My son was diagnosed with AML three years ago when he was 19. He had acute monocytic leukemia. Interestingly, while he had probably had it for a little while, it was diagnosed after he had his wisdom teeth removed, and it didn't seem to be healing and his gums were extremely swollen. That, along with his WBC count of 108,000 led his oncologist to diagnose him even before he had any testing done. He also had it in his cerebral spinal fluid. He went through 5 rounds of intense chemotherapy. He has been in remission for 3 years, and is engaged to get married this summer.

@@cjzelaitis So, you had AML and got a stem cell transplant? I hope you are feeling better now. Fortunately, my son did not require a transplant. He went into remission after his first round of chemo, and then completed the remaining 4.

@@AS-yz2iz I'm doing a lot better now, thank you! I still have a long way to go, but I'm so happy about your son and congrats on the wedding! I technically went into remission after my first round, but I still had two more rounds plus the transplant. I'm just happy that both of us were lucky enough to catch it early🧡

I found this while researching my cancer A.L.L. Don't worry, I'm in remission, have been for... I think five or six years now. This is very helpful in learning about it. Sadly, I have either O+ or O-, whichever one is the rarest blood type. The sad thing is, because I had a blood cancer, I can't donate any bodily fluids. I don't know if I can donate organs though.

I got acute lymphoblastic leukemia when I was five, almost six years old. We found out after I almost slept through a fire drill. I had to be woken up by two classmates. When I woke up, I was surprised because I heard a fire alarm. I think you would be alarmed too (that pun was just too easy to pass up). Oh yeah, I forgot to say, I was in kindergarten and naptime used to be part of kindergarten and naptime just happened to be before the drill that day.

I got diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia aged 14, after 3 months of symptoms and been told by doctors it was a water infection, pulled muscles and puberty. Finally one doctor listened and ordered blood tests. 18 months later from remission aged 16 I relapsed and had a stem cell transplant. Now I'm 31 and although not in the best of health from side effects of the chemo and radiotherapy (had a bad reaction to it all) I'm thankfully still here.

2 years ago I was diagnosed with AML. Doctors called me dramatic and was saying since I was 18-19 years old that blood counts can fluctuate. It was until my hemoglobin dropped to 4.5 and a hospital stay that they finally saw it in my blood and sent me to Emory in Atlanta. I‘ve learned SOOO much about the disease and want to be able to help others like me through. After losing 4 friends from AML I’ve been pursuing a nursing degree for oncology and hopes to further this into a doctor of Hematology oncology. Thank you for your post and for helping me to further understand! To anyone watching this vid or reading this post that has been or is currently going through treatment for any type of leukemia, I’m praying for YOU!!💜

I lost my father due to Acute Monoblastic Leukaemia this week. It's been 5 days and i am trying to accept the fact that he isn't with me anymore. He was only diagnosed 4 months ago and he was completely okay whilst his treatment was going on until he caught a fever and then a lung infection which took him away from me. As a person from the medicine and health sciences field and my sister is a doctor herself we closely monitored our dad daily and made sure he lived the best life he could in his last days. I wish he was here because I wanted to do SO much for him. I will always regret it.

@@pamcraftsandtreats My father was just 60. Yes he was perfectly fine, he had no symptoms whatsoever until one day he bled a lot through a small cut and then we got his blood reports which showed reduced platelets and finally through the bone marrow test we got to know he had AML. The only medications are to suppress the symptoms if the patient has any underlying disease (which my dad didn't have any nor did we have any familial history w cases of cancer) and the conventional treatment is ofc Chemotherapy to reduce the WBCs.

I had AML when i was 12. I´m forever grateful to science, doctors and my friends and family for the fact i always had a positive surrounding and beat it after 8 months of intensive chemo. today i am 26 and so happy to be alive. if any person could say that he loves everyone and anything, it would be me. i just love everything, there's no other way to explain my feeling towards the world. The feeling of "i get to live and experience life after being so close to death" is unexplainable. however i did not always have this thought process after my treatment. I felt a lot of pain for a long time... Why me ? Why cant i do the same things as other kids? Why cant i have a normal childhood ? why cant i think the same way as other kids? why cant i focus on my dreams? why do i feel like little things don´t matter? why do i have no sense of direction? why am i feeling depressed? and loads of other thoughts that followed. I was never a victim but my thoughts for long time between the age of 16-24 were negative and for again, for a long time i felt like i was this victim that i told myself so often i wasn´t. If you are reading this and have a family member, friend or if you are going through this yourself, please speak out, to anyone! whether it be me, your dad, uncle, friend...Life after cancer can be hard, but we all need to make a choice to speak about it and seek the help that we may need.

