Either get it open again ASAP with a more reliable launch system like an LSM or replace it quickly. Knott's is capacity limited; it's challenging enough with Monty being down until next year and this issue isn't helping.

@@AmericasCoasterNetwork after almost 18 years this December, the good ol reliable B&M still carrying Knotts on its back while other rides around it are closed, broken, or being refurbished. Reliable, high capacity, loved by both fans and GP. i hope Knotts has learned what their best investment has been, especially going forward, hopefully this justifies the need for another B&M and its potential cost.

Just got a season pass a few weeks ago and it's still down. It makes me so sad seeing my favorite ride closed. It's such a tease. Who knows what the future holds for it? They already got rid of Perilous Plunge for Coast Rider. But then they gave us the incredible Hang Time. Knott's really lacks in big coasters, so Xcelerator would be a devastating blow honestly. It doesn't help that Montezuma's Revenge is closed off for a few more months and Fiesta Village is heavily closed until the summer either. I picked the wrong year to get a pass 😂 but Monte is coming back in a few months revamped. Hopefully so will Xcelerator. I'm also hoping they add another big ride somewhere else in the park. They can get rid of something near Ghost Town maybe

They’re definitely keeping Xcelerator. While it’s had its problems, it’s nowhere near as bad as the issues that plagued Top Thrill Dragster.

I think they currently have long term plans in play, refurbing their legacy rides for the past 10+ years, Log ride, mine ride, rapids, beary tales, Monte, Hotel, Ghostrider retrack, renovating old restrooms & eateries etc. They've pretty much refurbed all areas of the park over 10+ years (Boardwalk, Roaring 20's, Ghost Town, the former Wildwater Wilderness, and now Fiesta Village & the Hotel, Mrs Knotts Restaurant in the Marketplace), all that's left is a few more restrooms refrubs, modernize a few of the food locations to help speed up operations (Sutters), and lastly the Main Entrance, Guest Service, and Parking Expansion. Their retail locations can afford to wait a little longer as their refurbishment isn't as costly, nor are they as needed as much as food and restroom locations. I imagine they will be smaller quicker fixes than the aforementioned. After all the infrastructure projects have been addressed, I believe then they'll be ready, and in proper position to add the giga-coaster or "next attraction" (don't want to trigger the Giga will never happen crowd). Xcelerator may or may not have been factored into the long term plans after all the infrastructure projects have been completed. If it wasn't, then I see the giga-coaster (or whatever the next big project is) being built first, then Xcelerator being addressed thereafter, maybe they bring back a modern version of Soapbox Racers in Xcelerators plot of of land to tap into Knott's heritage and add another family ride. Or lastly, with the recent issues Xcelerator has been having, the company is now laser focused on addressing Xcelerator sooner rather than later. Possibly changing plans for the next big coaster at the park, looking at options of layouts if they were to get rid of (or sell) Xcelerator, could they build something in the space that will be equal or better (as you said) than what's leaving. One things for sure, it's needs to be everything Xcelerator wasn't, reliable, high capacity, a known proven model that's beloved by the GP and Coaster Fans alike. If your thinking giga-coaster in its current location, only way that works is if they have a Leviathan like lift hill start from where Xcelerators top hat is located, it'll be fully visible from the freeway (free marketing), it would crest at 300ft at or near where Supreme Scream is (they already have the height permit for that section of the park, Supreme Scream is 310ft tall), and drop would be along the Stagecoach route along the backside of Fiesta Village, as the rest of the layout travels along the perimeter of CAMP Snoopy towards the main entrance, with turnaround on the patch of land that the wooden LED sign currently sits on. The return after that, IDK, this was just an EXTREMELY ROUGH idea to start a brain storm. Personally, I would still have the giga-coaster out back with an expansion of ghost town, and instead of running along Crescent Ave close to residents, I'd route it between the hotel and Ghostrider, around Ghostriders turnaround next to TGI Friday, fly over the guest walkway coming from the tunnel, Treble Clef turnaround in the grassy area across from the main entrance with the led board, no hive dive to save money, instead have the track pass over the guest again, wrap around ghost rider again, camel back over Grand Ave next to ghostrider and another as it enters the backstage road next to the employment center, right turn under the lift hill into a brake run. One can dream 😂 😔 Anyhow, with the park already having an LSM in Monte, the only way I see Xcelerator staying is if they also "reimagine" Xcelerator with a Pantheon, LSM like experience. Sorry for the length and run on sentences.

I think that an LSM launch for xcelerator is kind of unlikely. It not off the table, however the hydraulic launch might be the only launch powerful enough to make the needed amount of speed in that amount of time. Unless they put some pretty nasty lsms into that thing, I believe its going to stay hydraulic for many years to come.

