The stairs you went up and than sat down on a bench is a really dangerous area. The robbers all gather in the alley ways over there. I asked my guide to bring me these grimey places when we went to te market hahahah😂 He warned me keep your Phone in your pocket and pockets closed.

I felt alright but then I always exercise caution in crowds wherever I am, although when I was sat on that bench I unknowingly had a note hanging out of my bag (caught when I zipped it up) and a young lad must have been 17/18 tapped my shoulder and said "hey bro, your money". So maybe I was lucky that an honest lad caught it and not one of the robbers you mentioned.

There is a Standard Chartered at Turntable Brusubi at the petrol station...you don't have to go all the way to Senegambia

Yeah we went to that one when the Senegambia one didn't work one of the days. However the Senegambia one was easier for us.

Would you go to this market alone or is a guide recommended for safety reasons?

I would definitely be alright going alone (although I'd maybe get lost in the labyrinth). There are massive crowds in very tight and narrow areas though so as with any crowded area anywhere, it would be wise to keep your things in zipped up pockets/bag just as a precaution.

The oranges are not a diff colour to the uk 😂😂 they don’t peel them as much as we do so there is a lot of rind still left on the orange

He's a friend, not a professional guide. We met through his relative who I actually work with at home in the UK.

I suppose it was quite expensive for Gambia, but at least I know it wasn't just for me as you approach the fish counter and the prices for each fish are written on scraps of paper beside them. I was on holiday so oh well!

@@maxinewynter1733 It was a pretty popular restaurant with the locals. You have to know about it because there is no signage or anything on the building so there weren't any tourists on either of the times I visited.
