I wish I had those back in the day. I used a story board and snap line. It was very time consuming.

They are ok but some design flaws. Would be nice if you moved lever down for tightning so gravity would help keep tension on. With the current setup, moving lever up, you almost have to overtighten to get lever to stay and by doing that the gauge moves away from the siding creating a bit of a gap.

Is he using a framing nailer to nail siding?

These won't work with 12 inch siding unless you wanted an 8 inch or less reveal?

Off hand I recall it having a maxium 8" reveal...so no go on 12"

Yes, it's called blind nailing. Some people in high-wind areas will face-nail which results in a fastener at the top and the bottom of each row.
