I have almost the exact same build down to the mobo sitting in an old Silverstone FT02. It had a 770 GTX 2GB, it was pretty good back in 2013!

Fermi2 is such a well supported architecture. Those final drives are so good it still works nice today.
@xhgcommentaryarchive2 жыл бұрын
Yes! It's such a massive improvement over the original Fermi architecture, outputting well-supported cards with a significantly higher rate of reliability.

Good video. The gtx 580 was the card that I had the worst luck with, I had 3 that died on me, including the only fire pc I've ever had. The gtx 580 overloaded the psu and the sheath material on the psu cables caught fire. After that I never went cheap on a psu again.

That's a shame, I heard these cards were pretty unreliable but I didn't know it was that bad. At this point I regularly hear stories of people's dead GTX 580s, I'm gonna be extra careful with mine! Not surprised it blew up that PSU, these things are quite power hungry. If you don't pair them with a good enough PSU they will almost certainly go kaput 😅

GTX580 was a nice card simply because it lived for so long. Even three years after launch, it could still game at 1080p with medium/high settings. But the best part was, a Recycle IT place near Manchester was selling refurbed 1.5GB GTX580's at £115 eventually being reduced to just £80, and they came with 2 year warranty and were never out of stock, for YEARS. I bought so many for builds. Had one in my own rig, only replaced when I was gifted a repaired HD5970 from a computer shop I was helping out.

Honestly I think a lot of the Fermi cards didn't deserve the bad reputation they got. Sure, they ran hot but they offered very good performance and longevity due to Fermi's versatility. The mid-range offerings were also pretty great, I had a friend who ran an overclocked GTX 460 for some time and it was surprising what the card could do.
@TheVanillatech Жыл бұрын
@@SPNG Yeah the GTX260 and GTX460 were both solid performers. ATI probably lost out there. The HD5870 was soooo good though, and the GTX480 so damn hot and hungry, the damage was already done. Some well deserved love, in terms of sales, for Team Red ensued.

My secondary PC is an FX8370/ *GTX 580 3GB* (Palit) /16GB RAM/windows10 and few months ago I installed and Played Minecraft (windows edition) in this PC. Since you tested Minecraft I have to ask you : Did you benchmarked Minecraft for long-time 🤔? Initially i was using very high game-details(windows edition as said) while I was playing ,and after 30-40 minutes my PC shut-down. This was repeatable so I played Minecraft in windowed-mode and opened windows task-manager to check hardware utilization : My GTX580 3GB was hitting 100% while on those game-settings and my CPU was also stressed ,though not always 100% like the GPU. I lowered some game-settings to lower utilization ( I think GPU dropped to around 70% utilization) and the PC-shutdown stopped. Do you have any idea what was triggering the shutdown ? Was the fact that GPU was operating 100% for long time(can this trigger a PC-shutdown?🤔 ) , was it because the CPU(CPU cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 CO ) was also stressed ,though not as high as the GPU ,or was it the PSU( EVGA G3 850watt) which triggered some sort of OTP(over temperature protection) due to PCs overall heat-output (tower: Corsair Carbide series spec-03 mid-tower) ? I’m sort of lost of what exactly was triggering the PC-shutdown… --P.S. Great video by the way ... Fermi-lineup is my most nostalgic architecture(it was combined with a very good perion of my life ,so my nostalgia for Fermi is sky-high )

I had an EVGA GTX 580 Classified Ultra 3GB on the bench a while back, delidded the GPU and put it on water and got the core clock up to a scorching 1067MHz and the memory up to 1200MHz. It was able to play most new-ish DX11 games at 1080p on mixed low/medium and 900p on mixed medium/high settings at a solid 60FPS. Needed to push 1.3v through the core to get it stable at those clocks though, but ended up being able to pull a Fire Strike graphics score of 6361 sucking down 362W of power. If you push it hard, Fermi2 can still punch well above its weight.

The 3GB models outlasted Kepler. They were just too rare and expensive for normal people.
@TheVanillatech Жыл бұрын
Yeah they were late to the market even for a very late showing of the Fermi flagship. Certainly had legs for many years though. A recycle place near Manchester had an almost infinite stock to refurbished EVGA GTX580s, both the 1.5GB and 3GB variants, priced at £115 and £80 respectively. They came in a brown box, looked identical to new and had 2 year warranty. I bought dozens over the years for builds. Such a long lasting card! And when the first crypto boom hit, I checked their eBay store and they still had them in stock, for £70 including postage! I'm sure there must have been an EVGA outlet somewhere near Manchester / Warrington or something...

@TheVanillatech Жыл бұрын
@@Bassjunkie_1 Whats the hassle? Just take it apart (3 minutes), tin foil the connectors (30 seconds), bang it in the oven for whatever time and temp it needs (a minute or so) and then put it back together! Less than 15 minute job, for a possible save. The number of cards I've brought back, from HD5970s to GTX980Ti's, for just a little baking time, is easily worth it! Only works some of the time but if the cards for the bin, give it a shot.

I had to retype this 80 times so not to come across as a nob head....... I've done it in the past and yea it fixed an old gpu. did it fix it long term? f knows as i never used it much after that. I just don't feel its worth the risk for a blue screen issue. as tbh it not booting in my pc to start doesn't mean it needs a reball just meant it didn't boot in my pc. Sounds like you've had luck doing it but i will leave it and just use something else.. I have so much hardware its stupid. Each to their own in the end my nerd friends ✌
