Rick still traumatizes and hurts Morty all the time, even when he does have his moments. I think that’s what Morty was trying to prevent for Summer. Also this is just personally my opinion so don’t kill me lol, but I don’t think Rick truly loves the current Smith family. I honestly think that he turned himself in just to destroy the citadel and to get rid of Jerry. This is canonically (from what we know) the third universe he’s camped on since abandoning the cronenburg universe and the squirrel universe, and that’s just a known fact I’ll never forget. The only person he ever brings along when he goes universe hopping is Morty. Nobody can replace his original Beth, he hates Jerry, and he’s not as close with Summer as he is with Morty. The only characters I see that he currently truly cares about is bird person and Morty. He does things for them that no other Rick would do. Just my opinion though. I know Rick still has his soft moments with the Smith family.

What I like about Summer is that she develops and becomes a total badass who can work well under stress and danger, but still acts like a normal teenager and stays true to herself. Prediction for season six, I think: Summer decides that she wants to become a space explorer like Rick. Fight some aliens, topple empires, get some bitches, all that shit. Obviously, her parents would disapprove of this, especially Beth, considering that she is becoming more like Rick. Or worse, more worse than Rick. She then decides to hang out with Space Beth and become her sidekick, like Morty is to Rick. But soon enough, she'll soon realize that maybe she didn't need to be like her grandpa, or become him.

Summer seems to be the only person Rick relies on when things get out of hand. Like when Rick and Morty erased their memories and Summer was tasked with the responsibility of getting them back some of their memories. Also when Rick is trying to entertain Mr. Nimbus while Summer steals his magical conch. She stole it but Rick never told her to destroy it so it goes to hell when she blows it and makes Mr. Nimbus more powerful. Throughout the show she's earned more respect from Rick than anyone else in the family.
