What is life when a person choose a path that his conscience knew it was wrong n still did it. For Louis’ dad spoke on the phone, u already knew it was wrong n the fear clutched u. That’s why u keep saying no, no,no for it was exposed n there is consequences to face. I am not discriminating the LGBT but there is a right n wrong. As a trans woman that escaped Kazakhstan, which is far from Sharia Law but still Islamic. This brought me so much tears, terror, anxiety and traumatic memories of how my life would have turned out if I did not leave to the U.S. This is why it is so important to people from the West to watch these type of documentries whether you are straight or LGBT to see how people struggle and how ACTUALLY good they have it in their countries. People in the West and especially LBGT need to understand that they are NOT really oppressed. I understand, we still face some prejudice and discrimation in the West but not to this level. When Louie said that his father was ready to cut his throat, it triggered me so much. I remember me being 6, getting beaten and chased down by my father who beat me up with his belt for SIMPLY painting my nails and putting on my sister's dress to play. I was a KID that was just playing. If only I had any idea what actually was going ON. People treat LGBT as mentally ill or distrubed or even cursed. Ever since then, I was not as brave as Louie to be open or even date bc I was sooo scared my father would find out. So I had to supress my desires and hide to be able to plan my escape. Thankfully, I was a pro tennis player and had the privilege to travel to Israel and West Europe to play tennis tournaments. I remember my coach (Slovakian) telling me that I was different but I was confused on what. He just wanted me to see the world and that I have a chance to be a NORMAL human being here. To this day, I am so grateful to him that he opened my eyes. With that being sad, I am happy where I am at. I am a professional with a career, graduated college and living my FREELY. I do miss my family and my culture TO THIS DAY, but there is nothing I can do. It is hurtful that I am disowned and misunderstood for simple being DIFFERENT. Life moves on and I can make the best out of what IS given.

54. And Lot, when he said to his people, “Do you commit indecencies with your eyes wide open? 55. Do you lust after men instead of women? You're ignorant people.” 56. But the only response from his people was to say, “Expel Lot’s family from your city. They are purists.” 57. So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; We destined her with those who stayed behind. 58. And We bombarded them with rain. Terrible was the rain of the forewarned. 59. Say, “Praise be to Allah, and peace be upon His chosen servants. Is Allah better, or what they idolize?” 60. Who created the heavens and the earth, and Who sends for you the rain from the sky? With it, We produce gardens full of beauty, whose trees you couldn’t have produced. Is there a god alongside Allah? They're people who equate. 61. Who made the earth a habitat, made rivers flow through it, placed mountains on it, and set a partition between the two seas? Is there a god alongside Allah? But most of them don’t know. 62. Who responds to the afflicted when he prays to Him, eliminates adversity, and makes you successors on earth? Is there a god alongside Allah? How little you think. 63. Who guides you in the darkness of land and sea, and who sends winds announcing His mercy? Is there a god alongside Allah? Exalted is Allah, beyond the partners they associate. 64. Who starts creation, then repeats it, and gives you livelihood from the sky and the earth? Is there a god alongside Allah? Say, “Bring your evidence, if you speak the truth.” 65. Say, “No one in the heavens or on earth knows the invisible except Allah, and they don’t realize when they’ll be resurrected.” 66. In fact, their knowledge of the Afterlife is confused. In fact, they doubt it. In fact, they're blind to it. 67. The unbelievers say, “When we and our ancestors turn to dust, will we be brought out? 68. That was promised to us and our ancestors before. These are just legends of antiquity.” 69. Say, “Travel on earth, and see the plight of the sinners.” 70. Don’t grieve over them, nor be distressed by what they plot. 71. They say, “When will this promise come true - if you speak the truth?” 72. Say, “It may be that what you're eager for is close behind you.” 73. Your Lord is gracious to people, but most of them are ungrateful. 74. Your Lord knows what their hearts hide and reveal. 75. There is nothing hidden in heaven and on earth - but it’s in a clear document. 76. This Quran explains to the Israelites most of their disagreements. 77. It's guidance and mercy for believers. 78. Your Lord will judge wisely between them. He's the Almighty, the All-Knowing. 79. So rely on Allah. You're upon the clear truth. 80. You can’t make the dead hear. And you can’t make the deaf hear the call - if they turn around and flee. 81. And you can’t lead the blind out of their error. You can make hear only those who believe in Our revelations and are submitters. 82. When the Word falls on them, We'll bring a creature from the earth, telling them that people weren’t sure of Our revelations. 83. On the Day when We gather from every community an army of those who denied Our signs. They will march in rows. 84. Until, when they arrive, He will say, “Did you deny My verses without understanding them? Or what were you doing?” 85. And the decree will be issued against them because of their misdeeds, and they won't speak. 86. Don’t they consider that We made the night for their rest and the day for visibility? There are signs here for believers. 87. The day the Trumpet is blown, everyone in the heavens and on earth will be terrified, except those whom Allah wills. Every one of them will come humbly before Him. 88. You see the mountains, and you imagine them to be fixed. But they pass as the clouds pass. The making of Allah, Who perfected everything. He knows what you do. 89. Whoever comes with good deeds gets even better. They’ll be safe from the horrors of that Day. 90. But whoever comes with evil deeds - their faces will be tumbled into the Fire. Weren’t you repaid for what you did? 91. “I was commanded to worship the Lord of this city, He Who made it holy. All things belong to Him. And I was commanded to be submissive. 92. And to recite the Quran.” Whoever is guided - is guided to his benefit. And whoever goes astray, then say, “I am just a warner.” 93. And say, “Praise be to Allah. He will show you His signs, and you’ll recognize them. Your Lord isn’t unaware of what you do.”

