It's always amusing to see the orchestral members with printed music and the papers memorize everything.

The orchestral musicians play a set of music for a couple of weeks before changing to a new program. Those particular students are probably in 3 or 4 different performing groups so it's not realistic to expect them to memorize short term repertoire. That said, they had a fabulous time supporting the fabulous pipers.

That is one thing I like about playing the pipes - it forces you to learn the music by heart. Good for developing your memory and cognition.

Huh - interesting. I’m an ex-member of the fight crew who did Highlander, Braveheart etc. That was pretty effin close to what we reckon it would have been like. The terrified young’uns get shoved up front, the older battle proven auld gits behind. The Chieftains having to face off for honours-sake (although probably would have been their second/champions first). Not enough hair & far too many clothes tho….
