Early on in this pandemic, it quickly became apparent that to end it we would need to ensure everyone in the world had access to a vaccine, an enormous undertaking that would require significant international cooperation. Global leaders came together to call for a solution that would accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, as well as diagnostics and treatments, and guarantee rapid, fair and equitable access to them for people in all countries. The solution was COVAX, which has the world’s largest and most diverse portfolio of COVID-19 vaccines, and has enlisted the support of UNICEF to be their key delivery partner.
In 2021, UNICEF is stepping up to supply 2 billion COVID vaccines, 165 million therapeutics, and 900 million tests to help end the pandemic and safeguard the rights of children worldwide. They will deploy COVID vaccines to over 180 countries and lead the distribution in 92 developing countries in what will be the world’s largest and fastest operation of its kind. Join Dr. Robin Nandy, Principal Adviser and Chief of Immunization of UNICEF, as he discusses the role of ACT-Accelerator and COVAX to ensure the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to the most vulnerable and the secondary impacts of the pandemic on the health of children around the world.
