Space Engineers is the single most important gift I was ever given. This game literally saved my life. Not in the "I'm going to KMS! OH WAIT SPACE ENGINEERS." way. But by turning my "I'm a failure and don't want to live." thoughts into "I have something to offer the world."

From SE i realize the true spirit of engineering. Not to obey the common knowledge and follow a common easy path, but to understand the mechanics and exploit it to make something beautiful, AND FUNCTIONAL!

This is what I'm talking about. The game wants you to exploit its physics. Build your own prophecy. Engineer your own mind. Conduct pure creativity. Your limits are what you set, and the boundaries are your ability to learn (And your pc strength).

I had big mental health problem and i think people having big mental health problems these days are the most sain people on earth, how could we not have big depression issues at some points of our life in that kind of world we live in. I learned how to live with it and i am kind of good with who i am now, someone who enjoy simple things, who have not many friends but reallly good friends and want to see the few people i love happy. I'm next to 30 years old now and video games have definitly changed my life and are my biggest passion. I encountered my best friend on a video game called SCUM, after 6 months we met in real life and he came to my place and since then we speak mostly every day. Video games are a safe exit from the real world where people who are not familiar with it think that we are loosing our life, that it is not real, just a virtual world with virtual life but i definitly forged my biggest friendships over the years on video games, and they helped me so much to deal with my problems in a sain way, like a meditation kind of way. Great video games maked by passionnate people are really a POWERFUL anti-depressing tool. It connects people all around the world to a common goal. I never played Space Engineers but i understand what your're talking about. Hope you the best from France ! ;)

Theo, you are not a failure. I am very sure you have a lot to offer to our world, you just gotta find your "thing". That could be anything, anything that you are passionate about, go for it. For example, I used to feel just like you. A complete failure but once I found my passion, I went for it and I am really happy now. My passion is to help people and save lives, so I volunteered in the emergency services. Volunteering is also a really good way to gain experience and find your passion.

SE is definitely my favorite game, and it is wonderful that it has helped you so much. I'm over 2000 hours into it, and still feel I have much to learn... but also that I can accomplish almost anything I set my mind to. I hope SE, and other things in your life, help you to keep moving forward. Thank you for sharing your experiences and your vulnerabilities. Others need to hear things like that, so that they know that they are not alone. Keep on engineering!

To start with, I have to say that when this video came up in my autoplayer in full screen, I instantly assumed it was from some great content creator with thousands of subscribers and views. When I looked at your channel name and saw the numbers next to it, I couldn't believe it. The passion with which you have created this video and many others that I am watching on your channel are inspiring. I love seeing how other people enjoy space engineering in such a profound way. It is a game that fulfills the premise with what I have always wanted but I feel that sometimes I am alone playing it. I appeal to anyone who wants to start a survival game with me. Thank you for this video and for inspiring a lot of people to play this game.

I never really thought about this game in that way. It came into my life quite a long time ago, I watched series from other people made in this game and hoped that someday I would have a computer powerful enough to at least run this game. And now, I've been playing it for a few years now, I've found a lot of good people in this community, and one of them has even become my best friend. You know the butterfly effect, when you change one event in the past and the whole world changes. Now I finally realized how many things in my life might not have happened if I hadn't met this man that very day, three years ago. Not only did Space Engineers save my life, it also inspired me to do many things and made me a beautiful, confident and motivated person. I owe KSH what I have now and am very grateful to those developers. I've been sad, cursed, disappointed, told I hated this game many times, but it's all because I was able to experience so many different emotions in it, because those emotions can show up in it. I was about twelve years old when I first saw this game. Now I'm almost nineteen. A third of my life I've known this game, its capabilities and community have educated me. That's who I am now, and I'm glad for that more than anything. I've built so many great builds, written several scripts, made KZbin videos, experienced many events with friends in hundreds of different worlds. I have now played over 5,000 hours. This game inspired me to write a book and one day it will come out.

You said it, Brother! I bought Space Engineers in April 2014. To date I have logged over 11,000 hours. In that time I have never built a battle ship or carrier or anything like that. I built a fighter once. Everything I have worked on is mining related. It is so much fun to build things that are actually FUNCTIONAL. The more complicated, the better. Nothing works the first time. Or the second. Or the third. But on that seventeenth time after all the modifications and re-thinking it actually works! When it does it looks SO COOL! But, YOU DID IT! That feeling of accomplishing a job well done is like no other. (Well, maybe ONE other 😉) You learn so much in the process. You end up thinking like an engineer. Mostly, it just makes you think. That's rare for a video game.

Bro, you shouldn’t let others define who you are. If you have, do or something that makes you happy then don’t let anyone take that. Your past builds your future and you’ve been a bunch examples of what not to do now that information. It’s not about what your past did to you, it’s about what you will do with your future. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger but only if you let it. If you dwell on past regrets they will continue to hold you back. Let it go it does not help it will only hinder. I can’t say much more without being redundant so I’ll finish with this; you need to stand on your own two feet I admit I don’t know your whole story but I do know this you can’t let the opinions and toxicity of be your only guide.

