while waiting for some better educational system to arise. The points they made in this video about lifelong learning focused on your own deep questions was brilliant, imho.

I was born in 1952 . I had redesigned my life over and over again perhaps 15 times. And at the time I had no idea about AI and adapting to new conditions. I still think all the adaptations I had to come up with was nothing personal. It was not about me. If any individual finds adapting to the new circumstances I do not have the heart to tell them that they do not have what it takes. I do not think not everyone has to be that flexible. I do not think that We have any right to demand ways to treat everyone as if they have to change at any given moment of their life. No. I feel that some people cannot change that fast and we have to find ways to create a system that is kinder and more gentle to some of the people if they cannot adopt fast enough. This is the critical point. Let's not forget we humans care for children, physically sick or handicapped , mentally not ready, psychologically fragile. We have to find ways so we do not push them around. This is a humane way. Disadvantaged groups of any humans or any other organic life must be treated with this in mind.

Why is "adapting to new circumstances" a good thing? Far too vague. Is it a handicap to refuse to "adapt" to the hacking he is describing? I can think of a way to resist algorithms -- it may not work every time, but I already know it works many times: do NOT function in a single language. That alone builds your resistance to manipulation.

I am sure people will participate in the rat race in varying degrees of interest and no doubt reap the benefits from it accordingly. What's important is there to be a system to handle those who are unable to take part of it for many different reasons. The problem I think is that those people are often tossed in the group of people who don't want to participate out of sheer laziness which makes e.g. UBI (Universal Basic Income) quite impossible to get through any government. But the fact that the future will have so much automation that it will be hard for many to find jobs, means people need some kind of security through UBI types of programs, and the acceptance that some people find their own way to participant through sharing creative work or social work. I am sure as the amount of work people actually need to do in order to have a normal life falls to zero, these things will be impossible to ignore unless governments actually want half of their population as homeless people. It will however be interesting to see what the psychological effect will be for people who are trained in the old "work for pay" model we all live by now.

Work is one of the best places to acquire self-knowledge. And self-knowledge is essential to being successful in your work. The same is true in education. Better academic performers tend to have better awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses and the strategies that work for them.

Maybe playing with children, or visiting a somewhat lonely aunt, or doing some handyman chores for a neighbour that can't do it all alone - maybe these things should be considered 'work', and better work at that, that some of the jobs we have now. As I am not a greek historian, I must inquire as to whether dear Socrates , walking barefoot through his city, posing questions to passerbys, formulating opinions based on various conversations and generally spending his days running away from his wife and enjoying his day posing questions and engaging in discussions with people, if he was one of those " useless" people? The algorithm from computer can predict human in many aspect as you said. But they still rely on another human being to input all the data set and observe all the sequential action of an individual. rely on other human being to exude the consequential act. in a sense, hack human is manipulated to target certain group of people or individual who’s is either in a vulnerable position or leadership position. And what about data analysts, are they safe from hacking? And how individual protect themself from hackers in modern life? What’s the evolve really means for an individual? Thank you for your talk!

Big love for this talk. Another important point to consider is to learn skills to be more self-sufficient: gardening, sewing, carpentry etc. It is absolute soul food to create for ourselves. Self-sufficiency directly decreases our individual carbon footprint. And no algorithm will be able to sew your child, or best friend a blanket that will keep them warm in body and spirit. Food for thought.

Yuval, I think that you should re-examine the things that Russell had to say in this talk. It really seemed like your thoughts had more of a tunnel vision perspective, and that the things Russell was saying were relevant and not confined within the tunnel vision way of thinking that seems to be your habit of thinking, perceiving etc. you could grow as a person, expand beyond your intellectual and perceptual bubble. really, i think that it could be worthwhile for you, and thats my advice, re-examine things, and re-examine how you think about things, and perceive reality.