Thankfully, in the western world they don't have that impact on everyday life anymore. And btw, it's not an "ideology", it's a common feature of about 5% of mankind. It will never disappear. And I do wish they would grant asylum to certain "Palestinians", special cases where they can be more sure of a persons character and motivations, like Louie for instance. But there's no comparison between it and "Palestine". And people wonder why this war is going on now and why Israel is making it their goal to destroy Hamas. For the life of me I don't understand people who want the Palestinian's to be free, yet support Hamas. Or even the PA for that matter. They will be killed if they are openly gay in Gaza or many places in the West Banks. There is absolutely no comparison between how Israel and Islamic controlled nations treat their gay citizens. BTW there are thousands of Israeli Arabs who are openly gay, both Christian and from islamic backgrounds. The issue is their citizen status as Palestinians, and i agree with you, they should be able to live in Israel as refugees.

@@eddihaskell I know it is very different to be gay in Israel with respect to Palestine. But if you read what I wrote, I am referring to the men in the video, not to gays in general. This is what happens when you let Religion rule over common sense and conscience. People who grow up under these cultures have learned to simply accept what is fed to them without taking the time to question these obviously wrong ideals. That is why these people will never prosper or ever progress into fully democratic and free society. These people are too lazy intellectually to truly question the logic behind the religion they have been taught to follow blindly. This intellectual laziness becomes apathy especially when they grow up not gay. Why? Because it doesn’t affect them directly. In their selfish minds, they make a selfish decision or resolve that goes like this: “what’s the point in being empathetic and truly try to imagine myself being in the shoes of a gay person so I can see how it’s unfair that people care so much who sleep with when it doesn’t affect these homophobes themselves? It’s too much work to challenge the logic behind these archaic beliefs and practices. No, lm just going to accept that gay men are sinners ( even though As a man I also masturbate to girls and porn and even though this is also just as sinful according to Islam, it seems to be permitted)” The sense of justice unless it’s affects them just simply escape these people and it goes above their heads.

54. And Lot, when he said to his people, “Do you commit lewdness with open eyes? 55. Do you lust after men instead of women? You are truly ignorant people.” 56. But the only response of his people was to say, “Expel the family of Lot from your town. They are purist people.” 57. So We saved him and his family, except for his wife, whom We destined to be among the laggards. 58. And We rained upon them a rain. Miserable was the rain of those forewarned. 59. Say, “Praise Allah, and peace be upon His servants whom He has selected. Is Allah better, or what they associate?” 60. Or, who created the heavens and the earth, and rains down water from the sky for you? With it We produce gardens full of beauty, whose trees you could not have produced. Is there another god with Allah? But they are a people who equate. 61. Or, who made the earth habitable, and made rivers flow through it, and set mountains on it, and placed a partition between the two seas? Is there another god with Allah? But most of them do not know. 62. Or, who answers the one in need when he prays to Him, and relieves adversity, and makes you successors on earth? Is there another god with Allah? How hardly you pay attention. 63. Or, who guides you through the darkness of land and sea, and who sends the winds as heralds of His mercy? Is there another god with Allah? Most exalted is Allah, above what they associate. 64. Or, who originates the creation and then repeats it, and who gives you livelihood from the sky and the earth? Is there another god with Allah? Say, “Produce your evidence, if you are truthful.” 65. Say, “No one in the heavens or on earth knows the future except Allah; and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.” 66. In fact, their knowledge of the Hereafter is confused. In fact, they are in doubt about it. In fact, they are blind to it. 67. Those who disbelieve say, “When we have become dust, and our ancestors, shall we be brought out? 68. We were promised that before, we and our ancestors-these are nothing but legends of the ancients.” 69. Say, travel through the earth, and observe the fate of the guilty.” 70. But do not grieve over them, and do not be troubled by what they plot. 71. And they say, “When is this promise, if you are truthful?” 72. Say, “Perhaps some of what you are impatient for has drawn near.” 73. Your Lord is gracious towards humanity, but most of them are not thankful. 74. And your Lord knows what their hearts conceal, and what they reveal. 75. There is no mystery in the heaven and the earth, but it is in a Clear Book. 76. This Quran relates to the Children of Israel most of what they differ about. 77. And it is guidance and mercy for the believers. 78. Your Lord will judge between them by His wisdom. He is the Almighty, the All-Knowing. 79. So rely on Allah. You are upon the clear truth. 80. You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call if they turn their backs and flee. 81. Nor can you guide the blind out of their straying. You can make no one listen, except those who believe in Our verses; for they are Muslims. 82. And when the Word has fallen on them, We will bring out for them from the earth a creature which will say to them that the people are uncertain of Our revelations. 83. On the Day when We gather from every community a group of those who rejected Our revelations; and they will be restrained. 84. Until, when they arrive, He will say, “Did you reject My revelations without comprehending them? Or what is it you were doing?” 85. The Word will come down upon them for their wrongdoing, and they will not speak. 86. Do they not see that We made the night for them to rest therein, and the day for visibility? Surely in that are signs for people who believe. 87. On the Day when the Trumpet is blown, everyone in the heavens and the earth will be horrified, except whomever Allah wills; and everyone will come before Him in humility. 88. And you see the mountains, and imagine them fixed, yet they pass, as the passing of the clouds-the making of Allah, who has perfected everything. He is fully Informed of what you do. 89. Whoever brings a virtue will receive better than it-and they will be safe from the horrors of that Day. 90. But whoever brings evil-their faces will be tumbled into the Fire. Will you be rewarded except for what you used to do? 91. “I was commanded to worship the Lord of this town, who has sanctified it, and to Whom everything belongs; and I was commanded to be of those who submit. 92. And to recite the Quran.” Whoever is guided-is guided to his own advantage. And whoever goes astray, then say, “I am one of the warners.” 93. And say, “Praise belongs to Allah; He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. Your Lord is not heedless of what you do.”