Great video, I have similar mental health problems. The game that saved me was Elite Dangerous. When I had no escape from my awful life gaming was my only refuge, the only thing that could break my negative thought patterns. If I hadn't had that escape, and was left with just my relentless thoughts of self hatred, abandonment and hopelessness I would have taken my life a while ago. I battle mental illness everyday, all day. I don't always, but I don't always lose either. That's enough for me, for now. I truly wish you the best, and thanks for sharing your struggles

Coming from KSP, I found a new realm and a new challenge in SE. The degree of self-efficacy one can gain from these kind of games is priceless and lifesaving in some cases. Everyone can achieve something due enginuety and creativity. Or just play randomly, aimless just for fun. Meeting like-minded, dream together, plan, draft and execute whatever ideas emerge. These kind of games are gold. all the best bro

Hello fellow engineer. I love SE so much because it has so much potential. I have been doing all I cab to promote it. I at 1 point planned on doing videos myself, but my PC cant handle recording the game well enough to provide the quality I want. But that didnt stop me. I now have my own server and plan to launch it in crossplay hopefully on the launch day for SE on PSN. I have met many different rypes of people from all over the world and formed an alliance of factions. We have been refered to as the NATO of SE due to our drive to stop toxic players from ruining everyones fun. This endevor of mine has helped me. There has only ever been 1 game I love as much as SE, and that would be Armored Core, a game that taught me that no matter how much I beleive I have left to give, I can still reach greater hights. Se rekindled what I once lost, and now I am back to being the leader I once was. My mental issues still make it hard at times, but SE can always seem to bring me back to who I am as a person. I congradulate you on finding what you once lost and I look forward to meeting you in person some day (if we havent already)

I used to build on an anarchy Terraria server, where everything was basically fucked. spawn was unbearable, usually an empty void. But i built in that void for whatever reason the most passionate builds ive ever made and even tho some troll decided to destroy it, i just made another one. Why i did that i didnt know up until this video and especially the speech at 4:13. it finally made sense for me. i did it cause it made me feel like im putting life into this void, with people gathering around and admiring my cause, while having a fun time. I also played Space engineers really frequently and its still one of my favorite games of all time. it also brought me through some hard times and im really glad it also did for you

Almost the same situation. Space engineers is like a life tutorial. Everything you build is down-top. Everything big stems from small things. Every time you build something new you need to start from scratch. And everything you ever consider your home or your favorite thing is was always something novel at some point. It's never a game over. Every time it's a new mountain to climb. I thing SE taught me to let go and embrace change. But in the end it all comes from within. SE was just a final push. We all have great living power of our direct ancestors who flourished despite all hardships for 3.5 billion years straight.

If this game didn’t have the blueprint mechanic it would be *so much* more punishing. The fact that you can save every build of yours and rebuild it across saves is so handy. Not only does it mean if you lose a build it’s not totally over you can always rebuild, but if you don’t really feel like designing a new ship, you can always print one of your old ones. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve printed a welding ship I know works rather than designing a new one from scratch.

Its an amazing game it has brought joy into my life and its the only thing I can think if just as much as my other priorities I think of. Me experimenting with new designs and building ships in Space Engineers is basically a hobby now and its very therapeutic. it has helped me cope with stupid crap in my life and I am willing to put 300 more hours into SE because of it.

I know things get hard but the feeling you get of "I have something to offer the world" is true, you have offered 36,000 people a well thought out high quality video with truth and words that are what people need to hear. I have always searched for creative games like Scrap Mechanic, Trailmakers, KBS, instruments of destruction and so on, to let me have that feeling of accomplishment. I can almost never find that in video games, but this video you have created has said exactly what I need in a game. Thank you

Keen is absolutely right about the need to create. SE has no story, really basic NPC and a vastly empty world but still it has a solid and steadily growing player base even after 10 years, something most other devs just can dream about. I don't know what it is but this is the only game i have, that i regulary play since almost 10 years, no other game managed to do this. And i thik now, with the Automaton update, it just starts to take off.

I think Space Engineers helped me a lot too. Girlfriends come and go, and they take a piece of me away with them every time. Space Engineers kind of allows me to put my brain back together. When the Event Controller and AI blocks came out, I was happier than I have been in many years. Funny to think how important a game can be. For me Space Engineers is a masterpiece, and was already my absolute favorite 8 years ago when I discovered it. Since I started competing in build offs I have won 4 free copies of the game, and given them away to my friends, and made many friends playing in survival servers, and in discords. I met a real beauty community that keeps me looking forward to each session. When I finish building a sweet ship, or develop some new tricks, I get a nice sense of accomplishment because I could help my faction. I like finding smart solutions to the many challenges to unpredictable warfare. Or even just making a snazzy airtight small grid door that connects with hinges and merge blocks because I can. There is literally no wrong way to play. KSH has given us a paintbrush and each grid is like a brush stroke, each server is like a shared canvas, and it's evolving creativity that isn't rivaled by any other game in my opinion.

