I think the thing about Garfield is that he is such a simplistic character that trying to make him bigger, or putting him in big situations, works against him. He was a 2d character in a simple, repetitive comic strip. I think the original specials and cartoon series worked because they still kept it fairly simple, almost mellow at times.

@@AnikMonetteIt reminds me of a concept I had a while back when I figured that Garfield multimedia would work best as a point and click adventure game where you could set up all sorts of comic-style chicanery and have the rest of Garfield's little universe be the butt for it. The framing device I came up with was that Jon was stuck in a traffic jam, and Garfield got hungry and expected lasagna when Jon got home. Now that Jon is possibly hours away and Garfield is still hungry, he decides to take matters into his own paws and ransack Muncie for ingredients and utensils. Each item on his "shopping list" is its own sketch.

However, they do stay true to their original creators' vision and artistic value so in the end a harmless movie is better than a more memorable bad movie at that. I just find it too bad that Lorenzo music died in 2001 as he was indeed the best Garfield and will never be replaced. Being a fan of Garfield I'm still going to check this out as it does seem funny to me and I am a big Garfield fan the issue I see here for me that bogs down this movie as well as the previous so called live action movies is the simplicity of putting an unnecessary throw in your face villain which I don't believe Garfield ever was about as his snarky attitude was always what sold him and what carried him through all these years. I think the reason why Chris Pratt was chosen as the voice of Garfield was not just for being a big time celebrity which can be selling reason but also because no joke he has done 10 straight consecutive years(2014-2024)of nothing but blockbuster succeses one after another after another and getting numerous accolades for all of them so I feel everybody involved in the making of the movie felt it was an ace in the hole and no brainer decision to have Chris Pratt play the lead role as that much success is really hard to ignore or turn down

With all due respect, personally, I loved The Garfield Movie. So did my sister. I think this is the movie that Garfield himself and his fan base deserved. The world has been waiting 35 years for Garfield to have his own animated full length movie, ever since Garfield's Judgement Day got cancelled. In other words: It's About Time! And I'm really happy with this movie. Sure it's nothing particularly over the top or groundbreaking, but the movie is true to what makes Garfield the cat, Garfield the cat. Besides, Garfield's own creator Jim Davis was the executive producer. It's funny, enjoyable and a bit heartwarming. I do sense that they played it safe with this movie by keeping the story and the animation a bit simple, but I think that actually helped the movie overall. It makes the movie that much more relatable to the comics and the original popular show of the 1980s. As for the voice acting, I thought everyone actually fit their respective roles including Chris Pratt. Lorenzo Music will always be the undisputed best voice of Garfield, but (unlike the 2000s Garfield show, which I simply got used to Garfield's husky voice) I actually feel like Chris Pratt is a worthy successor to voice Garfield. I honestly think he pretty much nailed it and actually sounds like Garfield. I'm also excited to see the sequel they promised at the end. Since this movie was a bit safe as there was no guarantee to how the public would respond, I can imagine (that after The Garfield Movie's clear box office success) that the sequel will be a bolder movie building on this film's establishment's success.
@alexismartinez83437 ай бұрын
❤️💖 Plus, this isn't the first time that Garfield try his attempt to make his own theatrical movie? No not the crappy live action films starring Bill Murray. No it was planned way back in the late 80s and early 90s. It was called Garfield's Judgement Day. It would bee made and released maybe around the late 80s and early 90s. Jim Davis wanted this special to be one of the best Garfield specials, involving much more serious themes than previous specials based on the brand, namely involving a tornado destroying his hometown. Interestingly, Disney was the studio working on it. The special went through scripting and was fully story-boarded. All of the voice acting, several songs, and an estimated 15 minutes worth of animation were completed before Disney cancelled the special, feeling the subject matter was far too dark and depressing for a Garfield cartoon. Davis tried to script the special two more times, but the studio showed no interest both times. The story was eventually incorporated into a Garfield picture book of the same name in July 1990. A documentary titled Happy Birthday Garfield that aired on CBS in 1988 featured a "sneak preview" of the special. Aside from this, no other footage of the film has been seen. I don't get why they cancelled it just because it was too dark for kids. Come on, kids and adults can handled dark themes in animated films and way back in the 1980s and 1990s animated films weren't afraid to be dark and mature and they can be good and be box office hits. To this day, I still wished we could have gotten that movie version of Garfield's Judgement Day. It makes me wished that this Garfield Movie could have recycled ♻️ elements from Judgement Day instead of playing it too safe. I personally hated when animated films being way too safe for kids. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the Garfield and I have yet to see it but still wished it could have been better. 🐱🐶🌪 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️

Some random trivia: there's a surprising amount of Eurovision artists in some of the European voice casts for this movie. Intars Busulis, who represented Latvia in 2009, stars in the Latvian dub, last year's runner-up Käärijä stars in the Finnish dub, and last but not least, this year's runner-up Baby Lasagna stars in the Croatian dub. That last one felt quite inevitable, me thinks.

I don’t Care what anyone says, I think The Garfield Movie (2024) is the Best Film of 2024!!! Still better than Chicken Little and the Live Action Garfield Movie (2004) Combined!!! 7:48 20 years later the CG Garfield (from the 2004 film) has aged like “Monday Milk”.

Saw this movie and I actually enjoyed it! While I can say that a portion of the jokes didn’t stick the landing, most of them were good. The story didn’t feel flat to me, it was consistent and didn’t drag. Plus the characters were very entertaining. So, I give the Garfield movie a solid 4.5 stars.

To me it's an okay movie. The animation looks great and I can see what they were going for with the whole father-and-son relationship between Garfield and Vic, but at the end of the day, this movie isn't anything special and Jinx is (in my opinion) a pretty forgettable villain. Overall, 6/10.

It’s good to know mark Dindal hasn’t recovered after the abysmal chicken little what did this one have studio interference too because this dude made Cats don’t dance And The emperors new groove It’s like chicken little left a real bad mark on his legacy

I still don't get why they didn't bring Frank Welker back?

Because according to Hollywood, Frank Welker isn't famous enough. Also, Mark Dindal (the director of the film) thought Chris Pratt fits Garfield.

As a fan of Garfield, I thought this was quite an enjoyable film. It still had plenty of references to the comics, some which I can't say because of story spoilers.

I think all the modern movies and shows and culture are playing safe and ruined all because of one thing. Children, children ruin everything, so much so that everything like celebrities memes out dated references representation and morals are forced and repeated because of them. And Garfield (2024) is a good example of that, instead of getting Frank Welker to reprise his role as the orange, the filmmakers decided that Chris Patt should that spot.

As a Garfield fan, I agree with it being very flawed, but I still enjoyed this movie for the most part. There could have been a bit more Jon, and Bill Murray did do a better job voicing Garfield, but the animation is very faithful looks like it was ripped straight from the comics, and there are some likable characters. Now time for my ratings: Story: 4/10 Animation: 8/10 Characters: 6/10 Rating: 6/10
