Many people centuries ago had their own grand visions for the future of humanity; some were spot on, others not so much. It makes you wonder, what does the future look like? Where are we heading, and will there even be a world to exist in?

I frequently think about this. We imagine the future like an improved present. Instead of the revolutionary thing that it usually is.

'Improved present.' Nice choice of words. And you've right; it are the revolutions along the way which drastically change our course which makes these predictions from the far past about the far future very difficult to do.

I always like how in older sci-fi movies they can be thousands of years in the future, with AI, faster-than-light travel, teleportation, planet-vaporizing weapons...but control it all with big clunky keyboards and monochrome CRT monitors etc.

"You cannot prepare for the future by securing it or making it predictable. It will never be predictable and if you attempt to make it so, your life will become very dull and empty. Your need for comfort and your desire for reprieve against your own fear cannot be accomplished by eliminating all possible change from your life. Your greatest concern is that you will not accomplish what you came here to do. If you truly examined your mind and undertook the reclamation of Knowledge, you would realize that this is your greatest concern. There is nothing the world could do to you that would be a greater concern because you are only here for a little bit of time, and whatever the world could do to you would only be for brief moments in your great span of life. But not fulfilling your destiny here leads to disappointment and requires your return. This is more uncomfortable in the long term." *Wisdom from the Greater Community* - Chapter 8: Preparing for the Future.

@Lady Himmlen You're already on your way there by admitting that you don't know and that you are lost. Most cannot even make this first step. The only way in which I can aid you in this is by pointing to the Way which may or may not be meant for you. It is called The Greater Community Way of Knowledge or The New Message from God. The core of the preparation is a book entitled Steps to Knowledge and its companions Wisdom from the Greater Community and Greater Community Spirituality. Good luck.

I just had a huge coincidence. I tried to explain shower thoughts to my parents and searched for one of Apertures vids. But I forgot the channel name. I typed 'shower thoughts' and hoped it would be suggested to me. But it didn't. So I tried to remember and literally that second I get a notification about a new YT vid uploaded 😂 And now you can guess who it was lol.

If the future is almost entirely virtual, i wonder if people from the future will see us the same way as we see cavemen, not as an insult but more as an insight into a time before people were educated on the importance of "digital hygiene". It may become more of an issue after full dive VR or AI symbiosis are invented, up until then however, we could be living in the "technological dark ages".

Imagine trying to completely describe a modern smartphone to someone in the 1800’s. How would you explain having a tv in your pocket when tv wasn’t even invented? We have a device in our pockets which act as a tv, radio, record player, telephone, digital copier, scanner, typewriter, computer, video camera, vcr, flashlight, camera, map and compass, oh and the entire combined knowledge of all of mankind.

This is not surprising. A running joke I have in my interviews with anyone even vaguely asking if taking a paper from five decades ago and doing something with it would be interesting. It always should be, because unless the gap between us and people on the theoretical side of things starts narrowing we're mostly OK, Imagination counts for so much more than people realise.

One of the best science fiction shows that I have ever seen do a superb job of predicting the future was an anime series called Serial Experiments Lain. Released in 1998, it predicted the smart phone and the social ramifications of a society connected through social media. If you were to watch it today it feels like a contemporary anime due to its accurate prediction of the world we live in now.
