Mate mentioning Gordon Murray's T50 is interesting, as this, along with the Rimac, are probably the only two genuine mega cars. Genuine in that they go full on in the direction they have chosen. They are basically polar opposites, but stil have menu things in common. No holes barred engineering is the common denominator. The T50 is an analogue, extremely light weight, Normally Aspirated car. The Rimac C2 is electric, have a lot of driver aids, even a driver coach, torque vectoring, both have a variation of active aero - and so much more. The ultimate test would be to pit the T50 against the C2. Two great cars, which both will be important in the car history. So cool!

Gordon Murray to me is #1 - I put him at the top, he's the godfather of supercar design. Then Koenigsegg, Rimac, Pagani and then Porsche (Porsche can give you ANY kind of car) and then Bugatti. Macca is now 8th on my list, losing points because of many, many complaints by owners. Koenigsegg came up a long way to make it where they are. Pagani actually deserves its place - Randy Pobst chose the Huayra over the hypercar trio. Ferrari made a fantastic car with the LaFerrari and the GTC4 Lusso, but they're rather notorious and play too many games, so I put them below Mclaren. Mercedes AMG is the one supercarmaker I don't really get, their cars come across as muscly brutes, but the Project One might change my mind. Tesla is a surprising entry on my list, but Randy Pobst really likes the Performance Model 3. Aston Martin is still a wildcard - I am still keeping my fingers crossed if the Valkyrie, Valhalla and the new Vanquish will finally be sorted. So is SSC.

They seem well positioned to make something like a 911 on batteries. Or even a broad platform to challenge all Tesla at their own game, providing they get access to similar cell technology as Tesla is about to unveil. Imagine a more European version of Tesla, practicality over novelty. Track performance over hype. Rimac has the technical know-how, they are where the non-Tesla industry get their BEV technology! Porsche already invested in Rimic twice that we know of. The way Bugatti, Porsche and Lamborghini are tech leaders within the VW group, Rimac may have positioned itself as indispensable BEV technology consultant. Able to get more investment whenever needed.

What is the C_2's maximum magnetic braking power? The Formula E cars achieve huge kW values using magnetic braking (just from rear wheels!), and planned power from Gen-3 magnetic braking goes much higher (with generator on front axle). What changes to drivetrain and electronics is necessary to allow large power recovery? How is one-pedal driving programmed to accommodate such rapid magnetic braking when pulling back on pedal, given that drivers of fossil cars tend to just let completely off accelerator when they want to slow even a little bit? (I drive a Model Y, and almost never use the brake pedal.)
@glavatazelva4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you thought about the Rimac F1 car ?, whether the charge could be reduced to a comparable speed as in the formula?, f1without the Doppler effect!
@Cloxxki4 жыл бұрын
I bet the new car will be mass produce. From 8 to 120 to...50.000 a year or more? Do what Fisker is threatening to do. A software platform that allows for all kinds of batteries and motors and chassis. Make a Porsche 911 challenger, maybe even a McLaren challengers, but then a battery powered one. By the time the car is ready, Tesla may be selling their cells to third parties already. Cells that will drop hundreds of kilograms from a long range car such as the C_Two. Imagine a C_two that weighs as little as a Porsche 918 Spyder, but still lots more power and plenty of range for GT duties. After Koengigsegg launching a full hybrid 4-seater, Rimac might make a spacious Taycan like car. But lots and lots lighter. If they go for cars that can be sold in the thousands, price needs to come down and efficiency is key. There are strong rumors that the Korean cars get their efficiency from Rimac technology. Imagine a nice estate car that had Tesla-like performance, similar or even better efficienecy and a lovely not-a-Tesla look. I bet Mate wants his country to become a serious player in manufacturing. Going a similar path to Tesla's, but always doing more technology consulting on the side, could make this a reality.

Would anyone be interested in designing an electric RACE car with me? Inpired by all the good things from Gordon Murray's T50, Rimac's technologies, Porsche 919 Evo, simply make the fastest possible race car and then lock the specification, sell cars for one or multiple race series. Road version optional. With the best battery and aerodynamics technology, mated to clever chassis design, I strongly feel a BEV can be build that keeps up with a Formula2 car over a race with one or 2 pitstops. Whatever weight penalty there would be over F2, like 919 Evo did to match even F1, would be overcome with much more flexible (T50 inspired, maybe doubled fan) downforce and really low air drag at speed. And of course AWD for acceleration and regen from the front axle that's usually not in play in circuit racing cars. The battery (or at least the part that provides range energy) would be swappable. It sits in a tray that can be wheeled out from the side during a pits stop. Should be possible to do quicker than a pitstop at LeMans. Let alone during driver swaps. A "hybrid" high power density battery might still be employed, fixed inside the car, to take care of high-inflow regenerative braking without overheating, dumping it to the wheels accelerating out of corners and doing that many thousands of times over the life of the battery. This removes load from the range battery allowing it to be capable of lower discharge C rating, in effect also allowing for less cooling, cell and overall weight to get far enough at race speed to complete a decent stint. When the car has multiple batteries "sizes" (weight really) to swap between, during a race choice can be made for a long stint or a fast stint. Especially if output power from the range battery is limited, the lower weight of a smaller battery would mean faster laptimes. The T50's fan in streamline mode...imagine having two of those, reducing overall drag by around 20% or more at 250+ kph. It would save energy over a race and allow cars to be spectacularly fast for spectators. In corners where you need it, drag could be introduced along with downforce. Very clever from Gordon Murray. Helpful for EVs that are having problems going fast for an extended amount of time without stopping. Our race car would be able to match LeMans winning cars over a 24 hour race. How? Similar weight or a bit more, shorter stints but faster pit stops, better aerodynamics to make high speeds, both on straights and through corners possible. When Tesla starts selling better cells, a 25 minute stint will become a 35 minute stint. Not at Formula E pace but F2/LMP1 pace!
