To be fair, the 90/10 was an effort to solve one issue but they didn't solve a different issue. 90/10 is to prevent meme voters and bots from stealing the vote, which happened in the Steam Awards. However, the other issue TGA didn't solve is judge biases. It is pretty obvious the many of the judges are from questionable firms and, the way I see it, they are using TGA to declare war against the gaming community. In my opinion, they were very strategic on how they were voting because I notice that some of the major categories have Sony games that won while giving Wukong a win to reduce suspicion or pity points.

While one could say TLOU2 should've won at least something but to win 7 different rewards and telling people there wasn't a clear bias is straight up BS because the game clearly wasn't well recieved enough by the audience but the critics did like it which is why it won so many rewards.

For me Wukong was my Nr. 1 and then Metaphor. Im not super mad about Astrobotti winning , but next to these two it shouldnt have won. That being said, the GotY Awards really shouldnt be this important because few people decide who wins what and as we once again saw there is bias/agenda. Imo the only reason Wukong didnt win is simply because its China. Another thing i noticed, which is sad is that people now aggressively shit on Asobi and spread hate. Dont blame the devs in Japan. I only watch to see what new trailer drops we might get. As for awards I wasn't surprised as FAQ on TGA website says, "Winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%)." You could have a 100% public vote wanting one thing but in simplified terms its still ends up being just 1 Public vote to 9 Jury votes. Might also make sense why Wukong can win Player's Voice being 100% Public Vote but yet still lose GOTY. TGA has never been a Viewer's Choice awards but more a TGA's Opinions awards similar to how different magazines release their own "Sexiest Man Alive" tier lists every year lol

For me, its expectations I somehow built up, that turned into a let down. I never beat any of the witcher games(tried witcher 2) but heard a lot of good things about them so i wanted witcher 4 to be my entry into the series, I was really hoping it would be like cyberpunk(create your own witcher) or at the very least new main characters. I still haven't touched god of war yet because i want to play the ogs first, and i might do the same for witcher 4 and put it on the back burner, especially with so many other good games on the horizon. Just too many games to play and too little time lol.

Gonna be blunt: the 3 Personal choice games shouldn't have been nominated to begin with imo. As for why it's simple: 1st there's far better non gacha games that released this year (Indie, B tier, A tier, AA tier, and AAA tier) that are far better in gameplay, story, world building, characters, exploration, etc than any of the 3 gachas that were nominated (Trails through Daybreak and Ys 10 for example (these are tied for my goty...tied for now as I'm still on Ys but it's on par with Daybreak so far) as well as Unicorn Overlord, FFVIIR part 2, Wukong, Metaphor, and Granblue Relink (granted this last ones a spinoff of a gacha...god if they remade the entire GB story as a non gacha console/PC game series that'd have been awesome) and then 2nd most people voting for these gacha games are NOT voting them due to them thinking they're the best games of the year, they're voting them in hopes of getting pulls if said gacha game wins which imo is NOT a good reason to vote a gacha as GotY. Wukong was the right pick that list imo (especially as on top of the arguments against gacha games above I also don't feel like ER dlc should've been up for anything as in order to play it you NEED the base game in order to play and understand the story...if the dlc is completely standalone like say Xeonblade 2 and 3's prequel dlcs that you can also buy and play without the base games then maybe I could see an argument for them being valid and probably get behind said argument especially if the dlc is at least about 20 hours plus long. Player's choice should've been Wukong and 4 of the other non gacha/dlc games I mentioned above. Now as for best mobile I can see why people may be a bit more pissed with that but Balatro is, by definition, a mobile game and the mobile game award awards it to the best mobile game, not gacha games (there are games on mobile that are not gacha as well, Balatro is one of them) and given how popular poker is it will easily hit the larger casual audiences...tbh I'm surprised candy crush clones aren't nominated and win each year as they technically would be mobile games too and there's always at least a few of those made each year. As for announcements there wasn't really anything I card much about tbh with the most interesting being the Pac-Man Souls Metroidvania game, Onikami sequel, and maybe the DFO games and that's about it. There was no real single player non gacha anime style jrpg like Dragon Quest/Tales/Persona/Ys/etc that would've hyped me up...thankfully TGS gave me at least 3 games for 2025 (Trails through Daybreak 2, Tales of Graces F remaster (granted I got it when it came out on PS3 so it's not a new experience for me but will be fun to play on Switch handheld when I don't feel like being at the TV/computer and want to lay down in bed to play something), and Trails in the Sky 1 Remake and probably 2 to 4 I'm forgetting besides them).

I think Astro Bot winning was better overall for the gaming community. Even the head of the company came up and essentially took a dig at Sony, the company they WORK FOR and gave a shoutout to Nintendo (without actually name dropping them, but you know who he was talking about, it was very obvious). The reason for this I believe, was to send a message, the gaming world has kinda been terrible lately with all the layoffs, shutdown companies and so on. When a company like Tango almost gets shutdown after they made a banger like Hi-Fi Rush, that's terrible. Astro Bot didn't do stereotypical Sony numbers, but it was a very good (albeit, from what I've heard) game that is simple, isn't trying to nickel and dime the consumer and is just plain fun. It's a game that's just trying to be fun and we need more games like that and I think that's the message being sent to big companies.

On Balatro it was a PC game at first and after about 1 year the developer ported it on mobile. It is a roguelike with a loose poker ruleset. I got way too many hours on that game. On Astro Bot, that game was very popular amongst the main stream game reviewers, and for a good reason as well. That game is pure bliss to play man, it is a great family game. As you said throughout the video and at the end, gatcha has somewhat brain rotted you in terms of gaming. Yes you are getting the bag and that is great, however it can still affect you even if the reason you are playing them is mostly financially incentivised. All in all, if you can distance yourself from gatcha and still get the bag, that would be the best possible option. Maybe that second channel could be for variety games and not only monster hunter.

