Explanation for the Cheaple models: The Cheaple models were used in Half-Life 2. They were only ever used in special scenes, specifically on cameras. For example, in dr. Kleiners lab at the beginning of the game, there is a big set of TVs that have a camera feed on them. In those camera feeds, there are citizens and cp's passing by. To save resources, the cheaple models are used instead of actual citizens. This applies to cp's as well. The only time the cheaple model is ever used is in dr kleiners lab and Black Mesa east.

@@ulthur5938 both cheaple cop and citizen are featured only in a cctv camera sequence in the kleiner's lab. the camera quality is all grainy so it hides their low-res look. male_cheaple is seen one more time in distant background at black mesa east. anyway, i believe there are lod models for cheaples too which means it's all optimized as extremely as possible.

I have an answer for 37:18 (Crow/Bird Pathways). I decompiled gm_construct to have a poke around with it, and found out that the air nodes are actually made for helicopters and striders, there are only around 12 ai nodes for birds in gm_construct, and they aren't set up correctly (that or GMod's hammer editor doesn't like the nodes). The birds fly to the nearest or most convenient ai node, and stay there. They dont move to the next one (possibly because there are barely any nodes in the air (most of them are on buildings)) and simply stay put. I hope that makes sense!

I actually managed to get the "Yes, I am the real Garry" achievement on a sandbox server I was a super admin on, I don't remember much though since I was eleven years old at the time however, I do distinctly remember begging him to add me as a friend since I was an annoying kid at the time that didn't know any better, still not exactly sure why the owner of that server decided to make an eleven year old such a high rank but I'm not complaining. The KZbinr that covered this the best is Librariar. These shadows don't spawn if you use vehicles or noclip. You have to generally walk and be patient.

I think that gets to everyone. I usually use the P2P server function so I can test shit on bots when building, and I can stomach most horror or even generally unnerving maps easily but that doesn't stop me from occasionally just getting a really bad uncanny feeling while playing. Whenever I get this I just leave and do something else, which I've yet to have cost me any time since if I'm working on something I'm almost definitely too distracted by it to really take in enough to feel uneasy.

dude! the weapon icons being a font has unlocked a 10+yr mystery for me. I am a graphic designer and I did a ton of work in GMod communities, working closely with developers. one in particular asked for my help with making icons and it was the biggest pain in the ass trying to get the icons to display properly. if you've ever seen webdings/wingdings fonts - they're images. this is because fonts are like vector images, they can be scaled infinitely. by making the icons into a font you can call them in whatever size you need, and probably them being a font makes them way easier to utilize. ah, if I could turn back time.

Cheaple is actually short for “cheap people” and what this means is that Half-Life 2 used these models in case it had to add NPCs far away from the players reach. From far away they look normal, but they are low rendered to save disk space. Hence the meaning of cheap

Toybox was actually super convenient. Allowing you to download and then use the addons in-game. With workshop, you can download in-game but you actually have to restart your map or sometimes the whole game in-order for the addon to load up. Got sad when Toybox was removed. :/