@@Issacthechaosgod That is really fucked up! Brain surgery is genuinely terrifying and I cannot imagine how that was! For me I had an abusive alcoholic father when I was younger before my mom kicked him out and then was absolutely toxic towards me and my brother. Sister was abusive and manipulative I got beaten up in school (Always fought back regardless, and always got punished more because the other guy ended up in a worse state than I did) Rapist babysitter Had no friends until 2018 And was cheated/abused on by over a dozen different girls.. some of which I first tried dating at my current school but they shared my messages and I was laughed at. Perhaps one day in the future, we can all be space engineers. The biggest challenge I have in SE to keep playing is a regular player base. I don't have others to play with. So Theo, if you ever want to play, send me a DM and I'll hop on and play whatever your preference. We are all here for each other.

Space Engineers pushes me to be creative. And I'm not the most creative person. In the last few days, I've designed a thruster nacelle based off the blueprint of a ship I downloaded a long time ago. The rest of the ship, well, that's definitely a work in progress. But I have ideas, and that's the main thing.

the space engineers community as a whole (even the hard asses in some servers) are fantastic people and are willing to help at a moments notice. unless your on opposite teams that is. ive been with SE since it first came out and looking back on how it went from a simple sandbox to a monster epic of game that has mechanics that even KSH said they might not do but did any has been a massive treat. many say the dlc for the game is locking things behind a pay wall, but thats only certain things and mostly skins. I find paying 5 bucks for a piece of dlc that will give me hours more entertainment valuable beyond reason. not only that but the dlc has been making me disable multiple mods. i was originally using 3 or 4 weapon packs now im down to one and some mods have been removed completely

All I will say is that there is a reason space engineers is my single most played game on steam right now at well over 3 thousand hours and counting, it’s good to improve on yourself. and it has helped me escape personal problems of my own.

i've always been bothered by the way you can place a thruster or gyro anywhere on a grid, but it acts through the center of mass

empyrion does have structual integrity that needs say.. a support to the ground at a certain dinstance from the last one.. but.. it doesnt have rotors, pistons, hinges or timer blocks it doesnt have physics the same way SE does you cant even roam your ship when its travelling SE wins every time

That's true only for thrusters. Gyros are more effective towards the center of mass of a grid.

hey bro, it's okay. it's okay to feel weak, it's okay to hurt, it's okay to not be okay. But remember that you're not alone, okay? We're all here for you because you're a wonderful person and (even if I don't know you really well) I'm sure that you deserve to be happy and to feel better. I'm sorry that you had to suffer this much in the past, but these "scars" you have in your soul make you stronger and a better person. Talking about my personal experience, space engineers has also helped me to "keep going" because, as you said in the video, it "boosted" me to use my creativity and my mind to make something cool and to have fun with other people. I discovered how much I really love space and how much time I can spend just looking at the stars, lol. Besides all of this, I promise that everything is going to be okay❤ don't give up!

I've put 1113 hours into this game, the way I always describe it is "minecraft with spaceships" I wouldn't really call it an engineering game unless you mod it to be so but it's definitely a very fun in between point for non-engineers to make cool shit themselves without having to study for it or follow a tutorial step by step as tends to happen in some more complex games

Pretty badass. I agree, often I feel artistically and intellectually stagnated. In those times the thought of deletion gets pretty fucking loud. I cannot think of a game that has stimulated those aspects of my personality as much as SE. I am pretty shitty at the devs for the online only stuff, I personally see it as stealing from the customer. But I cannot deny what the game gave me before all that happened.

I love the game too, and sorry you've had bad relationships. But ultimately you're responsible for your actions, not your mom. Deciding to never harm yourself and having the discipline to stick to it might not seem easy, but it is. Get some hobbies outdoors, stay off of social media, and don't forget what your purpose is on Earth. It's definitely not to off yourself when life gets rough. Hang in there but most of all do something that will be good for you in the long term, like learning something new, visiting new places, hiking to new sites, and just keep on doing those things. Eventually you'll look back on weaker moments in the past and you'll feel amazing about how hard you worked and how far you came.

@Issacthechaosgod I got it in 2020 and played it for a week and stopped lol I tried again 2 months ago and yeah, probably like alot of ppl like me, can't put it down. I'm on Xbox and it was really hard for me to figure out the controls let alone the technical side of this game. But once you do figure something out and it works, it is VERY satisfying. Whereas you play other games and figure something out it's like "ok cool" , definitely not as gratifying as this game. Loved your vid btw. Takes alot of courage to talk about that stuff on the internet. I'm glad you found something to fight your demons😊
