Hope you enjoyed this one! This was a lot of fun to make and in terms of structure if it's a video essay it will be done in this fashion, discussions will be more unscripted. That way you all have a good blend of my personality through every video! Also the FPS is varying in the footage because there's both Switch footage and PC footage used here!

Brilliant video! Wish I'd looked this up before being 80 hours into the game 😂 though I still have plenty to complete!

Given that there was a recommended level to each character’s story chapters, I did switch around all my travelers, planning ahead for when I would be doing another chapter and using the corresponding traveler. I did have favorites, though, among which were scholar/cleric Cyrus and thief/dancer Therion. Apothecary/merchant Alfyn also worked wonders in terms of survivability. I still never managed to beat the boss rush. There was something I was doing wrong, like maybe I hadn’t optimized their builds. Some of the final bosses of the routes were hella hard, Primrose’s and Ophilia’s for example took me multiple tries, they always managed to defeat me in a couple of turns. During the boss rush the same thing happened, and I figured I must have just not made use of all the things the combat system has to offer. I gave up and decided I would one day replay the game and then try to go for optimized, so I can finally see the true ending.

When it comes to ophelias final boss, there is an easy ways to cheese it. Sealtige seduction on your cleric + reflective veil is broken and makes quite a few bosses childsplay.

My first go at it was pretty tough too … But like he said in the video , it helps a BUNCH to have the 4 legendary job classes . Just having ONE of those jobs on your team makes all of those bosses extremely easy . Warmasters are ridiculous damage dealers , runeknight in Tressa is actually cheap (casting sidestep on the entire team) , and the starseeker is great for heals .

Just started playing this recently after wanting it for years. Thought it was a little hard until I discovered, by accident, how to get the 2nd jobs. 2nd chapter boss beat me so I was grinding and hunting for creatures that could hit the boss weakness and found a shrine on my own. Then the game clicked for me and ive been steam rolling ever since. The synergy of the job system is so fun.

So glad you're enjoying it now, after I got those 2nd jobs I couldn't put the game down. It's definitely a hidden gem!

I beat this game and personally think about dropping a vid on it, this and xenoblade got me into jrpgs, I love complex combat systems as long as the game lays them out simple like octopath!

I've never play Octopath Traveler but I've heard people say it's really good, I'm not necessarily a fan of the job systems mechanic because the only game I've play with it is FFV and to me it feels very slow to grind out those abilities, maybe things have changed since then. One thing that has me pretty excited though is SquareEnix announced a few months ago that they'd be remaking Dragon Quest 3 in the style of Octopath Traveler and since they're doing that it kinda makes me think if they decide to use that engine to remake games like FFV & FFVI, Chrono Trigger and other games from that era, it would be a different yet interesting approach to bring back those older games for new players.

Thankfully you dont have to level up the jobs individually, only getting the skills for them which is extremely streamlined so you'll never have to actually grind for them.
