Sold! I am getting this. Now I'm off to Kickstarter to fund the heck out of this.

what would be mind blowing is if you could take lots of these frames and combo them in to a huge pixel display like maybe 256 x 256 and then playing downsample clips on it
@WiZeR91111 жыл бұрын
Jeremy you need to create a community around this product. People sharing pixel art and making their own mods and variations, etc.

People who've never made a custom project and are used to cheap electronics probably don't understand, but It is very reasonably priced. You could build it yourself for slightly less but you'd have to track down all the parts and it would not end up looking as good as game frame looks. Ordering small (

And injection molding the grid that makes it look rad is also crazy expensive, although you could probably make something comparable by hand, if you took enough time.

13:40 Does it work with horizontal film strip files too? Someone please answer! If it does work, than I'm pretty much sold on the game frame. If it doesn't, could someone point me in the direction of a GIF to vertical film strip converter?
@truckrally10 жыл бұрын
Also, it seems it´s an addressable LED-strip, they should have power connected from more that one place, it seems it´s only plugged in in one end, in that case, the last LED:s at for example white light, might be yellowish instead.

What's an easy and free way to convert a 1920x1080 or 1280x720 video to a 16x16 image sequence? and, once I have that image sequence, how would I have it play at the same speed that the original video did?

Vern Meyer actually, it is, there is a lot of open source projects just like this one, and a led matrix doesnt costs more than 20 dollars to be made, the pcb cant be more than 30 dollars to be made at an eletronics shop too, so you are paying 200 bucks for a box filled with rgb leds and a pcb, that normaly would cost 50 bucks, so you are paying 150bucks for a software that is almost the same as A LOT of other open source ones that costs nothing, yeah, its way overpriced, cool project, but the price is ridiculous, the guy is nuts
@Kuroi11 жыл бұрын
people should do their research, just search a little bit about led matrix prices on ebay, take a look at the price the eletronics shop is wanting for the pcb and search the internet for about 5 minutes to find open source projects, save 150 bucks
@dacasman11 жыл бұрын
What about the arduino? What about the material and the labor it takes to build and do all the electronic work like soldering not to mention programming the thing? Maybe if this thing was mass produced my some toy company or something it would be cheaper, but these are hand made.
@Kuroi11 жыл бұрын
exactly. nothing more than 50 dollars, hand made? anyone can hand make these at home, just a little bit of time and dedication, they ARE overpriced, 150 bucks just cause the guy had the job of puting all togheter? for gods sake, i will make you a 12 bucks burguer and you will pay me 300 bucks cause i put it all together ok?

My moneys, you have them. I know you mentioned that it will come with a limited set of animations, but is there a way to have hundreds (if not thousands) of animations loaded in off a USB drive? Would also love a mod/expansion to have it web-enabled so it could connect to an online community/arcive like eboy and get new animations daily. I think one of my Raspberry Pis may just get incorporated into this.

I REALLY love this concept but I think that it is way too expensive for what it is. 265$ for only one unit shiped internationaly? It is just absurd, I got the Oculus Rift for 50 bucks more. I was highly tempted to buy it after the video, I hope the price drops significantly after the Kickstarter ends. I'd pay 20$-30$ for it happily, maybe up to 50$, but nothing near the price that it currently has. It is a shame really. I'm sure it is costly for him to assemble them by hand but I'm sure that he would do great if he took a bigger risk. Hire a couple manufacturers or make them in china... It seems that there's a huge market out there for this things, it looks like a profitable endevour. But he'll get nowhere if the keeps charging that much. Sure, there are some cheaper alternatives out there but they aren't near the quality of this product. He has 100.000$ from the backers for God's sake! Do something with the money!