This scares me, because the park clearly needs rides that are reliable, and able to keep up with park demand. Feels like they're putting band aids on something thats proven its not a confidence inducing investment. It's a high risk investment with the only return on investment being that people enjoy it. Other than that, it doesn't serve the growing park attendance, in terms of capacity. But again, people really like it, my self included. But i also see the negatives from a business prospective.

If the LSM works on TTD (assuming this is whats happening) you bet your ass xcelerator will convert to that eventually, even if it is using the hydraulic launch for a while with TTD parts
@tahjo7
@tahjo7 2 жыл бұрын
I made a rough measurement from xcelerators current launch in the station to when the track start to ascend and its rough 275-300ft. If LSM's were installed there's a good chance it could get up to 77mph to make the top hat (i used to work xcelerator, computer says 77-79mph on the launch). But you loose the intensity of the hydraulic launch, while keeping xcelerator, but not as you remember it. While still having a slow moving line, equating to another low capacity line at Knotts. Pros and cons here, the Cons outweighs the Pros

Thank you! Glad you liked the video! Regarding LSMs... I didn't do the numbers. But people did for TTD compared to Red Force and determined that it would be possible for the length of TTD. I know Xcelerator has the stronger launch, so maybe it would need more length. But there's also the option of having them continue up the tophat a little.
@VestedUTuber
@VestedUTuber 2 жыл бұрын
@@AmericasCoasterNetwork Red Force's LSMs should be fine with at most a bit of overclocking. I did the math for Top Thrill Dragster a bit ago and found that 1.3Gs would be plenty if you used the full length of the launch track, with 7.5MW of power per launch if you were wondering. With a hydraulic launch, TTD doesn't use the entire length of its launch track. Xcelerator reaches 82mph but has enough of a launch track to hit 117mph if necessary, and does so with 7.2MW of power per launch.

although this ride is great, the extremely long wait time waiting on 1 train for such a short ride isnt worth it, this ride does have so many memories but can be easily replaced with a more thrilling giga coaster with less down time, the ride is closed 60% of the time I've visited knotts. if it closed it would be missed but a better coaster would make me look the other way.

I was at Knotts 3 and 4 days ago (12/27-28/22). The work seemed to still be ongoing with much construction obvious around Xcellerator. Knotts needs this coaster back, if only for capacity issues, lines topped 3 hours on the 28th, Fast Lane lines approached an hour! After getting 30+ rides on Ghostrider the previous drizzly, cold, near-empty day (27th) I was satisfied to only do coaster photography on the 28th. Is this normal for Knotts? The park should close it's gate at a certain level! Anyway, I do hope Xcelerator is back soon, it's a great fit for the park, especially that area.

they didn't say "ttd will be retired as we know it" The fact that so many people have to reverse the order of what was said to make it fit with what they thing should be the first clue that most people are wrong. The full sentence reads as follows. "The world's first Strata Coaster, Top Thrill Dragster, as you know, is being retired". The "as you know it" is for the GP, as most people do not know what a Strata coaster is. More than half the ride has been removed so far and people are still in denial over it being removed. as for Excelerator, many of TTD's beak fins were removed, and I would think a few of the trains are headed to knotts. And there is not enough room to put LSM on the current layout.

If they’re going to put LSMs in, they better be as fast as that hydraulic launch.
@AmericasCoasterNetwork
@AmericasCoasterNetwork 2 жыл бұрын
They'd have to reach the same top speed, obviously. But I don't think the launch will have that same initial pull. Which would stink because Xcelerator has one of the best launches anywhere.

I would agree lightning rods initial launch was better than the current one and that top ejector air was INSANE not so much now

If they can’t replace the launch system and have to remove the ride. Would be kinda cool to bring back the Soap Box Racers. The ride would be popular on the nostalgia, similar to Berry Tales, and attract a new generation of fans. Plus, it would be open to a wider range of riders besides teenagers and thrill seekers. I love the big coasters, but my daughter hates them. Would be nice to have another ride we can both enjoy. But, that’s just my two cents, and I should probably give change at that.

How so? It was simply showing what was going on. Along with information from sources and touching on some rumors. Without anything official from the park, what else do you expect? The video was very neutral and didn't assume much of anything.

Sorry to burst all y'all's bubbles, but unless LSM manufacturers made some sort of miraculous breakthrough, LSM Xcelerator is not possible. Xcelerator's hydraulic launch absolutely shits on even the most powerful LSMs out there.

What about Red Force?
@ryansullivan3085
@ryansullivan3085 Жыл бұрын
@@AmericasCoasterNetwork Red Force gets to 112 mph in 6 seconds (0.82 Gs of acceleration) whereas Xcelerator gets up to 82 mph in 2.1 seconds (1.78 Gs of acceleration). Meaning: in terms of pure acceleration, Xcelerator's launch is 2.09x as powerful as that Red Force. Just to reiterate: *Red Force's launch is less than HALF as powerful as Xcelerator's.* Hydraulic launches may be unreliable, but they do absolutely *YEET* trains in a manner unparalleled by LSMs.
