I remember this one vividly. The Jaguars started the season 0-8, and legitimately looked like the worst team in NFL history. At one point, the Broncos were favored by four touchdowns over them. Every game in the first half of the season was decided by double digits. After four possessions against the 49ers, the 49ers led 28-0. And then, the Jags somehow rattled off wins in four of their next five games. Chad Henne to Cecil Shorts in the back of the end zone is etched into my memory. Josh Gordon is one of the more sad stories in recent times. The guy had so many chances to redeem himself yet he was more interested in lighting up the doobie. That said, the policy regarding weed is backwards as hell as was the US' enforcement of laws against weed usage. Nonetheless Gordon had the kind of talent that could've seen him as a near HOF type. Josh Gordon had the skills and the physical gifts to become one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. It's hard to say he could've been better than Rice because a big part of Rice's legacy is his longevity, and we have no idea if Gordon could've played at a high level for 20 years. But as far as pure receiving skill, I think Josh Gordon was as good as anybody to ever play in the NFL...and that includes Jerry Rice. That is what makes Josh Gordon's career so unbelievably sad. He absolutely threw away a HOF career AT THE MINIMUM! All because he liked drugs more than he liked money. Josh Gordon easily would've made $100,000,000+ over the course of his career if he had stayed sober...then he could've spent the rest of his life smoking and shooting that $100,000,000 away in the comfort of a huge mansion. Instead he torpedoed his career so quickly that I doubt he even made 1/10th of $100,000,000. I know that there were several pro athletes who died young and never reached their full potential, but Josh Gordon is absolutely one of the most egregious cases of wasted potential in the entire history of pro sports. His NFL career is now over as he's been permanently banned from the league for his 5,000 different failed drug tests. He's been relegated to playing for the "Zappers" in the Fan Controlled Football League.

@@0ptimal Frankly, I find it disgusting that the NFL has even let the dude back in again. I believe in second chances for MOST things (not VIOLENT crimes), and that includes getting fired from your job for using drugs...especially when the drug use doesn't seem to affect your performance one bit. But this has got to be like Josh Gordon's 57th chance at this point. It's beyond ridiculous. I know how tough drug addiction can be (especially because I am almost certain that with Josh Gordon, we are NOT just talking about "weed"), but Gordon had access to the best treatment centers on Earth when he was in the NFL. As a Browns fan, I KNOW that the organization did everything they possibly could to try and help him...and he rejected that help and abused that trust EVERY SINGLE TIME! He shouldn't be rewarded anymore.
