Thank you for including improved nuclear fission as an option on this list. It’s frustrating this is rarely brought up by Green energy advocates. Economies of Scale has proved time and again more money invested make industries more efficient and safer, had significant investments not stopped after 3 Mile Island we might already have these technologies.

That's because the doom-n-gloom types want us to remember that every nuclear reactor is just one moment away from producing a Chernobyl-sized cataclysm. I mean, do you know how many active reactors in land-based facilities and naval vessels are CRITICAL right now? 100%! They're ALL CRITICAL! EVERYBODY PANIC!
@mikitz
@mikitz 4 жыл бұрын
That's the real irony: if we had invested more on fission, we'd had better fission tech, making it safer. Now the nearly obsolete reactors are the only ones we have, thanks to the 'environmentally minded' mob. Thankfully we'll have fusion soon enough, believe you me. Of course these same bastards will see an impending apocalypse with that as well...

I've seen where folks made fuel cells that use electrolysis to generate the hydrogen. You don't want to store hydrogen in tanks, that's for sure!
@twocvbloke
@twocvbloke 4 жыл бұрын
There's a lot more to it than just electrolysis, as with that process to break water apart into H2 and O, it needs far more energy in than you get out of it, whereas with cracking hydrogen from hydrocarbons (aka freshly squeezed dino juices) is a lot more efficient, one of them unfortunate truths, not saying it's impossible, just not efficient, even if you have a surplus of energy to play with...

On earth hydrogen is not an energy source but an energy container. That's because we have to make hydrogen from molecules like water or some natural gas and requires more energy than we will ever get out again. Simple law of physics. Basically hydrogen is a kind of battery and because of its high energy density and relatively easy to store it can be usefull in some niches like flying, seaships, some exceptional land vehicles and most importantly in storing stationary sustainable electricity from solar cells or wind turbines. With signifcant losses unfortunattely but still usefull especially in the approx next two decades (until better and cheaper large batteries come along)

Rewatching this two years later and with a little more knowledge. I'm surprised you brought up ethanol and hydrogen fuel without bringing up ammonia fuel cells. Nitrogen is abundant in the atmosphere (making up over 70% of the air) and burning it with oxgygen just produces nitrogen gas and water making it have no fossil fuel equivalent gas products. 4NH 3 (g) +3O 2 (g) 2N 2 (g) + 6H 2 O (l). I think the video I saw about it mentioned using it for cargo ships because of various storage and byproduct (water) dumping reasons.

I don't understand why we don't have more large scale solar farms in places like the Nevada desert. Land is basically worthless except to collect sunlight...and it collects more than other areas with more expensive land. Win win right?! California keeps running out of juice, no reason they can't pump some out of Nevada! For that matter plenty of desert land in CA to collect solar power too, why are we not constantly installing more? People think electric cars are the answer...and then don't understand the huge extra strain that puts on the power grid. They still gotta have their energy generated somewhere!

it doesn't really matter how much a vehicle pollutes when the process for the fuel it uses it 100 times more polluting. Snub people likes to coat ones elf in gold for using electric cars, while they would never even consider going to the shop on a bicycle even on a sunny day. meanwhile people who don't care about the environment clearly show it by adding an extra butthole (exhaust) to their car; everybody knows that two exhausts do not change the performance of the car, only makes the driver looks like an idiot.
