Interesting video, like! The GF 4 TI was practically a higher clocked GF 3. The GF 4 TI4200 was very nice because it could be overclocked by some 20-25%.

This was my daily driver for a few years, paired with an Athlon XP2400+ and Windows 2000 Pro. Was a surprisingly powerful and adaptable system with its OC potential. Didn't need an upgrade until the 8800GTS.I also dual or triple booted that system with about 3 dozen different Linux distros and the Nvidia driver support made a HUGE difference in most distros.

Additional vertex shader made a bigger difference sometimes. For example the "nature" test in 3Dmark2001 ran twice as fast on the GF4 ti4200 compared to the GF3ti200.

This was the card I played Doom 3, Half-Life 2 and the original Prey with, on my old P4 build from 2003. I was running a 15'' Sony Trinitron at 800x600 for Windows, and usually 640x480 for games. I had to use dxdiag to set the refresh rate for games to 85 Hz because I could feel the 60 Hz flicker on my eyes and it was unpleasant. LCD/TFT displays fixed that 60 Hz discomfort for me, later on.

Good Times, had a gf 4ti 4200 on a Asus a7n8x deluxe with a athlon 3200+ or something like that, if i remember right. Felt like a beast of a pc back then.

I upgraded from a Geforce 2 MX200 to one of these way back when and it felt invincible, my Athlon 1100 and budget motherboard were definitely the bottleneck in that system. Sadly the case I was running it in had such bad air circulation the VRMs overheated and died an early death literally the day the first parts of my next upgrade arrived. I ended up buying an FX5700 last-minute to go with the P4 3.0GHz I'd bought, and looking at this it wasn't much of an upgrade! (Although I think some of that is games would enable DirectX 9 features which the FX5700 didn't have the power to pull off, whereas the older cards would make the games stick with 8.1 and run a lot faster even if the effects didn't look quite as good)

I had this card with an athlon 1800+ I think. Morrowind looked amazing!

You really need to oc that pentium 4. Got the p4 650 as well on lga 775 asus p5p800. At stock it gave me some minor lag in windows. Oc to 4.3 ghz its lovely for tripple boot with win 98 se, xp and 10. Its giving me 21266 in 3dmark 2001 se with a quadro fx 3000G (geforce fx 5900 ultra) oc to fx 5950 ultra speeds and 512mb of ddr1 ram and 2-2-2-2-5 timing at 404 mhz. For fable to run nicely you will need to disable shadows.

Good video. The problem with this card is inconsistent frame rates. In a 2 second time span, it will go from 70fps to 30 fps. Constant up and downs. A constant 45fps would be much more playable.

What you think the inconsistent must be related to?

In 2004 It was a low-end obsolete card, why call it mid-range? At that time a 2-3 year old card was basically ancient tech. Even your own benchmark show it canbarely handle 640x480 or 800x600 on low. Pro Tip: We were tasgeting 800x600 in 1999.
