My interest in the background of Hollywood was aroused in the late 60s, reading books, including one about the Garden of Allah. I didn't think anyone knew of it, or was interested in that historical place. Thanks for another great blog!

I just finished re-reading the Garden of Allah series (nine full length novels) by Martin Turnbull. It was well researched and I have been fascinated with the Gardens and Nazimova ever since. Thank you for this. And I highly recommend Turnbull's novels. He also wrote a novel about Nazimova called Salome. Another well-researched book.

Places such as the Garden of Allah tend to fade away when the inhabitants fade away. Places, and things happen in our lives without planning or reason, and when we try to re-create or relive them, it's never the same. Another interesting vlog Jordan. Thanks.

This is crazy that you did for your vlog today. I literally was looking this up yesterday because I live right around the corner in West Hollywood and it was killing me trying to figure out where exactly this use to be. I told my gf last week when we were walking by that was where I thought it was and she said Really? Then I looked it up yesterday and sure enough I was right! What's even more crazier a lot of people that have lived here longer then you have no clue about this place or a lot of places you cover in your daily vlogs. You have no idea Jordan how many times you have come up in conversations with me and my gf with her friends or people we know. We have been to numerous parties and events and my gf has mentioned you to producer friends and writers to you name it. And these people have looked you up too because they have been here forever and they don't know anything about a lot of the history of these places. also real quick, last week on your Valentino vlog at Rudolph's memorial, another deja vu for me. I literally found out days before that his brother Albertino use to live in a house across from where I live now (MIND BLOWN) and when I was watching his grand daughter talking about her grandpa Albertino at the memorial I was thinking about how she probably use to visit him and when she was a little girl across my street. Such a small world!

Thank you so much for this vlog. This episode was/is my favorite. It hits all my buttons for Hollywood history, historical figures and it answers a question that I have always briefly thought about, "where exactly is the location of, they paved paradise and put up a parking lot." I have come to expect it would be somewhere on Sunset but now I know for sure. Thank you for the glimpse of Hotel Marmont, the only thing in life I genuinely covet, a long weekend stay at that fabulously expensive hotel. Jordan,,,,,even if you need to use the public defender, please have a lawyer review your agreement. George Michael signed his first contract at age 18 and he rued that day until the end of his life. A good Manager would have no objection to having an agreement looked at by a third party. If the Manager does object,,,,,,treat that reaction as a caution flag. Thanks again, great vlog.

I knew a guy, long dead now who lived there in the late 1930s.- early 40s.. He lived there with Robert Benchley. He said there were parties galore. He said Earl Flynn brought an ballet company that performed at the pool and did a nude swan Lake... He said cocktail time started at 9 am with Benchley. His face would glow when he talked of his days there...Always repeating Benchley's line " My nerves are shattered" which meant I need another drink...Boy I wish I had seen it all. There much more he talked about and I have to try to remember...I'll share more as I recall.

After ages on Google Maps chasing Chase Bank branches I finally found it; 8154 Sunset Boulevard. As this isn't a private home it would really add to your work to give this kind of information when appropriate. Obviously this used to be a very nice residential area.

Yes, but your video is always your video and your take on the place! I've always wondered in what area this old landmark was and it would certainly to add to the appreciation of this site to know where it was geographically and try to imagine this in its historical context. I think most people wouldn't bother to do the research you did to make a video showing a parking lot! You have been visiting Pompeii, somehow I think many people have been there before you and that there are a few videos floating around but your take is your take.

Joni Mitchell's song, "Big Yellow Taxi" was not about the demise of the Garden of Allah, but her first experience visiting Hawaii in the early 70s: I wrote 'Big Yellow Taxi' on my first trip to Hawaii. I took a taxi to the hotel and when I woke up the next morning, I threw back the curtains and saw these beautiful green mountains in the distance. Then, I looked down and there was a parking lot as far as the eye could see, and it broke my heart... this blight on paradise. That's when I sat down and wrote the song.

Have you thought about doing a vlog on the old Recruit Training Command in San Diego, California? The reason why I ask is because I know that Abbott and Costello filmed there film In The Navy along with Shemp Howard and then Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis I believe filmed Sailor Beware there as well. I have not been back out to San Diego, California in like 27 1/2 years since I was discharged from the Navy. I did basic training in San Diego. At the time while going through basic there they were supposed to build a brand new church and galley. I somewhat figured that the Marines would acquire the side of the Navy's recruit training. I spoke through a Navy group on Facebook with a guy who was a Company Commander and knew one of my Company Commanders stationed in San Diego. About the only thing left from what I hear is a few old barracks and the USS Recruit which I made phone calls home underneath the hull of the USS Recruit. Basically what the USS Recruit was a battle ship for us to do training while in basic on.

I was hoping that you would make mention about the building to the left that you kept showing when you were panning back and forth. It looks like that building was either part of the original complex or was built in homage to the property, because it has the same arch doorways and windows. I'll just check it out myself when I come back to Hollywood in 2022. :) Great vlog, though!!!
