Anyone in NSW remember when separating our 3rd party vehicle road insurance was supposed to make it cheaper? I quickly learned never to trust anyone who says 'this will make it cheaper.'

From the US, I was born in South Florida and my entire life I grew up with all of my power coming a nuclear power plant. Specifically Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant. I've gone through so many fucking hurricanes and there has never been a serious issue. Nuclear power is honestly amazing and has been really blown out of proportion by genuinely evil big oil, I hope y'all think about it. Nuclear Power and Green Energy is the future.

@afs5609Ай бұрын
I watch Four Corners to see if the opposition had progressed beyond saying nuclear is the answer to all our power supply requirements in the next 40 to 50 years, & came away with the feeling they are selling an idea with no detail, like buying a car thats still in design form with a long lead time before it goes into production, they did this about eight to ten years ago with the NBN, & we all are still paying & experiencing that monumental disaster.

I don't have a basic objection to nuclear power in Aus. The waste is a problem but I think we can address that. My problem is the price, the skills and the infrastructure to implement it.
@peter65zzfdfhАй бұрын
20 years ago I was a fan. But now it’s very clear if countries with established industries are having trouble with reliability and building them for what batteries + solar already costs, and nuclear is getting more expensive and batteries cheaper. Nuclear power has passed as an idea. It’s last century. Unless the plant is already built it’s uneconomical with overwhelming proof this is true.

Hey Aussies, there is this distant mythical land called South Australia which is a fantastic living example of what can be done with renewables in 2024. They're using solar, wind and storage to build-out a grid that is durable, clean and cheap (and getting cheaper). Suggest checking them out!
@embracedmadnessАй бұрын
Australia does not have the heavy industry, engineers, building capacity to make nuclear affordable or built on time. Let alone the cost of storing the waste.
@caraes81Ай бұрын
Australia already stores nuclear waste. The point is, where one sees a shortage, others see an opportunity. Australia has some of the finest engineers and researchers in the world, and it is not like they will be inventing the wheels.

There are pro's & con's with any form or sourse of energy, overall I am convinced that nuclear energy in Australia's time has come! If we take seriously the goal of meeting net zero by 2050 it is the only way forward, in the future we will need more energy not less.

@kristoferalexander7559Ай бұрын
It's the only way forward in my opinion. With how expensive utilities are in Australia, and with our large landmass and stable climate and environment, there is barely any risk factors. (Yes we have bushfires but they're barely a risk compared to earthquakes etc).
@tarik5897Ай бұрын
The reasons the Coalition is so fixated on nuclear power is simple. It takes generations to get up and running, and its the only energy source that will still benefit their mining magnate mates. They barely so much as mentioned it during their DECADE in office and they cant keep on pretending climate change doesn't exist because were not stupid.
