I am building driveway entry gates. The frost line in this area is 5 feet (1.5 meters) deep and the soil is blue clay. This makes the construction of these two pillars more difficult. I am building them to last for many years. It is a lot of work for me to do all by myself so I have enlisted the advice and expertise of a professional brick layer, stone mason. I have know him for over thirty years. Weather does eventually stop the progress but I will be back at it in early spring. Thanks for watching.

Super job Randy! In the 80's I worked as an equipment operator on summer and always ended up welding and fabbing stuff up for the construction guys in my shop. You do great work. Welded steel in concrete is the bomb!!!! That gate will keep out the "Klingons" lol

G'day Randy. That's a big project you're working on there. All that snow must make it hard for you. I'm in Melbourne Australia, and it doesn't snow here. Cheers mate, Aaron.

Hi Aaron, yes I worked seven days a week until the weather got too bad. Cold is ok just way below freezing we had to stop. We will be back at it soon. I have to make the hinges and weld them on. Much more to come.

Been well. Just cutting firewood mostly in between some of the smaller snowstorms we have had. How has plowing been for you so far this season?

I thought my 18 inch frost line was bad, but you have to go 5 feet. Wow.

I went 6 to 6 1/2. We can get frost down to 7 feet here when we have a cold winter. I also put 1 1/2 inch styrofoam. Nice hearing from you Tom. My knee surgery went well. Now on the mend.😁🔩⚒🔧

I always like to overkill when weight is not an issue. But I’m sure however you end up doing it is going to be just fine.

Overkill is the way I prefer to do anything that is likely to break one day especially when it will be me doing the future repairs. Thanks Gary

We still have over two feet of snow. The plan is to start as soon as the snow is gone and I'm still recovering from knee replacement surgery. Probably three more weeks. It sure feels better. How are you recovering and the shop cleanup going? Thanks for stopping by Tom.

@@JourneymanRandy Well you certainly can't put the gate up in 2 feet of snow that is for sure. LOL! Glad your knee recovery is going well. I am doing pretty good too. right leg has a ways to go, but everything else has healed up for the most part. I have been doing some clean up. Trying to find a crew to repair my building. Everyone is slammed with work right now so getting a crew is tough.

We can't do the stone work until its warmer. My knee is the only thing stopping me from putting up the gates. Happy to hear you are healing well.
