Felt so good to be back doing what I love in the “real world” for a change. Thanks for watching and special thank you to my Patreon crew for helping me review this video before it hit KZbin to check it for errors and give me feedback ❤️

Super-professional attitude, as always. I'm at home, in lockdown, programming cues and not likely to gig until at least February, so it's good to see some guys still managing to get out there and do their stuff, however limited. Peace.

This are the kind of shows that I relate to, mid to low tear venues, limited budget compare to the vision of the show, have to use some personal favors from rental companie/retail to acomodate to budget, last minute changes and suggestions to acomodate, etc. Those are the gigs I'm really used to. This are the gigs that show who has experenence and who's faking it.

Thanks Christian, nice video. In my opinion when lighting for camera it's important also to consider the color rendering index of the lights used (CRI), particularly on FOH, and I try to provide a soft lighting look whenever possible. For example in your rig I would have considered moving the sunstrips downstage, pointing up, as foot lights. Just a personal taste, thanks for the video.
@christianjackson4 жыл бұрын
That was something I considered as well :) We ended up going this way so our steadicam op and talent could walk down the stairs at the front of the stage
@shadowshapers4 жыл бұрын
Second this about the CRI of stage fixtures. I have a feeling stage LDs will be having to know the difference of low and high CRI rated lights in the near live-streamed future.
@lostproductionspdx4 жыл бұрын
Looked really awsome, good balance between all the elements, nice smooth front wash too even with that short arc lamp source. Lighting for camera is truly a whole different animal and a lot of clients and artist's don't get that.
@shadowshapers4 жыл бұрын
I'm looking forward to when stage LDs figure out how having LED fixtures with high CRI ratings will impact the look of their live-streamed shows.
@christianjackson4 жыл бұрын
I would have killed to have the budget for a proper downstage truss of Encores :( Hard to do when half of the budget is spent on a console rental.

Do you have any advice for my first lights software/ console to learn? I know ma2/ma3 is very good but I think it's a little out of my budget. Keep up the good work, I'm loving your content, always makes my day better ❤️❤️.

Avolites is alright and reasonably cheap. Can get a USB solution for c£150 last I checked. But nothing compares to a MA desk (Reference: used Hog, Avolites and MA2 - MA2 light and onPC command wings as standard)
@BrockMcNeely4 жыл бұрын
Probably MA even though it's more expensive its everywhere
@rhyscooper36934 жыл бұрын
It all depends on use purpose. If you're lighting stuff at home or a house party you could learn the fundamentals in free software like QLC then transition into the free universe in Dot2 to get closer to MA programming. All will output artnet which you can buy fairly cheap.

Live events will get back to normal at some point. I don't know how the US is doing but for the UK, live events at the earliest may start back up in the second half of next year. There's a live performance in Inverness which is actually a concert this month.
