This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things kzbin.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

I am always very impressed with your attention to detail and craftsmanship. But I have to say the 3/16'' gaps are terrible. I know that is LP's specs but I would not put it on anything that I build. I have done a tour at their plant in North Carolina and was not sold on using it. I think their siding looks way better than Hardie for sure, but that's it. They should of had a better quality of flashing for you to use. That thin gauge galvanize is at the bottom of the flashing category. IMO Stainless, aluminum, painted metal or copper is the only way to go. We always shorten the reveal on the first piece of lap siding by 3/8'' this makes up for the lack of the shadow line on the first piece. You really notice it on 6'' or greater reveals. FINISH NAILS on the trim !!!!! Build us some more post frames you do an awesome job on them.
@lubetester4 жыл бұрын
I have seen in person what happens if you DONT gap smart side. Walls with direct sun will be fucked if you dont. The planks will expand and the joints buckle if no gap is left.

Birds can be a problem in Texas. Some well lit places can become like an Alfred Hitchcock movie set at night. To combat it, some people use propane cannons to drive those large flocks away. Texas has loads of grackles, crows, ravens, buzzards, swifts and hundreds of other birds from all over all getting preped for Spring. So, anywhere there are masses of prey, so are predators and varmints. One of many issues of a mild climate.

I don't understand how a gap between two pieces of siding will acclimate and close up if there is a nail at the end of each board which, I believe, would keep the two boards from stretching to fill in that gap. Please explain.
@douglaspollock1024 жыл бұрын
Rob J most of the movement will be within the frame structure of the building itself, especially if it’s stick frame. The CSB siding doesn’t expand and contract as much as the wood frame. So, when I read your comment, “ ...keep the two boards from stretching to fill in that gap.” I believe you are making a logical comment but may have not considered the movement of the underlying structure.

I kid you not you are the first person I've seen on KZbin that can actually caulk. Can't say I'd use the product over Hardie though. I built a dog house out of smart wood corners and hardie siding and purposely ran the material into the ground 8 years ago. Smart wood layers are separating and paint is flaking...Hardie looks brand new. 20 years down the line when your paint is flaking because of expansion and contraction you will be kicking yourself.

What is the purpose of the freeze board at the bottom of the wall beneath the z flash? Also I can't believe you talk up the cut hub which is cool but you can cut without it then you show that gecko siding clamp for one second and dont even mention it! Try hanging 16' siding by yourself without it! ...aaaaaand another edit. Ok, hardie is brittle and it actually helps to buy it fresh (seriously) but once it is up it's good and that LP has years of southern use before I would recommend it for longevity in a humid climate against rot. We'll see as only time will tell.
