May 5, 2023 - I'm 57 years old, playing businessman, in my office on the 72nd floor of One World Trade Center in NYC. I'm married, 1 kid, and living in NYC for 30+ years, and then, I hear this song, and my heart stops: my mind takes me back to John Marshall High School Oklahoma City, around '82/'83. Testerone running out of control, walking down the hallways falling in love every 5 seconds, going to dances, or driving in someone's car who just got their driver's license, and you feel INVINCIBLE. Man, this song takes me back. Makes me feel 17 again. God bless Tulsa's hometown Heroes. You gotta LOVE The Gap Band!

Is no one going to talk about the acronym GAP ? GREENWOOD ARCHER PINE ! BLACK WALSTREET... TULSA OKLAHOMA! How prophetic it is That the Wilson Brothers would name the Band in Homage to a Community that many of us knew nothing about when this music was being created in the early 80's Truly Outstanding!

nice words gorgeous...I just find it ironic that people wax supportive of others only when they already get their shit together themselves, yet criticize and dismiss them when they are at their lowest point, in the throes of addiction and possibly homeless, and no one wants anything to do with them. How convenient isn't it, everything that people say and do?

GAP BAND "You Dropped a Bomb On Me - Black Wall Street Founded in 1967 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and comprised of multi-instrumentalist brothers Ronnie, Charlie, and Robert Wilson, the Gap Band surfaced as one of the most popular funk/rhythm-and-blues (R&B) groups of the 1980s. The brothers grew up performing in their father's Pentecostal church in Tulsa. There their mother was the church's pianist, and the boys sang every Sunday before their father's sermon. Ronnie, the oldest, started a group when he was fourteen and eventually recruited his younger brothers to play in the band, which they named after streets in the heart of Tulsa's historic African American Black Wall Street business district, Greenwood, Archer, and Pine. The Gap Band recorded their first album, Magician's Holiday (1974), for Shelter Records, owned fellow by Tulsan Leon Russell. Their success really took flight in 1979 after they moved to Los Angeles. The group scored a Top Five R&B hit with "Shake" (1979), followed by other 1980 R&B Top Ten hits "Steppin' Out" and "I Don't Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Oops, Up Side Your Head)." The 1982 pop hit "You Dropped a Bomb On Me" exhibits their trademark, bass-heavy style and the silky, smooth vocals of Charlie Wilson. The band continued recording into the twenty-first century.

One of my all time favorite bands, right up there with Stevie Wonder and Sade. I think I know just about all the words to most of their hits. I saw them live in Los Angeles one time.

I was 7 years old when this song came out, my mama played it to death. It reminds me of Saturday mornings when we would all be up cleaning and mama would turn the stereo on, Daddy cleaning the downstairs, me and my cousin cleaning my room, and mama cleaning the rest. I miss those times in my life... RIP Mama