This past Father's Day my dad was diagnosed with leukemia, and it ended up being a mixed phenotype, so he had both lymphoid and myeloid leukemia combined. It took him in about two weeks. I'm going into medicine, and normally this sort of thing is super fascinating to learn about, especially something so rare as mixed phenotype acute leukemia. But it just hits different when the patient in question is your dad. I'm glad to see stories of survivors here, and I hope everyone who sees this video holds their loved ones close.

My wife and I lost our just turned 2 year old son 7 months ago to Aml. He had MLL gene rearrangement or subtype KMT2A or 11q23. He had a translocation between chromosomes 6 and 11, t(6;11). He received cytarabine, daunorubicin, etoposide, gemtuzumab ozagamicin then mitoxNtrone and cytarabine. He relapsed after the second chemo which signified refractory Aml which had a poor prognosis. Decitabine with mylotarg was then used. He died shortly after from within 4 months of treatment. Some side effects he had were bloody nausea and diahrea. Horrible bloody mouth sores. He was in pain all over. His right eye was covered by a leukemia pool that ended up bleeding. He had a lot of liquid in his lungs which they thought was pnemonia. He ultimately died from a brain bleed within 24 hours caused we think by the chemo.

One of my best friends (we’re both 12) has aml leukaemia and it started off with her staying home a lot because they thought she had the flu but she didn’t obviously. She was away for atleast 3 months and was in and out of the hospital the whole time but none of her friends got to visit her or see her but she came back to school yesterday and found out she isn’t loosing her hair and she’ll be done chemo in January. She’s had over 5 bone marrows done and has a centre line I think it’s called which goes underneath her shirt. She’s the same person and you wouldn’t even know she has leukaemia/cancer if she didn’t tell you. A nurse from the hospital she was at told us all about it and said they are certain she’ll survive.

I feel well now just finished the second dose of chemo last week and I feel normal but the first month was horrible. 2-3 months are remaining to finish my treatment. Non of my friend know about it and basically no one expect my family because I don't want anyone to know. Actually I'm much happier now even though I'm stuck in the hospital 24/7 because before I was diagnosed with AML I was sad all the time and overthinking. I feel better now cuz I toke a break from the world and had time to my self.

That can occur in ALL and CML both, but the difference lies in the molecular weight of the protein the fusion codes for. It's 190 Kda in the former and 210 in the latter. Additionally , the prognosis is inversely proportional to the molecular weight. Less the weight poorer the prognosis and vice versa. That's why AML has a poor prognosis

Jesus Christ healed me of 28 years of drinking and doing drugs then in 2001 Jesus Christ healed me of AML at Maricopa county hospital in Phoenix az 2001. I only had AML for a month. I have been healed ever since. Doctor fine told me I had 70 percent chance of dying from leukemia. I told Dr fine, Jesus Christ will heal me. I have been healed 20 years now amen!

@Ela Lamblin I will pray for her but she must ask God to forgive her of her sins. Then she must go to a Christian church and ask Jesus Christ for the pastor to pray for her, after the pastor prays for her then know she is healed. Wait on the Lord Jesus Christ to heal even when death is at your door. Pray and pray that Jesus Christ will heal never give up. Please believe Jesus Christ will heal. Also remember to confess your sins and ask for forgiveness.

@@dr.chickenfingers5696 you must have faith Jesus Christ will heal you. You must not doubt, you must act as if you are already healed. Repent of your sins with your heart and hold unto God's word forever.

I have AML, I have been in remission for 10 years. Chemo and a stem cell transplant healed me, but I am not cured. I think you're a charlatan who is peddling religion as a cure to desperate people, you disgust me. I don't believe you had AML for one minute. And no, don't pray for me, just pray that I don't come looking for you. 😡

My mother is 68 and she has had this disease for 3 years. Is it really curable? I read online that it’s difficult to cure but her doctor seems to think it can be… I think age is also a factor.. she’s been on treatment for it and it did seem to go away, but they are keeping track of things and continuing to test her marrow. Then recently she got sick with a cold or flu and ended up very poorly and had to be hospitalized. Her body seems vulnerable when she catches a cold..

Hello sir. When the blast cells come out in blood , why does it increase the wbc count? It should either increase the count of all cells , ie, rbcs, platelets and wbcs or none as they are blast cells. Please help me to clear this doubt.

Does anyone know about AML with a mutation of FLT-3 POSITIVE. Hes taking chemo pills of gilteritinib and is scheduled for another bone marrow biopsy on te 29th. He starred out wih MDS and was on Dacogen, he did great but this usually turns into AML which it did. Dr is shooting for remission. But I'm not liking what I've read about that mutation. Anyone know anything about this?