I always watch TGA with my friends in my home with drinks and BBQ, its a blast seeing announcements and talking about the winners. Astro Bot isnt as bad as people think, but winning was pretty weird. Ballatro and Wukong nuking gachas was the best. People waking up against predatory schemes of gacha and live service games was way overdue. I'm glad mainstream gamers are quitting them so the industry can focus on proper games.

Balatro winning Mobile GOTY did not make me upset because it won, its because it won so many awards (that award section alone was 2 or 3 back to back wins for them). That said, undeniable that gacha games are slop so its not completely unfair. I was just hoping for WuWa specifically because its combat is good. But that alone is probably not a reason. Astro Bot winning GOTY tho, no one convincing me that was not because of being paid / having an agenda against Wukong (I think ff7 just got hit for being a remake). The only thing good about TGA(for me) was just Onimusha reveal. I cannot explain how happy i was when i saw Onimusha there man, i still remember the days when onimusha 3 stole my heart and made me play every other onimusha + all capcom games in general which made me love capcom overall. Special mention to witcher4(miss geralt but ciri is fine too), elden ring(for obvious reasons) and FINALLY Split fiction cuz i absolutely love every other games of the same developer (brothers, a way out, it takes two are all peaks)

It's actually crazy ZZZ did not show off the trailer that mentions Harumasa is free. Balatro is a very fun mobile roguelike themed around Poker. It heavily benefits from people that don't play video games because of the Poker theme and ease of access on mobile, on top of genuinely being a well designed game. Astro Bot was actually massive but did get overshadowed by Black Myth: Wukong, but the chinese fanbase for this game really carried that to insane levels. Lets also not forget that Astro Bot is being compared to Mario Galaxy(One of the more inovative Mario games) if not being praised as better than Mario Galaxy. It's also seeping with Playstation nostalgia. You get help from a bunch of different Classic Playstation characters as you go through the game. Basically it's like surprise, Sony actually finally made a really good first party platformer in the style of Mario. It's not my type of game, I'd have had Shadow of the Erdtree win. Bro that 40 dollar DLC goes way harder than most full games.

Wasn't Onimusha supposed to be essentially a Sengoku period Resident Evil? I haven't played Onimusha yet (I have the first one on Steam), but I'm not sure if I'd attribute Onimusha as an origin of sorts to action games. And the releases for Onimusha and DMC were only 7 months apart. I'll have to play the game at some point myself to be sure, but any gameplay of it I've seen and from what I've heard people say of it, it seems more akin to a RE game rather than its own entire thing like with DMC.

That is for GOTY, as for best mobile game.. eh actually tried Balatro today after seeing it mentioned on game awards, out of curiosity and man.. that's the kind of game where once you start, you forget about time 💀lmao. Has fine replayability, it's like a roguelike game but with cards, certainly a lot of stuff to do and I can see why many people would like that over a gacha game where you log in for 5-10mins for dailies and log out until some new event/version drops 💀 (I do play zzz, hsr and wuwa too). Also totally agree with what you said at 13:00 lmao, I do love the bunch of gachas I play but I can absolutely not defend them saying they're better or good in general when compared to triple A games or other casual games, it's all about the cinematics, graphics and waifus but that's all there is to it, it's like you can watch but you can't touch, very limited options and stupid expensive if one is truly invested into them enough to step out of f2p zone

The fact that Black Myth : Wukong won players choice , dispite 3 terminally online gacha communities , hungry as shit for and voting to get ingame rewards , shows class can still beat greed . There is also ofc the Golden Joystick : Ulimate Game Of The Year award show (a way more gamer voted award show , that gets a bit less attention , because of not as many hype trailers and big announcements sadly) What won that? , well go and see... The results got me disapointed considering it started during night where I live, so lost a night waiting and watching it for.. unexpected results.. gacha not winning was fine as people pointed out its maybe for the best, but I got disapointed on other things.. Arcane not winning is crazy even as a Fallout fan.. BMW should have won.. this was criminal.. Astro bot.. maybe the game is great not denying that but as people pointed out too many never even heard ot it.. and Balatro.. good for the dev because its an Indie game that won against big studios which such a huge player base, most likely cause player votes dont matter much, but again as you say its deserved so fine This was still nice watching your live getting some opinion on games I didnt know, see some games I may be interested in Wuwa and HSR teasers ... a bit meh.. I expected huge stuff but I think they gave everything they had before, they both had so many characters and a new region revealed

Actually.. people slamming on TGA giving Astro Bot the win haven't played that game. 😅 I played the OG Astro Bot in PSVR1 before. It ended up my main game that I played over dozens of hours. I remembered many posts of VR players were disappointed that their new game doesn't have PSVR2 support. If the mechanic in the 2024 game is the same now, Astro Bot definitely deserves the win. Some people are brushing that game aside because it doesn't have open world, cool-looking characters or cinematics.. and they called themselves "gamers". 😂

Yes Smack. Astro Bot did make the waves because people were genuinely surprised at how amazing the game is. Saying you haven't heard people talk about Astro Bot is such a bad argument because people can turn around and say the same thing about Wukong. I understand if its not your game and thats okay but Astro Bot is true to form, nothing but joy and a celebration of gaming platformer. If you ever decide to play it, you might see it. Even if you dont that's okay, but give it the respect it desrves because IT DID deserve to win GOTY just like any game that was nominated deserves to win. Astro bot just came out on top and thats just how it is.

It barely had a 80...and it definitely wasn't better than elden ring or ff7r Making waves by hype and being good are completely separate things. Game was cool, wasn't goty at all.
