This is the eighth or ninth time I have watched this REALLY excellent film and I ALWAYS enjoy it immensely!!!! I am a retired Burlesque performer from Detroit, Michigan and my heyday was in the 1980's and I am ALWAYS grateful to have a romp down memory lane in such exquisite authenticity!!! It was sooo similar to the producers depiction of the late, great era of Broadway n Burlesque that it makes me ever so entrenched in the excitement, humour, camaraderie n gruesome competition that made daily life a thrill to be a part of!!! LOVE it to Death, as Alice Cooper would have said so succinctly!!! Thanks again for making this winner of a film available to me,!!!!

@CCC Thanks for presenting this gem. Very atmospheric which may cause modern day critics and viewers to dismiss it as an outdated flick. Miss Stanwyck was a true star - highly versatile, great dancer (she danced for Flo Ziegfield), good actress, delivered her lines and expressed emotion very well. She dominated the movie but the supporting cast added much to it. The women had all the serious parts and the men mostly had comic roles. Good balance come to think of it. Look forward to your next presentation.

Barbra Stanwyck was one of the most beautiful, elegant & professional actresses ever. She was stunning as the matriarch in the Big Valley television series. She was a great actress & gorgeous woman. An amusing little movie - surprisingly I'd not seen it before. The dance sequences and the costumes were the best parts for me. I also enjoyed reading most of the comments, in particular those made by ex-burlesque performers or their offspring. The explanation for the lack of strong male actors due to WWII was interesting - I had not made the link between the year of production and the unbalanced cast (in terms of quality of actors). Thank you for uploading.

This movie entertains me so much because it is sooo realistic in the atmosphere, the shows, the relationships between the different types of employees, the stage productions, even the raid, of which I was only in one. I wish I could go back there again, to the Harbor Burlesque in Ecorse, Michigan, circa 1988 to 1998. What a GRAND Ol TIme!!!

Being I am a 66 yr old n retired Burlesque dancer from the 1980's, having worked several years at the Harbor Burlesque Theatre in Ecorse, Michigan, I must say I didnt think I would enjoy the colorized version, as most black n whites are at their VERY best in their original format. I do, however, love seeing the costumes n clothes in color!!! Surprise!!! Lol!!! The raid scene was captured TOTALLY truthfully, down to the house lights being rudely brought up as they filed in surrounding the stage n dressing rooms!!! I was actually in only one raid in over 15 yrs of exotic dancing, n I just happened to be the one on stage as the house lights shot up n the music 🎶 abruptly stopped. Our boss took us to jail in taxi cabs instead of limousines, n we got cash bonuses instead of a dinner n a share in the establishment, but it was TOTALLY a scene if deja vu for me, as was this entire movie, putting a smile on my face that did NOT have one previously!!! Wonderfully accurate, diwn to the different personalities of the people I worked with, which made us like a little family!!! It was a beautiful experience!!! Thanks for posting n awakening my treasured memories!!!👍😎✌️🌠🎇🌃🥳🎉🥂

The princess as her character is refered to through out the movie was played by none other Gipsy rose Lee she wrote the screenplay and in a manner of speaking this was her production. But I wonder how many people would have recognised her in the role that she chose she was not very pretty to begin with not like the other women who were playing the other characters, I recognise her because I had seen a photograph of her. My parents had actually met her when the grand dame came to say hello to a friend of my father's who is in the audience of a play that she was planning to see, and that is how they met her.

@chriswilson4112 Жыл бұрын
Well, I've always MEANT to watch this movie. So I'm very grateful that you posted it. Unfortunately, the movie is such a dud. It's strange too because the plot does keep moving along. It's not a slow movie and that usually helps a lot. One thing that certainly didn't help the movie was the leading man. As most movie buffs know, during WWII there was a shortage of the big leading men stars so second stringers got their chance. Most of them didn't add up to a hill of beans. Michael O'Shea is a perfect case in point. Throughout the movie he basically has one approach. The put a smile on your face and just act like you're the coolest, nicest guy in the world. It got old real quick. Think of a Bob Hope type minus the real comic timing and you get O'Shea. So many second stringers in this movie. People literally remind you of bigger stars and you get the feeling that you're watching the second string instead of the A team. Obviously Stanwyck was great. She always was. And as much as I wanted to like the movie, I must say...what a dog. Still it was nice to finally get to see it. Now I understand why this movie is never really talked about in any bio of Stanwyck, except for the obligatory comment of Stanwyck taking the part and being one of the gals, etc. Then they typically move on real quick. Now I understand why. Oh well, you can't blame this poor movie on Stanwyck.
