Vietnam is one of the countries famous for weaving and silk production since ancient times. I just found out they add coconut fiber and lotus silk.

I did something similar, smaller scale. Took an big ole braided rug that was splitting apart. Totally separated, washed then separated the ropes. Did a classic simple woven pattern. Worked great. Ended up with a smaller thicker rectangle instead of a big oval... best part, no sewing

It was not always basic, someone had to think of it, envision it, invent tools to make it happen, look at the coconut or silk worms and just imagine how it might work, ….way before our time, when nothing was basic and it Everything but dirt had to be imagined to accomplish.. ….You probably figure fire just came from nowhere, because you are so used to seeing it… but nothing is basic until someone somewhere thinks of it first and then follows through. Take nothing for granted, someone or something suffered and or grew to knowledge for your modern day convenience.

The coconut mats are interesting. I don't know how they are used. It is sad that the silk worms must be ill treated then brutally killed to make silk fabric. All of these products are quite labour intensive.