I'm sad that they're forced to leave their lives behind and start a new one in a completely different environment, but I'm also happy that in their new home they can be free. This documentary truly opened my eyes on how privileged I am and how queer people have it so hard in these very religious countries. I wish these three wonderful men all the best on their new journey and to never stop believing in themselves and in the bravery they have. Peace.

It's also hard for people who aren't religious at all as religion permeates the culture everywhere. I'm not an athetist, but not believing in the faith is considered bad enough. A lot of the US was not so different some decades ago, but it has changed. Hopefully, it'll change everywhere.

Israel should let in as many Gay Palestinians as possible. I heard there were already thousands of gay Palestinians from the territories living in Tel Aviv. It’s obviously easy to sneak back in to Israel, but they also need to stop sending these people back. As a gay Jew who visited Tel Aviv, I thought it was a magical place. It’s like a weird kind of west meets east. I don’t like conflict, but I’d rather live in a place where I can at least legally live together with my partner.

You are completely ignorant of what it means to be gay in the UK. You think LGBT people in Muslim/Jewish/Catholic/Hindu families living in the UK aren't persecuted by their own families? You think honour killings don't happen in the UK? (they do), that LGBT people are routinely driven out by their families? LGBT people in the UK face violence from their families, violence for being themselves on the street. Seriously, you know absolutely nothing. There are communities where it is impossible to be openly LGBT, I grew up in one. It makes me so angry that you think that having marriage equality means that LGBT people don't face daily abuse in the UK. The Home Office stated that since 2016, the number of homophobic assaults have risen dramatically. There's the young man who had his head smashed in a year ago, the young lesbian couple punched in the face on the bus. How are you so ignorant of these news stories? Either you have zero LGBT friends, or you know a couple who have miraculously escaped such issues. Please, for the sake of all LGBT people, stop making false claims about the so-called paradise we live in.

It will never happen. Thanks to Enlightenment, religion hasn't the impact on everyday life it once had, at least in the western sphere. But in Islamic countries, prospects are dire. Some may have advanced economically, but their mindset is still stuck in the middle ages. I think it was an anthropologist who once wrote that in most societies the acceptance of gays was always directly linked to the social rank of women. The better their standing in society, the more tolerant the attitude towards gays. Now look at the deplorable situation of women in so many Islamic states....

This documentary was beautifully created. Bravo to the gentlemen that had the bravery and courage to so elegantly share their stories with us. Though my heart broke a bit more and more as I watched, especially through Louie's story, it is important that awareness is brought about the treatment of the LGBT community in this region. Louie's story touched me tremendously as you can see the pain in his eyes throughout the documentary when he speaks about his story and his desire to not ever leave his homeland of Palestine. It is similar to that of a double edged sword - leaving for your ability to live in safety vs a forced departure by the occupying forces. I pray that wherever Louis, Abdu and Fares are that they are living peacefully. Sending so much love.
