"Where is Samus storing the missiles?" I've always assumed she wasn't. That it was some kind of replication technology. So she's using a dedicated energy supply to replicate missiles, and when you pick up a missile pack, the capacity of whatever battery or whatever it is is increased.

Agreed. In extension, I always thought that the power-up situation with Metroid was that power-ups are programs that Chozo wrote to convert local radiation to matter. New locations had different radiation, so she lost her power-ups. That's my headcannon, anyway...

Dude, exactly this! Think about how much space her arm takes up inside the cannon. The mechanism for firing charge shots and generating missiles probably leaves just enough space for her arm inside, and a trigger mechanism. I like to imagine that the Missile Expansions increase the ease of reproduction of missiles, which explains the "increased capacity" in each instance. Same implied for the Power Bomb, though it's more of a recharge/cooldown system in Other M, which makes more sense for Power Bombs specifically.

Also, yeah. The instances where Samus primes a physical missile [where you see the tip of it] in the arm cannon (Metroid II commercial, Metroid Dread trailer) is definitely this!

To come to think of it, Samus is kind of a reverse Mega Man. Instead of stealing powers from the enemies, she gets her gear stolen and has to blow them up to regain them.

Metroid Prime 1 and 2 had good reasons. Other M's reason is stupid. Samus: Adam, tell me again why I can't use my super powerful weapons against the monsters that are going to kill me and cause extensive damage to the facility if I don't use my super powerful weapons? Adam: Because I told you, you can't use them! Samus: And why should I listen to you? Adam: Because I'm a man and you are a woman! Therefore, you are going to listen to and obey everything I say! One Christmas I got a GameCube and SSB Melee and that was my first introduction to the Metroid franchise. Then Metroid Prime was released and I had to have it. Then I learned that you can unlock stuff in Metroid Prime by connecting it to Metroid Fusion, so I got a GBA and Metroid Fusion. I loved the game and thought it was very difficult, especially the melty ghost boss.

I liked the direction Fusion gave the player. It allowed it to have more of a plot than previous entries, and mostly relegated exploration to finding extra stuff than needing to blindly figure out where you need to go next for progress. Much as I love the Metroid games, I've never been much a fan of games that don't tell you where you're supposed to go next, regardless of how much freedom it gives you in approaching that goal.

Oooh. This is a game I would love to see a full playthrough of. Honestly, this is also the first Metroid game I played, so I have a lot of nostalgia for it. When I got a GBA when it first game out, Metroid Fusion was the first game I got for it. Up until then I'd actually been more a Sega Kid, but after Sega things kinda fell bad after the Genesis I switched to Nintendo. And no Metroid came out on the N64, so Super Smash Bros was my first introduction to Samus. Then when the GBA and Metroid Fusion came out I managed to get both.

SA-X was pretty creepy. Nightmare was pretty creepy. But personally, I found the Security Spider Bot the most terrifying. You can hear it banging around in the sector. It cuts off your routes and destroys doors. When you fight it, it's a genuinely challenging battle. You beat it the first time... then it comes back with a mutated brain!!

I just played it for the first time a couple days ago, along with Zero Mission. I personally enjoyed Zero Mission a bit more, but Fusion is still a great game that you should totally check out. (Don't feel bad about emulating it.)

I loved this game growing up. I loved the gameplay of Zero more but having an X clone of you wandering around the station was so cool and tense. Somewhere between the two would probably be a perfect Metroid I'd imagine.

I remember playing this on the 3DS ambasador Program (which I accidentally lost) and it was a good experience, though I prefer Zero Mission. Now, since Jared mentioned Samus' personality, I know some would think of Other M and, to those, I would like to recommend you a video called "The Other M We Never Got" which dissects and show how the translation of Other M from Japanese to English was botched to the point of even eliminating important pieces of information that were actually important (like how certain boss got form Other M to Fusion) and I'm recommending the video because of the abyssmal views it got. Other than that, best wishes everyone

Metroid's always been one of those series that I never got around too. I had Prime 1 when I was a kid but hardly got anywhere in it. I've always liked what I've seen of the series through let's plays and streams and what not, and this is the first time I've ever seen Fusion so I'm pretty excited!

Just letting you know I'm into this! ... also, I remember this being short, and of course a bit more linear than other entries, but it makes up for it with the spoopy atmosphere, the ever-present search for secret power-ups, absolutely insanely good sound design and general aesthetics, and actually really tight and interesting battles and controls. It's a very solid entry into the series, and it's got a lot of personality. Looking forward to the rest!
