Great ideas like these ought to be known and appropriately applied by leaders and policy-makers.

Although he did not give a concrete solution, he made some very good points: the city is defined by it's citizens. No matter how much planning one does, the multitude of violently wild factors that are its people is what actually shapes the city. In the end, it becomes the duty of the individual to shape their own niche in the best way we can so that we may collectively develop the urban environment we live in. I like how he cited how our problems were not unique, they were simply problems encountered in developing urbanities. It gives me hope to that Manila will also be able to solve it's gridlock seeing how incredible other Asian cities have become. Again, that depends on the mindset of the people.

I totally agree with you. The discussion about this must start from somewhere and this presentation is an eye opener. We need an open, intelligent discussion about this as nobody has come up yet (I may be wrong) with a suggestion on how to solve this problem. We as the people must have a stake in all this. We can't just be naysayers or critics and not offer anything even if far fetched. Surely someone has a brilliant idea somewhere! Anyone?

The MMDA must watch this.

Good urban planning is the key!. Maybe add more trees in the cities like Singapore, Also with better transportation

So basically, people have to come first and planning has to be around the people. Manila just desperately needs an efficient train/metro system.

Would the current president even consider high rise parking buildings in his Build, build, build initiative?

May I call on the MMDA and the city planners to watch and see if there's a lesson that can be learned from this presentation. Also I guess, can somebody please enlighten me about people buying cars without any place to park them. Should there be a place, like a high rise parking area where, vehicles can be parked, at a reasonable fee instead of the current situation where they're parked everywhere clogging thoroughfares as a consequence? I think citizens should be responsible to consider this before buying cars., especially those in highly urbanised areas where there's a dearth of space to be had. High rise parking areas strategically built around highly populated areas in the city might be the future.

I personally think that the govt should limit the retail of private vehicles. When it comes to sqm per person it will only cost a lot of budget to conform this mode of transportation and provide infrastructure projects. It wont be cost effective. Rather, the government should invest in effective, efficient and properly managed mass transportation. In this way streets are less congested with private vehicles like suv, eating up thoroughfares which leads to heavy traffic. We could solve this congestion if it weren't for the greedy officials gaining money from transactions of purchasing cars. High-rise parking would generate another problem. And probably wont be patronized by the locals due to addtl expense.

Proper consolidation, communication and inclusive planning would be the only solution. Stay safe, mam ❤️

I was hoping for some innovative ideas to improve Manila, it's a mess.

Manila needs no-child policy like China and no-car policy like Singapore. Politicians probably bribed to keep out public transport. My wife went from province to Manila to find a job. Napoleon III knocked down slums of Paris, you didn't mention him.

The I guess you haven't seen the other side of those cities you've been to. Manila died when WWII happened.
@theoserr93319 жыл бұрын
you are resting on past glories. kuala lumpur used to be a big swampy area of muddy ditches while manila was at par with any big cities of europe and america. look at kuala lumpur now. then look at manila now. a charicature of accomplishment vs decay respectively..

Theo Serr Manila never recovered after WWII. It did somehow became very strong during the Marcos regime but quickly fell as fast as it rose.

Marc Elpedes hahahahaha, marcos made it strong? LOL. on the contrary, it was marcos that ruined the working economy and democracy of the philippines. where do you get your history books from? mthe whole philippines was working as a nation post-WW2. we were second to japan and on its way in the region. if it werent for marcos we would be what south korea is now. marcos bankrupted the whole economy which is why we became the sick man of asia.

Theo Serr Well I lived during martial law but not in Manila. As I said, Marcos did many good things but the country fell as fast as it rose because he abused the power. As a final note, Marcos requested Cory to continue the BNPP in order to sustain power demands of the country and he further stated that the country will fall in 20 years. And of course, Cory figured that if the power plant is ran, the people will remember Marcos. BNPP remained the most expensive project and is still being payed today. If the power plant was continued, many problems will be solved. Oh and btw, you say Tokyo is the best city to live in? Pfft I can see that you don't live in Singapore
