GRRM hates using deus ex machina as plot armor. It figures once D&D were in charge of their own story the show is now filled with the stuff. Every scene should not be fan service. There needs to be motivations, stakes and consequences. Instead we get zombie polar bears. Instead we get Jon Snow trying to yell at Viserion while a miraculous moment/plot convenience of Arya teleporting behind the NK occurs.

I agree that the episode was a huge disappointment but I think the part with Jon snow where he screams at Viserion is totally okay. After trying so much to reach the NK and rescue Bran I believe it was a moment of frustration as Jon Snow knew he won't make it anymore. He screamed at Viserion because of anger and frustration and maybe also because of him having to accept the fact that he failed. But still, I do not agree with that Lebron James jump from Arya to finish the NK.

GRRM has repeatedly said that the show WAS relatively faithful as long as the show had the books to lie back on. However, since the show has long passed the books in the storyline, the show is now more or less completely independent. GRRM has said the exact opposite of what you state, he says that the books will not have the exact same ending as the series. He has only given DD some overarching pointers of roughly where he sees the books going. Considering how the ending of the show is panning out with the same old tropes about evil for the sake of evil and plot armor etc. I am 100000% certain that George will end the books completely differently because he has spoken out against fantasy tropes and said that a his writing will be different.

@@freecitizen911 it's not really about the actual ending, it's about the small stuff, the way things happen, dialogue, the amount of time that passes between various scenes and events, how much food and resources and soldiers each group has left. GRRM is very good at keeping track of these things, hes very good at building things up slowly or quickly and knowing when he is justified in making someone or some situation change quickly. Personally my problem with the show is that they are not as skilled at writing dialogue and keeping track of these background details and small details which add up to cause inconsistencies and create situations in which characters seem like they are not doing what they are doing in a way that makes sense in general or for their character. Also, while GRRM could project into the future and guess that the show would be considerably similar to the book, the show has bot had any finalized source material to work off of in years so things like dialogue which in earlier seasons were good because they came from the books, are losing quality.

I mean, to be fair, I can see GRRM making that information not amount to anything in world. The reveal might be used in the interest of Jon's personal character arc, but I doubt he'll end up on the throne or anything like that. I suspect GRRM hates characters like Aragorn and the trope that the long lost heir eventually becomes king at the end so everyone can live happily ever after. Pretty sure he has explicitly criticised that trope before.

To be fair, they did assume George would be able to finish the series especially with the pressure from HBO. Not to say they aren't responsible for this dumpster fire, but adapting an already written story is miles easier than trying to emulate the style of an experienced author.
